VW Logs 13,000 Orders For New Polo Ahead Of Launch
The new Volkswagen Polo is all-new for 2010, and early returns show plenty of interest in the little European hatchback. VW is reporting 13,000 pre-orders for the B-segment five-door; news that is sure to have executives at the German automaker doing their best Mazda3 impression. The Polo has been in production since March, but it won't officially hit showroom floors until June. 3,400 USD) in favor of a new model. The legislation has prompted German car buyers to pick up new cars at a brisk pace. In Europe, the compact Polo will receive powertrains that can produce between 59 and 103 hp, with a BlueMotion diesel that's capable of 61.9 mpg (US). The U.S. is reportedly likely to receive two versions of the Polo within the next two years. If the models come through, both models will likely receive the automaker's new 1.2-liter TSI gas engine. Direct injection and turbocharging help the little four-banger reach 103 hp and 42.8 mpg (U.S.) combined.
The 2020 Subaru Outback. Publisher's note: Normally, the cars you read about here at TireKicker are loaned to us by the press fleets of the various manufacturers for several days. Seven is typical. Occasionally, we'll get a longer period of time, and sometimes it'll only be three or four days. Our "30 Minutes With" series features cars we spent half an hour driving during the just-concluded Western Automotive Journalists Media Day in Monterey, California. Needless to say, these are quick drives and brief impressions that we hope to be able to flesh out with a full review of the vehicle at some point in the near future. Media Days is a driving program, with journalists taking cars from the staging area at Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley over Laureles Grade and back or off-road on the acclaimed Land Rover Experience on the grounds of Quail Lodge. My ninth drive of the day was the 2020 Subaru Outback on the off-road course.
Treat it kind and it will treat you kind. If it was "built to last" why is there a need to "treat it kind"? And no. I would buy a Land Rover over a Rover. Hell, I would buy a Great Wall or a Mahindra over a Rover. If my only choice was a Rover or some old worn out 2nd hand runners, I would take the runners. I've owned Jaguars where once again the majority of "average" people would feel too scared to own. I worked for a Jaguar dealership. There is a reason why people are "scared" to own Jaguar cars, especially "out of warranty" Jags. Take the plunge into the prestige market. You deserve it. You will feel great. Well, right up until it all starts to go pear shaped and the warranty ends. No they aren't. My 2019 Corolla probably has the same amount of tech in it as an average comparable Euro car.
Evoque and Freelander 2 (LR2) to be built at new Chinese plant. Jaguar Land Rover plans to build the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Freelander SUVs in the company's new China plant, a source said. JLR said last week that the company will start production at the factory with joint venture partner Chery Automobile late this year. The company has not said which models it will build in the plant in the eastern city of Changshu. However, a source familiar with the company's plans told Automotive News Europe that JLR plans to produce the Evoque and Freelander at the factory. Local production will help JLR boost sales in China's booming SUV market. SUV sales in the country rose 41 percent to 319,200 in May, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. JLR's China sales increased by 53 percent to 10,880 vehicles in in May, according to company data. The factory will have an initial annual capacity of 130,000 units. JLR also plans to open an engine plant next to the vehicle factory to build the company's new range of four-cylinder engines. The vehicle plant also will build cars for a Chery/JLR joint brand, a company spokesperson said. No date was given for production of the cars, which are expected to be based on existing JLR products.
