Timing Chain Problems 2019-newer Jaguar Land Rover AJ V8 Engines

Timing Chain Problems 2019-newer Jaguar Land Rover AJ V8 Engines

It proved to be an excellent design and was one factor in the huge success of newer models like the Range Rover Sport. The engines earned a reputation for trouble-free performance through 2009. For 2010 the engine was redesigned with more displacement, Bosch direct injection, a new cam system, and other changes that boosted power significantly. Problems began appearing a few years later. All Land Rover V8 engines made after 2010 are potentially problematic. We鈥檝e seen a number of service bulletins addressing various aspects of this problem, but it鈥檚 not clear any of the bulletins heralds a definitive fix. At the least, I would say 2010-2016 motors are all at risk. The engines in question have three crankshaft driven chains. The innermost chain drives the high pressure injection pumps and oil pump. The middle chain drives the right side cams, as you face the engine (driver side in America). The outer chain drives the left cams.

Mars is the most explored planet in our Solar System for obvious reasons. The early space probes sent by the Soviet Union, now Russia, through the Mars and Zond Programs in 1960s to the late 1970s and by the United States in mid1970s were generally camera equipped only. They were sent just to take pictures of the Martian surface as flybys. In other words, these probes were send to Mars to take a few photos as they flew by Mars and kept going further into the Solar System until somewhere along the way they met their demise. Their mission were to photograph potential landing sites for future landers. The addition of the thrusters on the spacecraft gave scientists the flexibility of placing these probes at various latitudes, specifically over the polar and equatorial region of the planet. Furthermore, the lander made it possible to place a probe on the surface but unfortunately many of the initial attempts ended in failure.

Land Rover stacked its deck with 275/55R20 Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires. The 32-inch-tall tires have larger sidewalls than the stock tires and have exponentially more grip in loose terrain thanks to deeper treads with larger voids. Attendees at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show will notice a set of concept Goodyear Wranglers mounted on the Discovery SVX concept. These tires feature an X-pattern with one X colored in Rush Orange. Don鈥檛 count on seeing these making production, though. Both versions of the Goodyear tires are mounted on 20-inch forged aluminum alloy wheels. Of course, that prominent Rush Orange color is seen here, too, accenting the inner edges of the wheel spokes. As for the body, the SVO team concocted a new paint color they call Tectonic Grey. Nearly transparent X-patterns along the doors give the Disco SVX Concept an interesting visual depth. Narvik Black - an almost piano black - is used on the side vents and front grille.

Timing Chain Problems 2019-newer Jaguar Land Rover AJ V8 Engines

Timing Chain Problems 2019-newer Jaguar Land Rover AJ V8 Engines

The angle on the chain face seems to be less, and if tension relaxes even a bit, it may slip more easily. Looking at photos of chains we鈥檝e removed we see evidence of that wear. When the chains stretch you will get cam timing errors that won鈥檛 stay clear. These happen because the chain has stretched from wear. It's now too long, and the variable valve timing is unable to take up the slack. If the pump chain slips you will get high pressure pump codes because the cam won鈥檛 be in time with the crank anymore. That means the cam won't be pushing the pump when needed, so it won鈥檛 make enough pressure. Hence the fault. If the cam timing changes too much the intake vacuum will be affected and the motor will also show intake manifold pressure codes that won鈥檛 clear, in conjunction with cam codes. These can be tricky to diagnose, because all those codes can appear for other (less serious) reasons, all of which must be ruled out before determining there is a cam chain problem.

AA Cars works closely with thousands of UK used car dealers to bring you one of the largest selections of Land Rover Defender cars on the market. You can also browse Land Rover dealers to find a second hand car close to you today. All used Land Rover Defender on the AA Cars website come with free 12 months breakdown cover. In the Land Rover range, the only model which still carries the same raw performance and robust character of the original cars is the Defender. A boxy, chunky beast, it may not be beautiful in the traditional sense, but it has a rugged charm which manages to enamour both 4X4 enthusiasts and even some green-minded environmentalists. On the road it is sluggish and unrefined; bulky and solid. Off road, on the other hand, it is a fiercely capable, utilitarian tank of a car. In a market rife with comfortable, domesticated SUVs, the Defender is a reminder of what a 4X4 was designed to do - take you anywhere you wanted to go. Whether there are roads there or not.

The model can lay claim to being the original compact SUV, developed 23 years ago off the platform of the Corona sedan. These days it is available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, 2WD and AWD, and a variety of specification levels. The RAV4 first arrived in New Zealand in 1995, and is now in its fourth generation. It has been the top-selling SUV eight times since 2001, including the last four consecutive years, and has been second on the sales list eight times. Little wonder then that late last year Toyota NZ produced 100 limited-edition "Edition 21" versions to celebrate the vehicle's 21 years on the Kiwi market. You can choose whether the Kia Sportage deserves to be running second in the Medium SUV sales race, or in first place sans the rental business. It doesn't really matter. What does matter is that this SUV was last year considered good enough to be one of the finalists for the 2016 NZ Car of the Year award. In 2016 it was also good enough to become the first Korean vehicle to top the monthly passenger vehicle sales list in New Zealand.

Given slow sales and little marketing support, we鈥檙e still more than a bit dubious as to the LR2鈥檚 long-term future here in the U.S. We speculated earlier that the Range Rover Evoque Pure may spell the end of the LR2 in our region, but two new rumors have cropped up that make us doubly unsure about the LR2鈥檚 prospects. The first is that Land Rover is considering a sub-Evoque (or Land Rover) that could land it square in LR2 territory as far as price and function are concerned. 40,000.00. A mini-Range Rover and a Wrangler-fighting DC100 seem to leave little room for the LR2. All that aside, the 2012 Land Rover LR2 is on dealership lots and ready for your inspection. Over the past couple of months, Land Rover has been releasing a trickle of information regarding the 2012 model. For starters, the LR2 is essentially a direct carryover from 2011. So much so that according to the current data we have, introductory MSRPs remain unchanged from last year.

Most every car with higher mileage will have one of these, though it usually only amounts to a slow seep, and never an actual leak that will leave oil puddles behind on the ground. These, you don't especially need to worry about, unless they get worse. If you're noticing a slight burnt oil fume and can't identify where it's coming from, this is most likely your answer. You can sometimes repair these seeps and leaks by carefully tightening your bolts, but you shouldn't do it yourself. Ask your mechanic the next time you have an oil change to take a look. Engine oil stop leak won't fix this, but that's okay because it's easy to fix otherwise. In your oil pan, on the underside of the car, is a screw in plug. It exists so that when you need your oil changed, the plug can be unscrewed and all the old oil will flow out. Then the plug can be screwed in again and new oil put in.

Mazda 3 2.2D 2019 DPF Blocked After Timing Chain Replacement

Mazda 3 2.2D 2019 DPF Blocked After Timing Chain Replacement

Firstly, thanks to all on PH for the advice given to everyone. I've picked up a lot from here over the last few years! I think I've been stitched up by a dealer. I have a 2010 Mazda 3 Sport, 2.2D. 162k miles, owned from 2013/75k. Generally pretty reliable. There are well documented issues with the timing chain in Mazda 2.2D engines of this era needing replacement if they become slack. Mazda introduced a software update a few years ago which causes the DPF light to flash if the tension in the timing chain goes beyond a particular value (10.5 degrees). A couple of months ago my DPF light started flashing (which can mean a few things, including that it's reached it's service interval). At the time I wasn't aware of the timing chain issue, however the oil was fairly new and the service interval had been reset when the oil was replaced.

The Halogen projector headlamps are new, as are the rear tail lamps which now have a clear inner lens and a black lens surround for greater definition. The tailgate handle is now finished in body color and the full width signature strip is finished in Noble. Additional body colored parts include door handles, headlamp washer jets, door mirrors and lower side door panels and rear bumper are fully painted as standard. Door mirrors now have a 10 percent larger glass area and to really set off the fresh styling there are also new 18聰 (standard) and 19聰 (optional) alloy wheels. The choice of colors has changed for 2011 too, with the addition of Kosrae Green, Baltic Blue and Fuji White. In the cabin, there are two new contemporary seat styles offering a greater range of choice. Napoli leather and New Windsor leather for the LUX Package. These two new styles differentiate between trim levels.

A number of those people had lube related problems - lifter noise, and worse. That tells me the long intervals work for some people, but not everyone. What鈥檚 the sensible solution? Change your oil a bit more often, with the very best available materials, and whichever kind of driver you are, you should be safe. With newer BMW, Mercedes, and Land Rover vehicles where a 15k oil change interval is recommended, I suggest reducing that interval to 10,000 miles or annually, whichever comes first. If you do that on a 2011 Land Rover, Mercedes, or BMW, you will have an engine that鈥檚 just like new at 100k miles. It is imperative to use the proper grade of synthetic oil with the correct extended drain additive packages. Always make sure the oil you use meets the specific requirements of your car. For example, some Mercedes, use an oil that meets MB specification 229.51 while others use a different spec.

There is no Land Rover problem we can't solve. When you entrust your Land Rover to Robison Service you can feel secure knowing a master, not an apprentice, will service your car. Jaguar Land Rover Timing Chain Lawsuit Says Engines Fail

Jaguar Land Rover Timing Chain Lawsuit Says Engines Fail

August 5, 2018 鈥?A Jaguar Land Rover timing chain lawsuit alleges multiple models have timing chain systems that cause failures of the engines. This proposed class-action involves 2012-2014 Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles equipped with 8-cylinder multi-valve 5-liter AJ-V8 Gen III engines. Failure of the timing chains allegedly causes the camshafts and crankshafts to go out of synchronization and lose power, or causes the pistons and valves to slam into each other. A driver will likely hear noise caused by a loose or worn timing chain before it completely fails. And damage to the engine will cause acceleration and stalling problems, with the possibility of catastrophic engine failure as the valves hit the pistons. The timing chains in the Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles can also allegedly suffer from too much slack in the chains from excessive wear to the chain sprockets. According to the lawsuit, the timing chain tensioning rails, used to regulate the timing chain tension, are made with cast aluminum while the tensioner pistons are made of hardened steel. But the plaintiff says those rails are defective and fail prematurely, a problem the automaker knew about before the vehicles were sold.

Luckily, Wilks proved to Rover-factory heads that his design would be a commercial success as well as a reliable multi purpose vehicle that could easily challenge Jeep's supremacy. The first Land Rover was revealed at the Amsterdam Auto Show on April 30, 1948 where it caught the eye of many. Far mode orders than the maximum that could be handled poured in, making a celebrity out of the freshly-launched vehicle. Built on a Jeep chassis, the Land Rover's main selling points were its rugged, light weight construction and ability of effortlessly covering rough terrain. Great Britain was still a colonial Empire at the time and took full advantage of its position at the time to spread the Land Rover throughout its provinces. Before befriending expeditions leaders and off-road enthusiasts, the Land Rover became popular with farmers all across Great Britain. For farmers to embrace the idea of switching from horse to Diesel-powered vehicles, the Land Rover had to make proof of its capabilities which it sure did. Soon after, it became the car of choice among gentlemen and land lords.

Jaguar Land Rover is the latest automaker to pull out of the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March. The company cites cost-cutting as a reason for skipping the event, according to Autocar. The automaker is "looking at the effectiveness of each motor show individually," a spokesperson for the company told Autocar. Business at JLR is currently going through a rough patch due in large part to dealing with tariffs in China. Globally from January to October, the automaker's sales are down 4 percent to 492,388 deliveries, which wasn't too bad. However, sales volume in the People's Republic dropped 49 percent just in October. JLR isn't alone in bowing out of the 2019 Geneva show, though. Ford already announced its intention to skip the event because the March date didn't match the automaker's vehicle launch schedule. The Blue Oval decided to arrange separate gatherings for unveiling new models. Volvo made a similar decision for analogous reasons. The company believes that setting up its own vehicle debut events is a better way to grab the attention of potential customers, rather than being caught up in the cacophony of news during a major auto show.

Timing Chain Problems 2019-newer Jaguar Land Rover AJ V8 Engines

Timing Chain Problems 2019-newer Jaguar Land Rover AJ V8 Engines

Land Rover / Jaguar AJ V8 cam chains - post 2010. One weakness is in the tensioners, which are lightweight aluminum and plastic. The cam chain tensioners have hard steel rams that wear into the guide rails. Over time the tensioners can jam in the holes, leading to loss of tension. The oil pump/injection pump chain guides are plastic with a spring steel tensioner that can weaken. We鈥檝e seen a couple modes of failure in these engines. The first is when the tensioners wear holes in the chain guides because the steel tension rams are harder than the guides. Land Rover addressed that sometime around 2014 with the addition of hardened steel caps on the cam chain guides. However, the engines still seem to have problems. One concern we have is that, as of summer 2019, Land Rover had not updated the tensioner itself - just the guide rails. All we can do is hope the tensioners themselves are not part of the problem.

The LR2鈥檚 small size, compared to Land Rover鈥檚 full-sized LR3 and Range Rovers, is misleading. Both outside and inside, the 2009 Land Rover LR2 feels like a rather big vehicle. And yet, the LR2 performs admirably in urban environments for parking in tight spaces, commuting to work, going on shopping trips and hauling around the kids. On my road test, I found the 2009 Land Rover LR2 drives well in all performance and handling categories. Acceleration is excellent for such a heavy vehicle. On my highway test, the LR2 bolted rather quickly down the freeway and then glided along wonderfully at lightning-fast speeds. Braking felt a bit too sensitive at times, but definitely responsive. Handling, especially the tight turning radius, was impressive in my city driving tests. As for suspension, the LR2 feels much more like an SUV rather than a car with its slight pitching and rolling on bumps and turns.

INTERVIEW - Following two successful experiments with kanban boards, Jaguar Land Rover decided to extend the reach of its lean product development activities to include all new vehicle programs. Here鈥檚 how the story unfolded. Planet Lean: Jaguar Land Rover has recently started to apply lean principles to its product development activities. Tell us about this experience. The pace of innovation is accelerating and developments in vehicle technologies add to increasing complexity. These converging trends present exciting engineering challenges and require increasingly rapid product development capability. We see great opportunities in borrowing ideas from the agile software community and adapting them to new vehicle development. We began in earnest in 2014 by tracking CAD progression on a kanban board. We really knew we were onto something, with significant results about six months in, when an external report captured the positive effects these changes were having on the vehicle program. A second program gave even better improvements in quality and delivery times and now we have a remit to apply to all new vehicle programs.

Jaguar Land Rover is poised to deliver a major boost to the Government's plans to boost growth by confirming this week that it will build a 拢400m engine plant in the Midlands that will potentially create up to 2,000 jobs. The Sunday Telegraph understands JLR could announce the engine plant as early as Monday alongside Vince Cable, the Business Secretary, and that it has secured financial support from the Government to bring the plant to the UK. The engine plant will be based at the i54 business park in Wolverhampton, which has been made an enterprise zone. The Coalition has also offered around 拢10m of support for the JLR plant, although it is not clear what form this will take. The car industry has been identified as "crucial" by the Government if the UK is to increase the size of its manufacturing base and exports. JLR's decision to expand into a new factory will be warmly welcomed.

Timing Chain Problems 2019-newer Jaguar Land Rover AJ V8 Engines

Timing Chain Problems 2019-newer Jaguar Land Rover AJ V8 Engines

Tensioner and main guide rail for Land Rover AJ V8, 2012. Land Rover isn鈥檛 the only engine where that鈥檚 a concern, and turning engines backward is no exactly common. Furthermore, we have seen skipped chains on engines whose owners swear they were never manually turned backward. If correct, this may mean the tensioners are losing tension on their own, or it may mean the chains are losing their grip on the gears. We have also seen slipped chains in engines whose the oiler tubes have been torn off by contact with the running chains. The only way that contact could happen would be for the chains to go slack on overrun, which again suggests tensioners are failing on their own. If an oiler lube (several inches long) got pulled into a timing gear, it鈥檚 not hard to imagine the chain slipping a few teeth in passing. It is also possible to get chain, guide, and gear failure when the oil breaks down and the chains stretch and wear. In some cases you have a clue to this by the sight of sludge and black debris under the covers.

Whereas Volvo's AWD system kicks in when sensors detect slippage, Terrain Response dials in the desired control in advance. The LR2 also has Hill Descent Control, Roll Stability Control and Gradient Release to prevent rolling backward on an incline by releasing the brake in stages. Fortunately, the LR2 is not lacking on the blacktop, with a monococque structure on an independent suspension. In terms of rigidity, its engineers say only the Range Rover and Porsche Cayenne are stiffer than the LR2. Powering this 5-passenger CUV with stadium seating is a version of the 3.2L DOHC I-6 developed with Volvo Cars and tweaked for each auto maker's respective vehicles, recognizing the different expectations for the Volvo S80 sedan. Mounted transversely to create more front-passenger space, for Land Rover the I-6 generates 230 hp and 234 lb.-ft. The I-6 boasts a patented Cam Profile Switching system with two different cam profiles machined into the same camshaft; one is ideal for low-speed low-load towing, and the other is tapped for higher speeds and bigger loads.

While offering superior ride quality and excellent off road ability all round air suspension has helped set it apart from its rivals. However, there are a lot of components in the system and faults are commonplace. Most air suspension faults have the same symptoms, a SUSPENSION INACTIVE message will show on the dash display. Even though the majority of the suspension components are heavy duty parts they are on a vehicle that weighs the best part of 3 tons so eventually they are going to give. We are coming across this issue quite frequently on the later model Range Rover L322s. If you have noticed that your fuel gauge is reading incorrectly then this can be caused by a faulty fuel pump or a faulty ECU. However, we have found that often it is just an issue with the connectors that attach the wiring loom to the fuel sender unit that corrode giving intermittent signals and fortunately these can be replaced. It is a common fault with a number of Land Rover models. Another issue we are seeing more of in our workshop on the Range Rover L322 is failing ignition switches. If you are finding difficulty turning the key in the ignition then this is generally the reason.

These cars currently have autopilot where they drive themselves with an attentive driver at the wheel, which really takes the stress out of traffic. It was so cool to let the car drive itself. The service here and the professionalism of the young men working here to explain a lot of new things and educate people as they come in. They were very patient with my technology challenged wife. Tesla is working on fully autonomous, where the car can drive itself with nobody inside to run errands, make money as taxi, taking multiple people to work /school. The experts say that we wouldn't have traffic issues if cars drove themselves. All you left lane riders! Slower traffic stays right by law. Follow it. It is the way the German Autobahn works. Be courteous and move over, people. My PSA for the day. This was the worst sales experience I have ever had. I was treated as if I couldn't afford to be in the store and had no salesman attempt any conversation to help in my decision of purchasing a Tesla.

Jaguar Land Rover Timing Chain Lawsuit Says Engines Fail

Jaguar Land Rover Timing Chain Lawsuit Says Engines Fail

The plaintiff claims there is a contact point between the piston-rail that causes a wear point in the tensioning rail that causes outward movement of the tensioner piston, as well as chain slack and the chain rattle heard by drivers. The plaintiff says in addition to the cost and hassle of timing chain failures, there is a serious safety issue to deal with when a vehicle loses power steering and power brakes while driving. The lawsuit also alleges that while the timing chains fail, the owner's manuals for the vehicles say nothing about inspecting the timing chains or performing maintenance on the chain assemblies because timing chains should last at least 150,000 miles. In place of timing chains that last 150,000 miles, the lawsuit alleges the affected vehicles are equipped with chains that fail at less than 50 percent of their expected lifespans. Plaintiff Schmidt alleges his vehicle started having problems at 80,000 miles, even though the timing chain was supposed to be "maintenance-free" for life.

The British SUV wins against the Mercedes-Benz G-Class as well. The German hauler has only 16 cubic feet behind the second row, less than half of the Defender鈥檚 capacity. Fold the seats and it increases to 69 cubic feet. That鈥檚 not bad, but it鈥檚 almost 10 cubic feet less than the Defender. As far as materials go, the base model comes with Resolve textile upholstery. Upgrade to the S or SE trims and you get grained leather combined with robust textile surfaces made from Decitex fibers and recycled polyester. These materials pay tribute to the canvas hoods fitted to early Land Rover Series models that preceded the Defender. Move up the trim ladder to the HSE and you鈥檒l be wrapped in higher grade Windsor leather. Finally, the Defender X combines the same leather with Steelcut Premium textile accents for enhanced durability. This textile is a 30 percent wool blend and is also available as an alternative to the leather upholstery paired with Miko suede cloth.

I want to try something new out. I'm not just a one dimensional person with only Land Rovers as my life. I also like to ride bikes, road and mountain. And I went on a ride yesterday, so I hope to tell the tale today. Loading up my bike and gear in the 109 then driving down to Santa Cruz, Calif I parked in front of the old Wrigley's building(yes of the gum fame) that is now home to Santa Cruz bikes. It was very quiet on the Thanksgiving Holiday morn as I geared up and headed N. on Mission Street. My loose plan was to ride over to Wilder Ranch State Park and then climb to the top by 1 of many possible ways. As I passed the horse corrals I finally decided that I would go up the west side of Englemann's loop and then climb up Wild Boar Trail. Once there I wasn't sure which way I would go. The coast around here is composed of sedimentary layers laid down in a series of marine terraces. It has been lifted and exposed by tectonic plate interaction.

Update: March 2015 - Rumors are buzzing again about Ford putting a 3.0L V6 diesel in the F-150. Ram (Dodge) has introduced a V6 diesel in their light duty pickup called EcoDiesel and it's getting a lot of attention. Update: June 2010 - The sweet 4.4L V8 diesel engine that was rumored to go in the F-150 is going into a Land Rover! You heard that right. The 4.4L V8 diesel engine that is a Ford engine, produced in the Ford Chihuahua engine plant in Mexico, will not make it to the American market in the forseeable future. It is destined for Europe, and not in any Ford products. Better luck next time Diesel F150 fans! I suppose it may make it to the F-150 some day, but for now we're not optimistic. Update: January 2010 - Well it's not official but it seems that the idea of putting a diesel engine in the F-150 is dead. It doesn't help that the high gas prices seen in 2008 have gone away and gas is relatively cheap still.

Timing Chain Problems 2019-newer Jaguar Land Rover AJ V8 Engines

Timing Chain Problems 2019-newer Jaguar Land Rover AJ V8 Engines

Prevention is the best course of action. Metal-on-metal wear is the cause of chain wear and failure. If we assume (or hope!) that the JLR specified oil is strong enough to prevent this when new, we might expect better protection if we change it earlier. Hence our advice to change oil at 7,500 miles, though that number is somewhat arbitrary and cautious owners might prefer a 5 or 6k interval. Readers of my columns may note that I've written about timing chain issues on other car lines, such as Mercedes. On those engines we often saw chain wear in engines where there was extensive sludge buildup, which suggests the driver used "economy" oil in place of the recommended oil, and didn't change it often enough. The Land Rover engines we see are mostly clean inside, even with clear chain/guide failure. Looking at the engine photos above you will note the designers have three oil jets aimed at the crank gear. Clearly that is the highest stress point for oil in this engine.

While widespread layoffs are occurring, and wealthy types being forced to forgo lucrative bonuses at the very least, its no wonder why premium car sales have been hit hard. But while some dealerships may be struggling to get by, others such as Denver Land Rover dealers have the luxury of having a long-established business and a well-known name to get by while sales nationwide suffer. Although premium new car sales have been shaky at best, there is a silver lining for some. Premium used car sales among New Hampshire Volvo dealers and Philadelphia used car dealers have actually increased. Mercedes Benz Pittsburgh says luxury buyers dont want to give up the premium brand, but they do want to spend the normal gobs of cash to get it. The automotive market in general is in a dismal state, and theres more to it than just building the wrong cars. Many claim that the biggest problem with the Big Three is that they have produced the wrong types of cars. Yet at Los Angeles harbor, loads premium cars remain unsold and awaiting shipment. Luckily for premium automakers, they have the cash to get by. Unfortunately, like the Big Three, many premium dealers may not have that luxury.

The African assault course laid out to prove the credentials of the new 2013 Land Rover Range Rovers was one potential disaster after another. It involved scaling trails over the highest pass through Morocco's Atlas Mountains and then wading through riverbeds that were only slightly shallower than the redesigned SUV's almost 3-foot fording depth. That was followed by a drive up a coastal dune bank that even a balloon-tired Land Rover Defender was incapable of surmounting. Good thing this all-new SUV feels immensely strong, generating not a rattle, creak or squeak when lurching over boulders or clambering across gullies deep enough to leave its 20-inch wheels momentarily dangling. We rarely heard wheels spinning for grip, though, and its ability to stop itself from sledging to the bottom of steep slopes without our needing to touch the pedals was unsettlingly counterintuitive until we learned to trust it. So What's the New Recipe?
