The Discovery models, Series 1 and 2 have several issues with rust and rot, (as does the Classic Range Rover). 0 of 8192 characters usedPost CommentNo HTML is allowed in comments, but URLs will be hyperlinked. Comments are not for promoting your articles or other sites. Too right, Jemjoseph. Anyway your eyes will tell you if there's trouble ahead (let's face the music and dance, we know a song about that, don't we). My last Landie was a 'Disco' (Discovery). Didn't make it past its MoT (road viability test, if it fails you're on the lookout for an old banger if you haven't the cash to get the work done). So now I've got my elder daughter's VW Polo. What a come-down, eh? Still, it's mobility of a sort until I get the wherewithal for a 'County' or 'Defender'. You seem to have enough experience with Land Rovers to know exactly what you're looking for in your ideal vehicle. The beauty of the Land Rover and similar vehicles really is their off road capabilities. Here the price of diesel is at cheapest 拢1.36 per litre (a filling station a mile and a half or so from where I live.

The reason the H2 SUT has such a surprisingly comfortable ride for a heavy, off-road vehicle is its suspension. Motor Trend. The standard suspension in the front is an independent setup with torsion bars, 46-mm monotube gas-charged shocks and a 36-mm stabilizer bar. Standard rear suspension is a five-link variable-rate coil spring setup with 46-mm monotube gas-charged shocks and a 30-mm stabilizer bar. The H2 SUT steering is also fine for its size. Motor Week, adding, "But steering feel from the variable ratio, recirculating ball steering unit is light and progressive with a good deal of feedback." Still, the H2 isn't perfect. Flint Journal. A reviewer for MSN also found the H2 difficult to maneuver in small spaces. When a vehicle weighs 6,400 pounds, it has to have good stopping power, and the 2008 Hummer H2 SUT doesn't disappoint. Four-wheel disc four-channel anti-lock brakes with dual piston calipers with dynamic rear proportioning stop the H2. The H2 also uses engine braking to minimize brake fade, much like giant tractor-trailer trucks. Though most reviewers believe that the majority of buyers will never take the H2 off-road, they also agree that off-road is one area where it really shines.

Perhaps if enough citizens united were to raise their voices at once to the appropriate authority? I am glad to know that you hate it too, SUSIE42! I think it is getting worse. I absolutely hate when someone tailgates me. I always keep at least 5 car lengths between me and other drivers. So many wonderful comments! It looks like tailgating is happening everywhere. Is it road rage? Too many cars on the roads? Hello, hello - Thanlks for reading and commenting! 50 - That's a good idea. I;ve thought of just killing my engine and putting up the hood, but your's is much easier and more visual. Med Support - I am thankful you and your son were not hurt, car-jacked, or killed. Once when I was tailgated by a suspicious vehicle, I knew where the police station was in that town and drove right to it. That did the trick, but I should have gotten the license plate number and gone inside and reported it. I just left town quickly by interstate. Tailgating is horrible. So much road and no need to tailgate.

Some places (greed knows no bounds!) around the same area sell it at about 拢1.43 - around ten miles away in semi-rural Sewardstone (part of Chingford, London E4) diesel is on sale @ 拢1.48! We have to plan our journeys better these days. I get reasonable value for mileage with this Tdi, about 35 mpg. I shall be doing a bit of 'green-laning' (easier off-roading) when I go north in ten days' time, up in the Dales and on the Moors. Hey Alan, we've got some similar tastes here! My family was fairly well off when I was a kid, my first vehicle was a totally decked out 1986 Ford Bronco - it was a luxury 4x4, but not so fine as a Land Rover. I used to go driving for the sheer pleasure of it! Those days are gone forever. Anjili first: What engine you have in a 'Landie' determines its viability and economy. An old diesel engine - there can't be many originals left, they were under-powered and prone to blowing their heads - wouldn't be much use for long drives along the A-routes, let alone M-ways! Then there are the old petrol engines.

This car was delivered with Jaguar鈥檚 latest InControl Touch Pro infotainment - a system that didn鈥檛 come with CarPlay or Android Auto on it. But Rogers鈥?team went on to show how these older vehicles could be updated to receive these sought-after hi-tech features. Plugging a laptop into the car to get it into service mode then allowed them to insert a simple memory stick into the car鈥檚 USB socket to update this old system with the very latest technology. In no time at all, not only were Apple CarPlay and Android Auto where they weren鈥檛 before, but the system also offered further SOTA updates. Rogers says that the latest software update will be available on all Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles from 2015, as long as they have InControl Touch Pro fitted. It鈥檚 a rare example of a vehicle getting a valuable upgrade to its in-car tech long after it has left the showroom. Rogers also hopes that dealers will see the benefits of offering the updates to existing owners free of charge. The tech challenges that all car makers are facing are huge, with every single one of them looking to steal a march on their rivals. Do you think JLR can lead the way forward with car technology?

The eight-speed gearbox isn鈥檛 easily confused and is particularly steadfast in its sportiest Dynamic setting, holding onto gears in auto mode or delivering snappy manual shifts via the paddles. Straight-line performance is matched by handling and body control that are well resolved for what is one of the largest SUVs on the market. The standard adaptive air suspension continually adjusts to the surface and - even on our car鈥檚 20-inch wheels - soaks up the worst of rough roads without compromising body control, even in laid-back Comfort mode. Larger, more abrupt imperfections can upset the car鈥檚 composure, but the Q7 never feels as at sea as a Range Rover can in similar conditions. Excessive pitch and roll are notable by their absence, even without Audi鈥檚 new active roll stabilisation system - an option that won鈥檛 make it to the UK. The Q7 feels a little more composed than the Volvo XC90, with a better compromise between ride and handling: as plush in its comfiest setting and more pliant when set to its stiffest. Otherwise, the new Q7 offers everything that a large premium SUV should: great build quality, high-class materials, acres of space and a sizeable boot. The latter is among the biggest in its class but its lip feels particularly high off the ground.

The power is incredible and the comfort is under rated in this beautiful Model! Refined and luxurious, the all-weather A6 family offers a satisfying alternative to the BMW 5 Series or Mercedes E-Class. Tired of looking at compact cars when what you really want is a Luxury SUV. You want a vehicle that looks utilitarian but doesn't drive that way, you can't do much better than the X5. Fully Loaded; navagational system, front and rear parking sensors, Xenon headlights, dual power seats, heated seats in front and rear, leather interior and more! A Definite Must See! Can't make it to the auction? 2001 Porsche Boxster HOT! 2001 Porsche in great condition ready to be taken out for a test drive! It is up for a public Auction on July 6th. The SUV offers high stadium-style seating in the front and in the rear, so everyone riding has the same view while traveling on the road. The 2014 Land Rover LR2 can comfortably accommodate two child-safety seats in the second row without crowding the first row's legroom. 895 destination charge), the LR2 falls in the middle price range among competitors like the Volvo XC60, Acura RDX and BMW X3. The combination of a large 7-inch touchscreen has more user-friendly analog buttons and knobs which means that most controls are easily accessible. The available Climate Comfort option package adds a heated windshield, heated front seats, steering wheel and heated washer jets. The 2014 Land Rover LR2 has a few minor upgrades, including better satellite radio functionality, a newly available audio system from Meridian with surround-sound, an amazing seventeen speakers and an improved touchscreen interface. Also missing a smart keyless access system feature that has been a longtime mainstay of the luxury sector and is also standard in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Nissan Murano, Kia Sorento and other non-luxury SUVs. The monochrome plastic generously found inside the LR2 is of poor quality, plain-looking and rather dated compared to the Evoque.

My second one, the Series IIa, came under this heading. Good performance on the M-way even, but thirsty (about 25mpg at best), but she was great over the moors! Then the third one, originally bought because of the Perkins diesel engine advertised. Good performance, but age got the better of it, and I was driving it too fast. It wasn't really meant to go at more than about 55mph, and ended up belching out black smoke! The workshop I took it to insisted in putting in a more modern Tdi300, 2.5 litre meant for a 110. Good performance again, about 30-35mpg (that's good for a 'Landie'. Then there's the 1995 engine I've got in my 'Disco', even better! I'd say I get upwards of 35mpg from this one. If you had a V6 or V8, you'd need a bottomless wallet. Plenty of torque, but downright THIRSTY. I know some people who have older 'Landies' whose vehicles only do UP TO 20mpg! Not as good in performance any more, either, but it depends on the quality of maintenance.

The original Defender was always designed to be functional first, but the new model has added some class and refinement, without compromising on utility. The front and rear overhangs are as pared back as ever, translating to excellent approach and departure angles, and the side-hinged tailgate has been retained for ease-of-access. Naturally, the spare wheel has to be mounted on the back. It just wouldn鈥檛 be a Defender without it. There鈥檚 plenty of flat metal on the bonnet, too, just the way we like it. Form follows function, and that D7x construction was created with overlanding in mind. Perhaps the part of the old Defender most direly in need of a 21st century upgrade, the new Defender鈥檚 interior is on par with modern Land Rover standards. Having said that, it retains some of the rugged appeal of its forebears. The new Pivi Pro infotainment system promises to be more user-friendly than ever, adding touch-screen sophistication and a full suite of technological aids and media options. Software updates now happen over the air, ensuring the system always performs flawlessly.

The matching leather interior is somewhat worn in the front seats but the back seat looks great. It also has a leather steering wheel and shifter and comes with good tires on alloy wheels. You'll enjoy a smooth, stable ride and the security of Quattro control when you make the winning bid on this beautiful aqua Audi. 2000 Kia Sportage GAS SAVER! If you've been searching for a cute, compact sport utility, here it is! This metallic teal Sportage haa a good body, with only minor blemishes on the hood, an easy fix if you choose to do so. The charcoal patterned velour interior is clean and in good condition. It has a roof rack so you can load up your skis or bikes or whatever you want to bring along and comes with good tires on alloy wheels. This sporrty gas saving utility vehicle is a useful and sweet deal for you if you make the lucky bid at Interstate Auto Auction! 1998 Volkswagen Passat GAS SAVER!

The Evoque's ride is firm, and road imperfections make themselves readily known to all occupants. Encounter a twisty road and the Evoque can hold its own, but those looking for something that will more closely emulate a sports car in such a scenario should look elsewhere. Its wild styling may make the Evoque stand out in traffic, but its fuel-economy estimates certainly don't call any attention to the vehicle鈥攖hey are only average. Plus, in the real world, its fuel-efficiency claims are difficult to emulate. Likes: Modern design, crisp-looking infotainment display, nearly flat load floor with rear seats stowed. Dislikes: Cramped back-seat space, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto not standard, convertible model offers very little cargo room. Living up to the Range Rover name isn't easy, but the Evoque distills the lap-of-luxury cabin of its much larger namesake and adds its own spin with a contemporary design. The Evoque's standard infotainment offerings will assuage only casual users; high-tech drivers are encouraged to upgrade to the optional InControl Touch Pro, which adds a 10.2-inch display.
