Boxy Bollinger B1 And B2 Launched With All-electric Power

Bollinger has officially launched its all-electric B1 and B2 off-roaders. The Amercan start-up EV manufacturer claims they are 鈥渢he world鈥檚 most capable鈥?sports utility truck and pick-up truck respectively, with both models offering a configurable body shell, a stripped-back interior and class-leading carrying capacity and off-road ability. The B1 and B2 share the same all-electric powertrain, with a 120kWh battery pack, an electric motor for each axle, permanent four-wheel-drive and a regenerative braking system. Bollinger says the motors have an output of 606bhp and 906Nm of torque, which gives both vehicles a 0-60mph time of 4.5 seconds, a top speed of 100mph and a range of 200 miles. Both vehicles鈥?battery packs offer support for either 220V charging via a conventional household socket, or DC fast-charging via a commercially available CCS port. Bollinger claims the former system allows a full recharge in 10 hours, while the latter can brim the battery in just 75 minutes. Initial specifications suggest that the B1 SUV will be more capable than the new Land Rover Defender.

The Discovery looked like it could tip over with the slightest mistake and it felt that way, too. So we were pleasantly surprised to find no such malady in the LR2. It felt more planted than tippy. And it was downright comfortable. The standard all-wheel drive system is biased toward the front wheels moving torque rearward as needed. Inside, the LR2 has the requisite Land Rover look with leather seats and splashes of wood. The standard switchgear is generally user friendly. On the plus side, the climate control knobs are instructive and the audio system uses large knobs for volume and tuning. And it鈥檚 not bundled with the navigation system to Land Rover鈥檚 credit. Redundant audio buttons and cruise control buttons are on the steering wheel making access easy. Window switches are conveniently mounted high up on the door. Interior space is plentiful for four adults, and the massive sunroof can keep the passenger compartment airy if desired. Cargo volume is average for the small luxury SUV class at 59 cubic feet with seats folded. For comparison, the Acura RDX has 60 cubic feet and BMW X3 has 71 cubic feet available. 34,700 including destination. The aforementioned off-road equipment is standard as are 18-inch alloy wheels, a full power package, dual-zone climate control and a 320-watt nine-speaker Alpine audio system with six-disc in-dash changer. Three option packages are available. 3,500 features DVD-based navigation, 440-watt Dolby ProLogic surround sound system with Sirius satellite radio, rear-seat audio controls and Bluetooth phone module. 1,050 brings B-Xenon headlamps, adaptive front lighting system and driver memory seat and mirrors. A new HSE version of the LR2 featuring body colored bumpers and side sills, a rear spoiler, titanium door handles and 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels will make its way into dealerships this fall. There are some attractive small luxury-oriented crossovers on the market. We particularly like the Acura RDX. But if you want the prestigious Land Rover look with potentially more off road prowess than the competition, the new English-built LR2 is worth serious consideration.

Let us look back at the term of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, or PGMA in short. Her nine years in power experienced different events in the automotive industry which included sagging sales due to the economy, the influx of imported surplus vehicles from abroad. From 2001 until 2006, the market haven't reached six figures until 2007 when a ban on imported passenger vehicles was imposed by the president herself. In this feature, we shall discover the vehicles that were blockbuster hits and those that had miserably failed. This article covers vehicle launches from 2001 until 2009 (the first six months of 2010 are still her's, though we gave it away to the succeeding president) that were a hit or miss in terms of sales and market reception. One rule: only one hit or miss per years but numerous cars under one brand can fall if applicable. There are runner-ups but only a maximum of six cars will be listed.

If the chassis of the vehicle contacts the ground when the suspension was at its 'off road' height, the system senses the reduction in load on the air springs and raises the vehicle an extra inch. In the UK and European markets, a coil-spring independent suspension system was offered on the base model. This model was unique in the range by having only five seats and only being available with the 2.7 litre diesel engine. This model lacked the Terrain Response system. The engines used in the Discovery 3 were all taken from Land Rover's sister company at the time, Jaguar. A Ford/PSA-developed 2.7-litre, 195 hp (145 kW), 440 Nm V6 diesel engine (the TdV6) was intended to be the biggest seller in Europe. For the US market and as the high-performance option elsewhere, a 4.4 litre petrol V8 of 300 hp (220 kW) was chosen. A 216 hp (161 kW) 4.0-litre SOHC Ford V6 petrol engine was available in North America and Australia. The gearboxes on the Discovery 3 were also all-new.

The B1 comes with a two-speed high- and low-range gearbox, a near 50:50 weight distribution and approach and departure angles of 52 and 43 degrees - compared to the Defender鈥檚 respective figures of 38 and 40 degrees. However, due to its longer wheelbase, the B1鈥檚 breakover angle is marginally poorer than the Defender鈥檚 at only 30 degrees; an issue which Bollinger will eventually remedy with the introduction of a two-door, short-wheelbase version later in the car鈥檚 life-span. The B1 and B2 feature removable glass, doors, rear seats and roof panels, as well as a removable windscreen. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, bluetooth connectivity and six 110V sockets scattered throughout the cabin. Buyers will also be able to spec heated seats, glass roof panels and a winch as optional extras. Inside, there鈥檚 little else other than an analogue gauge cluster, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and seating for four. Both models also feature Bollinger鈥檚 patented 鈥減ass through鈥?panels between the rear bed, cabin and under-bonnet storage area. As such, the B1 can transport items up to five metres long, while the B2 can carry items almost six metres long. The B1 and B2 both have a payload of 5201lbs (2,360kg), a maximum towing capacity of 7,500lbs (3,400kg) and 15-inches of ground clearance. There鈥檚 around 400 litres of storage space under the bonnet of both models and Bollinger claims that the B2 can carry 72 sheets of 4 x 8陆 foot plywood with the rear seats removed. Bollinger is currently taking reservations for the B1 and B2, with the intent of starting production in mid-2020. The firm will prioritise the American market first, although Bollinger says it is planning to eventually sell both models overseas, in right-hand-drive format.

Whitley, UK, 27 March 2014 - Roger Crathorne, one of the best known and most highly respected Land Rover employees for more than five decades, is retiring from the company. From Royalty, VIP customers and senior military figures to journalists from all over the world, global explorers and countless generations of company management, Roger is known simply as 'Mr Land Rover'. As an instructor, he has passed on his vast knowledge and experience of off-road driving in the world's most inhospitable regions to thousands of people; all with passion and patience. Roger joined Land Rover in 1963 as an apprentice, but the story of his association with the company starts even earlier than that. Roger was born in 1947 in Lode Lane, Solihull at the local hospital - less than a mile from the factory where, at the exact same time, the idea for the first Land Rover was being conceived. After serving 15 years in engineering, and being closely involved in the development of the first Range Rover, Roger's reputation as an off-road expert came to the fore in 1978 when he became head of the company's vehicle demonstration team. The team went on to become Land Rover Experience which itself celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The brief was simple - to showcase the outstanding off-road capabilities of Land Rover vehicles to people of influence.

You鈥檒l be surprised. Range Rover is the brand of British multinational automotive company Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC that is a subsidiary of Indian automaker Tata Motors. So, formally, it is Indians who make Range Rover cars, while the main production facilities are still in the UK. Isn鈥檛 it Ford who owns Range Rover? 5.3 billion in 2000 when the latter purchased it from BMW. Range Rover or Land Rover? Both monikers exist and represent the same manufacturer. In fact, Land Rover is the name of the entire marque, while Range Rover is the name of one of its model lines. The Land Rover (LR model line) usually refers to rugged, off-road SUVs, while Range Rovers are more luxurious with emphasis on comfort and on-road abilities. Of course, even the cheapest Range Rover will cost you much more than an average LR SUV. Naturally, the best option, in this case, is the one that fulfills your needs for the budget you have.

You can鈥檛 always start at the top, but it鈥檚 nice to know you have a chance to get there. The Discovery Sport is Land Rover鈥檚 new entry-level model, and the first in its soon-to-grow Discovery line of street-smart crossovers. It mixes country club style with just enough off-road cred to earn the Land Rover logo. 2. The cargo bay they fill may be better left empty, and provides a nice big space when it is. Packing for a week-long trip for a family of four or five should be no problem. Don鈥檛 let the name fool you. 鈥淪port鈥?in this case really means 鈥渇un size,鈥?and there will be a larger Discovery model arriving next year. Nevertheless, its 240 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and nine-speed automatic transmission combo provides enough punch to keep things lively, even though it likes to hunt for fuel economy in the upper gears, where it finds 26 mpg on the highway.
