One mission plan was to deliver two rovers (one from each agency) to the same landing site using a modified MSL-1 Skycrane. The latest incarnation called for one, joint-effort, rover to be delivered to the surface of Mars via the Skycrane. It seems, however, that the rover may have been more of a European creation since ESA's ExoMars rover was so far along in its development cycle. This would have meant that JPL's rover team would have little to do for the foreseeable future. Its expertise has been honed over a decade of Mars missions. One can conjecture as to why NASA withdrew from cooperation with ESA for the ExoMars rover. One possibility is that, in return for a large investment of funds, NASA was not going to be able to maintain the team of artisans at JPL who designed and built MSL-1. They are a national asset. So, in the end, perhaps the Mars community is better off with this split. Instead of two rovers, or only one rover, at one site, there will now be two capable rovers exploring two separate sites on Mars.

Powered by transverse-mounted four-cylinder petrol or diesel engines, the Freelander uses an Intermediate Reduction Drive unit to take the drive to the back axle via a viscous coupling. Two body styles are offered - a five-door estate and an exciting three-door. The Freelander's off-road ability is reinforced by the innovative Hill Descent Control (HDC) system. April 30th sees the 50th anniversary of Land Rover. Special commemorative limited editions of all four models are produced. The Discovery Series II is launched. The new vehicle has a new, longer body to accommodate seven forward facing seats. Another innovation is Active Cornering Enhancement (ACE), a computer-controlled high-pressure hydraulic system to control vehicle roll. The ABS braking system of the new Discovery incorporates the Hill Descent Control (HDC) system developed for Freelander. The new Discovery acts as the launch platform for the Td5 engine, a five-cylinder, and 2.5-litre direct injection diesel engine featuring high pressure electronic unit injectors.

The model was launched with the Jaguar engines later to be seen in the Range Rover. This meant either a 4.2-litre supercharged V8, with 390bhp, or a normally-aspirated 4.4-litre. Both are great engines, but it's the former that everyone has eyes for. Performance is sensational, and it really gives the Range Rover Sport character. Indeed, alongside it, the nonsupercharged model was just a bit, well, plain. Land Rover would, in time, delete it for UK buyers. Most popular, though, is the 2.7-litre TDV 6. This is not the fastest unit in the world, but is easily the most fuel efficient, which helps its popularity with buyers. It delivers a combined fuel consumption of 27 miles per gallon. It's also impressively refined - and there are no visual clues from the outside that it's diesel. Important in this sector, where some buyers still 'don't do diesel'. It was given a much-needed performance boost in 2007, though. This is when the 3.6-litre TDV 8 engine was introduced.

It steers relatively accurately - albeit in an overly light fashion that鈥檚 largely devoid of feel. Its refinement is relatively strong, too; one of the most pleasing aspects of the new 208 is that it has been made much lighter than its predecessor without giving much away when it comes to cabin noise. Is it fun, though? Does it feel agile? Not particularly. It would seem to us that Peugeot, put simply, doesn鈥檛 think this sort of thing is important any more. We would find a Fiesta, Mazda 2 or Swift more entertaining to drive. Even a Polo, noted for its maturity rather than its brio, is a preferable steer. All of that is fine, as long as the car you are offering is easy to rub along with. The Vauxhall Corsa and Honda Jazz, for example, are just such cars. Crucially, though, all of the aforementioned and more are easier to drive than the Peugeot because of their driveline compliance.Subjectively, the 208 lags behind its mainstream competition by a significant distance. But thanks mainly to the three-cylinder engine, Peugeot has a statistical foundation on which to plant its price flag.

Additional off-road features include Hill Descent Control, Gradient Release Control and All-Terrain Progress Control. These give the Evoque driver precise vehicle management options when traveling up or down steep inclines. The new Evoque鈥檚 optional ClearSight Ground View technology further boosts confidence with exterior cameras offering a detailed real-time look at the ground underneath the SUV. Add in the Evoque鈥檚 8.3-inch ground clearance, 25-degree approach angle and 30.6-degree departure, and you鈥檝e got one of the most capable off-road luxury SUVs on the market. For on-road confidence, the Evoque鈥檚 new optional Adaptive Dynamics active suspension system reduces body roll and improves handling by monitoring road conditions every 100 milliseconds and adjusting the dampers to improve ride quality. The new Evoque also includes a standard Driveline Disconnect system, automatically switching between 2- and all-wheel drive to reduce drag and maximize fuel efficiency when conditions allow. An optional Active Driveline system (standard on R-Dynamic models) uses electronic torque vectoring to constantly balance the distribution of torque between the front and rear axles for added grip while cornering. The most drastic changes to the new 2020 Range Rover Evoque spring from its comprehensive infusion of technology.

By incorporating proven systems in the mission, the InSight team demonstrated that the mission concept was low-risk and could stay within the cost-constrained budget of Discovery missions. 425 million in 2010 dollars. John Grunsfeld, associate administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters. InSight will carry four instruments. JPL will provide an onboard geodetic instrument to determine the planet's rotation axis and a robotic arm and two cameras used to deploy and monitor instruments on the Martian surface. CNES is leading an international consortium that is building an instrument to measure seismic waves traveling through the planet's interior. The German Aerospace Center is building a subsurface heat probe to measure the flow of heat from the interior. JPL provides project management for NASA's Science Mission Directorate. NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., manages the Discovery Program for the agency's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. Lockheed Martin Space Systems in Denver will build the spacecraft. JPL is a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

What's New for 2018? Changes are minimal since the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover marks the middle of its generation. Most of the changes you will find are the technological features. On the outside, the Range Rover was given a new grille and rear bumper. On the interior, the seats have been widened, the window glass was thickened by 20 percent so as to reduce noise intrusion, and there is a chic new 12-inch touchscreen display available. There is no getting around the fact that the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover has a sophisticated, upscale vibe to it. The interior is impeccably crafted with top-of-the-line materials and flawless stitching. The paneling looks perfect with no noticeable gaps. The exterior has a rugged SUV feel but looks extremely contemporary and expensive. As per usual, the Range Rover is a highly-capable off-roader. The SUV gets plenty of ground clearance and has a suspension that is perfectly tuned for getting over rough road surfaces.

How does one go about explaining GM Canada's 805% year-over-year monthly sales increase of the GMC Yukon, or the Yukon's 286% jump from one month prior? Twitter has yet to answer, and The Good Car Guy readily admits that the only obvious possibility would be discounts of epic proportions. Even then, how did General Motors find an extra 500 people to enter the showroom, people who wanted to consider the purchase of a 2010 GMC Yukon? This isn't like finding 500 more Camry buyers in the United States. General Motors Canada sold a total of 354 large SUVs in July. The total mainstream large SUV market in July was barely larger than the GMC Yukon's August sales total. Unprecedented stuff, friends. Unprecedented. As for large luxury SUVs, sales increases were the name of the game. Cadillac's Escalade posted an 18.6% jump over August of 2009. Lincoln Navigator sales were off by three units in August but are up 56% year-to-date. 73,000 2011 Infiniti QX56 helped Nissan's luxury brand realize gains of 163% in the large luxury SUV category. Range Rover sales leapt forward at a rate 62% up on August 2009's sales pace.

Testers鈥?notes: 鈥淵ou have to pay extra for a two-tone roof on the Kona, but it鈥檚 free if you go for a C3 Aircross in top-spec Flair trim. We鈥檙e testing the 118bhp 2.0-litre petrol version of Mazda鈥檚 CX-3 crossover, which costs 拢18,695 in entry-level SE Nav trim (although our images show an SE-L Nav) with a six-speed manual box. It鈥檚 the only car here with four-cylinder engine and it鈥檚 twice the capacity of the Kona鈥檚, despite having the same power output. Is it still a good choice? While there鈥檚 no turbo to boost the CX-3鈥檚 engine, the extra capacity helps it to produce more torque than the Kona鈥檚 1.0-litre turbo unit. There鈥檚 a maximum of 204Nm, but because it鈥檚 delivered further up the rev range at 2,800rpm you need to work the engine harder to make progress. However, along with the low kerbweight, this means the CX-3 is quicker than its rivals in a direct sprint: it was the fastest car from 0-60mph, taking 9.4 seconds, and from 30-70mph through the gears, clocking 9.0 seconds.

The metallic jade green body has paint fadiing above the windshield and on the trunklid, there's an 8 inch rust patch at the bottom of the passenger side rear door, with the adjoining rocker panel detached at that end. There are surface scuffs on the passenger side front wheel well and the driver's side rear wheel well has 9 inches of rust. Ok, that's a list, but remember this is a NO RESERVE Honda Accord that can be yours for next to nothing; make a few repairs and wind up ahead of the game! The sandstone velour interior is soft, comfy and attractive, with a leather steering wheel and shifter. The sunroof is a perk you'll enjoy again and again and it rolls with good tires on alloy wheels. All Cars Are Green Light with Motor & Transmission in Good Working Order. This Grand Cherokee has a hefty front brush guard for added protection and comes with good, rugged name brand tires on alloy wheels.

The proposed NASA planetary exploration budget would fund a fleet of current and planned missions include Discovery and New Frontiers missions expected to be selected in the next few years and several CubeSat missions (latter three not shown). Excepting Europa (more on this later), there鈥檚 a lot to like in the proposed planetary budget. 110 million from this year鈥檚 FY16 budget. Fully fund the continued development of the 2020 Mars rover and support the selection and development of new missions for the low-cost Discovery program and the mid-cost New Frontiers program. Fully fund all missions currently in flight or operating at their target worlds. Unlike the previous couple of years, the budget doesn鈥檛 propose to end the Mars Opportunity rover or the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter missions. Provide slight increases for the programs that fund planetary science research and develop technology to be used in future missions. 2.2 billion Mars 2020 rover. 450 million) Discovery missions. 850 million) dollar New Frontiers mission in the mid-2020s.

Connection bows on your dining chairs as well as table, stairs, plants inside and also outside your home, silverware, or anywhere you could think of. Red and also eco-friendly are the basic Christmas shades, but you could use others as well. Gold, silver, along with floral patterned functions well for developing a cheery atmosphere. Unknot the bows as well as keep the bows properly after the vacation mores than to make sure that you can use them again for future celebrations. Even though it has actually become as a lot a nonreligious holiday as a religious one, Xmas just doesn't appear the very same without a nativity scene. Nonetheless, if your household is not Christian driven, you may feel a lot more comfy in missing this choice. For the rest people, there are a wide variety of interesting choices offered for a manger scene. Our scene has colorful statuaries of wise men, birthing armfuls of gifts for the Christ child, in addition to numerous pets loafing in reverent presents.

This board is a sort of dynamic wallpaper - it sits in front of your eyes while you butter your toast in the kitchen - you can be as passive as you like - the democracy comes to you. The process is fast. The leadership group have committed to addressing each idea at their next meeting and this means that ideas can get acted on while the energy is still there. This takes most of the politics out of these ideas. Getting your idea implemented is not about who you know or how well you can lobby for it, it鈥檚 about gaining support for good suggestions. There is zero doubt that autonomy and control over our own situation makes us happy. The more we can meaningfully contribute to things we care about at work, the prouder and happier we feel. And that way the company can also better tap into the creativity of its employees and become more efficient. Does your workplace empower its employees? For real or in a fake way? If you have a really good idea, do you know where to go with it? Is your workplace a democracy or a dictatorship? Meet the company that has no meetings, no emails, no fear and no bosses. The Range Rover's lovely dash is a work of automotive art. Colored piping on the seats is a subtle but effective accent. The Range Rover's dash is a complete original, and the fit and finish of the interior might easily lead one to believe it was handcrafted. The Range Rover has excellent room for four passengers, though it is designed to hold five. You can choose from five beautiful interior leather seat and piping combinations, all of which complement the standard Burl Walnut wood trim. For decades, the Range Rover was defined by its boxy, upright greenhouse and short front and rear overhangs. The 2009 Range Rover continues this theme but with a polish never before seen on a Land Rover product. From its flush multi-beam projector headlamps to the elegant side-fender louvers, every inch of this SUV looks as though it was assembled to be a one-of-a-kind vehicle. Options for the Range Rover include a 400-horsepower Supercharged V8, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, 14-way power driver's and passenger's seats, adaptive headlamps and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.

Artist rendition of the proposed InSight (Interior exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) Lander. InSight is based on the proven Phoenix Mars spacecraft and lander design with state-of-the-art avionics from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory missions. Credit: JPL/NASA From the press release. I know that many of my readers, and I, were hoping that the Titan TiME mission would be selected. For me, the science of the three candidate missions were all excellent. However, orbital mechanics meant that this would be the last chance to launch a Titan lake lander that could send its finding directly to Earth without a relay craft. It's possible to fly a Titan lake lander in the next couple of decades, but the cost of the mission would be higher because of the need for a relay craft. If the minimal relay is flown, the mission on the lake will last at most hours before the craft moves out of sight of the lakes.

Its cockpit is cramped and noisy, its seats aren鈥檛 comfortable and the controls are a long way from being slick. Much of a Defender鈥檚 interior is no more than approximately fitted, and its trim is doggedly functional, even if you can now order air-conditioning and a stereo, features that would have seemed absurd to the car鈥檚 creators. Yet there will have been many over the decades for whom there is no more comfortable place than a Defender, its cabin providing respite from the beating sun, lashing rain, excitable insurgents or hungry wildlife. If, however, you鈥檙e after a 4脳4 that provides the pampering insulations of a car, forget it. How reliable any potential purchase is likely to be is largely down to how much the car has been used and abused. But even cared-for Defenders aren鈥檛 as tough as you might think, with electrolytic corrosion an issue even on relatively new examples. Wear in the driveline and transmission is also common, as are leaks from the power steering, worn suspension bushes and water leaks into the cabin. Land Rover has issued five recalls for the Defender since 2000, four of which were for braking issues. There were potential problems with the handbrake, anti-lock system and flexible hoses, while some 1998 and 1999 cars could suffer from the flywheel breaking up.

Moving on, we have a diesel 3.0-liter V-6, which makes 275 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque, followed by a diesel 4.4-liter V-8 making 339 horsepower and 546 pound-feet of torque. If you prefer gas-burners, there鈥檚 a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 that makes either 525 horsepower and 460 pound-feet, or 565 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, depending on the trim level picked. Go for the base trim, and you鈥檒l get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 300 horsepower, with a top speed of 137 mph. For comparison, the V-8 can hit 60 mph in about 5 seconds flat. Part of the package includes aluminum-intensive construction for the suspension, with fully independent double wishbones in front and a multi-link suspension in the rear. Complementing the lightweight suspension bits is an all-aluminum body structure, which effectively reduces overall weight by a substantial 39 percent. On the handling front, the Range Rover gets something called the Dynamic Response system, which offers independent control over the axles, plus advanced roll control. Further equipment bits include an Active Rear Locking Differential and Adaptive Dampers, plus a variable-ratio speed-sensitive Electric Power Assisted Steering setup.

In this photo you can see a number of wires, but only one has crumbling insulation. We鈥檝e learned through hard experience that a sensor can test good, and the connector can be nice and clean, yet the signal may still fail to arrive at the other end. The more complex electrical system get the more common issues like this are becoming. Electrical systems in cars are more reliable for sure, but a modern car has hundreds of wires, as opposed to dozens in the cars of yesterday, and that makes them inherently more vulnerable. Sometimes all it takes is one strand corroded in a 20 wire harness, and if that wire carried a crank authorization signal you have a stranded vehicle. John is a longtime technical consultant to the car clubs, and he鈥檚 owned and restored many fine British and German motorcars. Reading this article will make you smarter, especially when it comes to car stuff. So it's good for you. But don't take that too far - printing and eating it will probably make you sick.

The 88 inch Series III makes a brilliant first Land Rover for young drivers you learn basic mechanics quickly, they鈥檙e fun to drive both on and off road, and parts are cheap. If you have a family, they aren鈥檛 ideal although different seats, soundproofing, overdrives and engine transplants make a difference. The Disco is a bargain and it鈥檚 easy to find ones even cheaper than our two grand examples. It鈥檚 hugely practical, family friendly and, underneath the skin, essentially the same as a Defender or Range Rover so it鈥檚 also cheap and easy to fix. But it doesn鈥檛 age as well dents, dings and faded paint can be shrugged off the Series III, but it makes a Discovery look a bit of a shed. However, unless you love welding, this s not a Land Rover for life. The Series III will continue for years with the odd anti rust waxing and a service here and there. An old leafer is the safest best you can get with Land Rovers.

Using Curiosity's design will help minimize mission costs and risks and deliver a rover that can accomplish the mission objectives. The 2020 mission proposed by the Science Definition Team would build upon the accomplishments of Curiosity and other Mars missions. The Spirit and Opportunity rovers, along with several orbiters, found evidence Mars has a watery history. Curiosity recently confirmed that past environmental conditions on Mars could have supported living microbes. According to the Science Definition Team, looking for signs of past life is the next logical step. Jack Mustard, chairman of the Science Definition Team and a professor at the Geological Sciences at Brown University in Providence, R.I. The measurements needed to explore a site on Mars to interpret ancient habitability and the potential for preserved biosignatures are identical to those needed to select and cache samples for future return to Earth. The Science Definition Team is proposing the rover collect and package as many as 31 samples of rock cores and soil for a later mission to bring back for more definitive analysis in laboratories on Earth. The science conducted by the rover's instruments would expand our knowledge of Mars and provide the context needed to make wise decisions about whether to return the samples to Earth. Jim Green, director of NASA's Planetary Science Division in Washington. Samples collected and analyzed by the rover will help inform future human exploration missions to Mars. The rover could make measurements and technology demonstrations to help designers of a human expedition understand any hazards posed by Martian dust and demonstrate how to collect carbon dioxide, which could be a resource for making oxygen and rocket fuel. Improved precision landing technology that enhances the scientific value of robotic missions also will be critical for eventual human exploration on the surface.

2.5 billion, made Ford the country's second largest provider of diversified financial services, ranking only behind Citicorp. An economic recession crippled U.S. 1990s, and Ford bore the brunt of the financial malaise that stretched around the globe. Domestically, car sales faltered abroad, particularly in Great Britain and Australia, Ford's sales plummeted. 99 million profit the year before. 3.3 billion in net income; however, the financial results of 1991 would have been worse without the company's strategic diversification into financial services. 2.25 billion loss for the year, an inauspicious record in Ford's nearly 90-year history. The financial disaster of 1991, however, was just a prelude to more pernicious losses the following year, as the global recession reached its greatest intensity. 7.38 billion loss. Although 1992 represented one of the bleakest years in Ford's history, the worst was over, and as the economic climate improved, the company emerged with renewed vitality. Against the backdrop of successive financial losses, Ford had increased its presence in the truck and minivan market niche, which represented the fastest-growing segment of the broadly defined automotive market.

The result is a visually compelling vehicle that couldn't be anything else but a modern Defender for a world that has changed massively since the original was created. New Defender's high sills, short overhangs and externally mounted rear wheel facilitate all conquering off road capability, its elemental yet sophisticated surfaces combined with a strong horizontal emphasis communicate the Defender's tough and purposeful character. Customers can also select from the widest range of accessories ever produced by Land Rover, including a choice of four Accessory Packs; Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban. These additional characters have been designed to give customers even more choice, all are compelling and equally desirable and demonstrate the ability of this vehicle to embrace different personalities without compromising the integrity of the overall vehicle design. At the rear the geometric forms of the distinctive high-tech lamps harmonise perfectly with the front end design. The sheerness of the rear vertically maintains the short overhang for a superior departure angle while maximising interior space and accentuating the vehicle's strong shoulder section.

The Mercedes can withstand VR10-level ballistic attacks or, in other words, attacks from hardened steel core bullets fired from an assault rifle. The Audi, meanwhile, is powered by a 4.0-liter V-8 (previous versions hid the glorious W-12 mill under the hood, but that engine is now confined to the history books) that鈥檚 good for 435 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. This translates to a top speed of 130 mph and a 0 to 60 mph time of under seven seconds or at least that鈥檚 what Audi says. Now, if you want even more room, you can always go for the cream of the crop, the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard that鈥檚 longer than long. For the pedantic, that鈥檚 256 inches in length or 42 inches over the standard S600. Yeah, you鈥檙e right, you will stand out when being driven around and about in one of those so don鈥檛 be surprised if you raise the eyebrows of an assailant or two on the way to your destination. 1,561,462 to be that inconspicuous. The only way to stand out, even more, is if somehow you bagged on a disused Cadillac One from the Secret Service鈥檚 annual yard sale.

The ruling council has stated that ExoMars is a top priority. Different press accounts suggest that the additional funds may be sought from the member states (which are already being requested for additonal funding for other programs) or from elsewhere in the science budget. 1B euro) science mission since NASA has declined to participate and help fund all three missions in competition. Editorial Thoughts: Today's press accounts leave many details unclear. Previous accounts, for example, have talked about the Russians providing additional landers beyond ESA's demonstration lander. There are also no specifics on which instruments will be carried by the 2016 orbiter or the demonstration lander. Maybe, finally, a capable seismometer will be delivered to the Martian surface now that the demonstration lander will have a long lived power source? I have always felt that the ExoMars missions are important to continuing the exploration of Mars. Methane in the Martian atmosphere is a mystery, both as to whether it is really there (data suggests, probably) and its source locations and orgins (geochemical or biological).

Here you will find the rankings of all the major automotive brands and corporations selling vehicles in the U.S market. Each month we compile the sales data and reports for North American markets and analyze it to create the best selling list below. Note that the data trickles in throughout the day early in the month and we will update you in real time as we get the data. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is the company that seems to have had the greatest improvements. Ford and General Motors both saw declines in sales for the month of December and the year. Subaru, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover and Tesla are the only other companies to have percentage increases for the month of December and the year. Daimler took the biggest hit in the month of December and YTD, suffering a 16.10 percent decrease in sales YTD when compared to last year. Tesla鈥檚 sales increases are directly tied to the fact that the company seems finally able to produce its Model 3 sedan at the rate it needs to. It will be interesting to see if it can keep production levels high. From a brand standpoint, it looks like brands that have focused their recent efforts on crossovers, SUVs, and trucks made the most sales. This is a trend that鈥檚 likely to continue as 2019 moves along. In this table, we take the year to date automotive sales and rank the top brands. We have also included market share numbers for the month and year to date to see relative results more easily. General Motors is now reporting quarterly. Figures displayed are the monthly average over the last 3 months (by total sell days). In this table, we take the year to date automotive sales and rank the top automakers. This is the corporation level results. We have also included market share numbers for the month and year to date to see relative results more easily.

Something to remember with practicing gratitude is to hold awareness for any guilt appearing. Recently I found myself becoming so upset at how selfish I thought I was, there are people out there with nothing yet here I am still finding fault in my own life. We could be fleeing civil war in Syria but instead we're worrying about how many likes our Instagrams get. It was pointed out to me that others' suffering does not undermine or discredit your own. An illness is an illness, suffering is suffering. You may have a broken leg, expressing gratitude for your leg will hopefully increase your happiness but you will still have a broken leg. This applies to all other hardships and aspects of your life. Gratitude can however give you a clearer mind and a more proactive mindset to help you take action towards healing your 'broken leg'. I am grateful for YOU. I am so thankful that you took the time out to read this. What is one thing you are grateful for today? Comment below how you express your gratitude. Please see below for problems still existing. This problem accounts for 2 visits to LR Midrand. The first time this problem occurred was the second day I drove the vehicle. ABS, Traction Control & Hill Descent Control warning lights come on simultaneously, indicating failure. Vehicle splutters at approx. 2500 rpm when it鈥檚 wet. No noticeable action taken. Please see below for problems still existing. Pickup pipe replaced. This was apparently part of a recall that was executed on the vehicle, but not executed correctly. Mass Airflow Sensor replaced. ACE high pressure piping bursts and sprays engine bay with highly flammable fluid. Single ACE pipe was found to have been rubbing up against another pipe and had burst. Vehicle towed to LR Midrand on flatbed. Approx. 1 week to diagnose and 1 week to repair. Torque converter casing cracks and fails. This is ongoing as the vehicle is still in your workshop. I have just spoken to Charlene. It appears that the warranty providers have not sent an assessor out to authorise the repair yet.

Detailed knowledge of the interior of Mars in comparison to Earth will help scientists understand better how terrestrial planets form and evolve. NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said. InSight will be led by W. Bruce Banerdt at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. InSight's science team includes U.S. The French space agency Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales, or CNES, and the German Aerospace Center are contributing instruments to InSight, which is scheduled to land on Mars in September 2016 to begin its two-year scientific mission. InSight is the 12th selection in NASA's series of Discovery-class missions. Created in 1992, the Discovery Program sponsors frequent, cost-capped solar system exploration missions with highly focused scientific goals. NASA requested Discovery mission proposals in June 2010 and received 28. InSight was one of three proposed missions selected in May 2011 for funding to conduct preliminary design studies and analyses. The other two proposals were for missions to a comet and Saturn's moon Titan. InSight builds on spacecraft technology used in NASA's highly successful Phoenix lander mission, which was launched to the Red Planet in 2007 and determined water existed near the surface in the Martian polar regions.

Therefore items such as doors, windscreen, some body panels, spare wheel, hood and the rear seats were not needed. The vehicle finally ended up as a chassis equipped with very a simple angular body with a narrow bulkhead (fire wall) and axles to fit in the Argosy. The body's aesthetic being determined by the need to cover the wheels and house the side lights/indicators with the head lights being placed in the grill Leaving a very stark looking vehicle. The hood, spare wheel, body sides, bumper etc. could be removed quickly in the field and flown on as a separate package, after the vehicle had been airlifted to the scene of operations. Rover didn't start to build the Series III lightweight until 1972 when it had cleared its outstanding SII orders for the MOD. It was at this point Rover began to offer the Lightweight to overseas buyers. And in time orders were received from Belgium, Brunei, Guyana, Holland, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Jamaica, Libya, Saudi Arabia and the Sudan.

Power rankings for 2018, ranked from the bad to the worst. Talk about a vehicle showing its true colors after a few years. When the Buick Encore hit the market for 2015, its J.D. Power Initial Quality and performance ratings were excellent. In its third year on the road, Encore owners revealed where it was lacking. Out of a possible five, Buick鈥檚 subcompact SUV scored a two for vehicle features and accessories. Those ratings matched Consumer Reports feedback for the same model year. Among the SUVs that got J.D Power鈥檚 worst score in 2018, only one got great marks (four out of five circles) for its engine and transmission: The Subaru Crosstrek. The small crossover also earned decent marks for body integrity and interior dependability. However, when it came to its features and accessories 鈥?everything from infotainment to HVAC controls and windshield wipers 鈥?Crosstrek was at the bottom of the pack.

You can do also online and look for other Planet 51 toys, like the 3 inch figures Chuck, Lem, the Mini Bump & Go Rover and the 3 inch soldier figurines. These toy soldiers are precise copies of the aliens of Planet 51. Then, as stated previously, you may select to add the mini vehicle figure 2-pack Military truck & tank toy. The military tank and truck toys are very well crafted and very sturdy. The toys look just like the ones that are used in the Planet 51 movie.

In the coming two decades, several space agencies are likely to have the technology to participate in the sample return. A second bet being made is to leave out a deep drill such as the ExoMars rover will carry. The drill proposed for the 2020 rover will collect samples five centimeters (about two inches) in length, similar to that carried by the Curiosity rover. This may not be deep enough to get below the surface radiation that is believed to destroy organic matter at Mars (see this post). The ExoMars drill was designed with this problem in mind and will reach up to two meters below the surface. Adding a similar drill to the 2020 rover would require a substantial modification to the Curiosity rover design isn鈥檛 possible within the budget. However, if the Curiosity rover doesn鈥檛 find organic matter and the ExoMars rover does but deeper beneath the surface, then the bet on the shorter drill will look problematic. Even with the current budget realities, though, the SDT has proposed a highly capable, exciting mission. NASA鈥檚 officials warmly received the recommendations, indicating that their final choices for the mission are likely to be similar to those recommended by the SDT, but some changes are possible. A key decision by NASA will be on whether to fund the sample collection and caching system and the sophistication of that system. Current news reports indicate that it intends to fly this system. The next step for the mission will be for NASA to issue a call to solicit instrument proposals this coming fall. The type of instruments NASA says it is interested in receiving proposals for is likely to be the definitive statement on the mission鈥檚 scientific goals.

That 鈥渁uthenticity鈥?comment is a small dig at the handful of firms that have been building their own Defender V-8 conversions for customers around the globe. Two of the more famous are Kahn Design in the United Kingdom and East Coast Defender of Orlando, Florida. While most firms typically pick an LS3 V-8 sourced from General Motors for their converesions, the Defender Works V8 comes with Jaguar Land Rover's own 5.0-liter V-8, in naturally aspirated form. The engine delivers 405 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque and will see the Defender Works V8 hit 60 mph in about 5.6 seconds. The top speed is 106 mph. This makes it the fastest and most powerful Defender ever launched by Land Rover. Along with the new engine, the vehicle also benefits from an 8-speed automatic, uprated brakes and handling kit (springs, dampers and anti-roll bars), plus exclusive 18-inch diamond-turned Sawtooth alloy wheels and 265/65R18 all-terrain tires. The interior has also been dressed with Recaro seats lined in leather, while the headlights have been replaced with modern LED units. Jaguar Land Rover Classic is also looking at offering upgrades for existing Defender customers. Among the items being considered are engine upgrades, fast-road suspension, and brake kits.

The Curiosity rover is exploring Gale Crater to examine soils from many eras of Martian history to determine whether or not environments for life existed and to determine whether biosignatures of past life remain. The 2018 ExoMars rover will explore another site on Mars for its astrobiology potential. The SDT has proposed that the 2020 rover continue the strategy and pursue astrobiology as the mission鈥檚 defining goal. Its proposed strategy breaks into two parts. The first is to have the rover carry a suite of instruments capable of a exploring site鈥檚 geologic history in-depth with an emphasis on how that history affected the possible presence of past life. The team proposes that the rover carry multispectral cameras for obtaining images and an imaging spectrometer for analyzing composition across entire sites. These instruments would provide the context to interpreting each locale鈥檚 history as well as allowing the science team to select specific targets for more detailed exploration. For most of the contact science, the SDT is proposing that the rover carry a new generation of instruments. Current Mars rover contact spectrometers measure mean composition over an approximately two centimeter contact area.

What鈥檚 Bad: Outdated infotainment unit. The big news about the MX-5 is that it鈥檚 been subtly updated for 2019, but the MX-5 is one of those special vehicles that has been carefully developed by its creators and has thirty years of history behind it. Messing with a proven formula can be a recipe for disaster. To undertake any improvements to the MX-5 required close examination because, well, no one wants to screw up this legendary sports car. And in Japan, making their successful roadster perform poorly would be a career-ender for the chief engineer. Where most vehicle refreshes today result in improved creature comforts or fuel economy, the updates to the 2019 MX-5 are engineered to enhance one thing: driving enjoyment. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine鈥檚 rev limit is bumped from 6,800 to 7,500 RPM and they鈥檝e accomplished this by lightening the pistons and connecting rods. Mazda鈥檚 also reshaped the intake ports and improved the fuel injectors. The net result is 181 horsepower at 7,000 RPM and 151 pounds-feet of torque at 4,000 RPM.

If you are near the store anytime soon stop in to see us. We would love to see you, buy you a coffee and pick your brain on how we could have improved the whole process. I brought my Range Rover here when my "inactive suspension" sign came on. When I first took it there, they inspected it and got it recalibrated. But as soon as I left, it failed again. Needless to say I had doubts about their ability and knowledge. I called immediately (after 6pm) and got the dealer manager. He then contacted the service manager. I received a call back right away and brought my car back the next morning. 6000 and that was with some help from them. They had my car off and on for about a month and a half. My previous experience with them was horrible. Land Rover should have been more discriminate in the people they hired to represent their product in the Calgary market, or at least retrained them to higher standards. 7/4/2014We just wanted to take a minute and thank you for your feedback Bruce. It's really great for us to get feedback that can help us improve. While we are committed to our customers, we know we don't always get it right! If successful, this may help ease any concerns about Russian capabilities. Mars' environment is different than that of the Moon, but the final maneuvers leading to a soft-landing on these worlds is similar. Thus was the American lunar Surveyor soft-lander a pathfinder for the later Viking spacecraft. ESA has indicated that its 2016 EDM (Entry, Descent and Landing Demonstrator Module) lander will play a role in preparing for its following ExoMars effort. Will ESA share its software and/or hardware developed for the EDM? In ESA's latest Quarterly report, there is this quote, 鈥淓SA will provide the computer to manage all operations except surface platform operations. The surface platform, being a Russian responsibility, will be operated using a Russian-supplied computer. The Rover will also feature an ESA-provided computer dedicated to Rover operations.鈥?Safely landing on Mars is perhaps the most difficult maneuver in the field of planetary exploration and reliable software is an important aspect. This division of computer labor could be a source of concern. ESA's EDM Mars lander, referred to above, will use yet another landing technology. In lieu of airbags or landing legs or a sky crane, it will utilize a crushable structure to attenuate the force of impact. They will not be throttled as were those on Surveyor, Viking, and the MSL Sky Crane. That capability is expensive to develop. We will see four spacecraft utilizing four different landing designs heading to the Red Planet in 2016 and 2018. It will be fascinating to see the results of this fleet of ships.

It gets a more dynamic and aggressive look with a bold grille that can be ordered with an option that lights it up while driving. The new model is longer and wider, though ever so slightly lower. Inside, it features new digital gauge and infotainment displays. A number of new driver assistance systems are standard, with a more advanced Driving Assistance Professional package available. Two powertrain options include the top-line X6 M50i, at 523 hp. A special Vantablack edition will be offered using the blackest paint ever developed. Honda E: There arent really all that many surprises when it comes to Hondas new, all-electric city car. Described as 聯perfect for everyday commuting聰 by Honda, the E gets by with a modest 35.5 kilowatt-hour battery that, at best, manages an estimated 220 km, or 137 miles per charge. But that should fit European lifestyles better than the U.S. Two electric motor options are available, the 152 hp upgrade capable of hitting 100 kmh, or 62 mph, in about 8 seconds.

The ad job market is very competitive and so you should try and get yourself a degree in advertising or in the specific area in which you aim to work. Such a degree will give you an edge over the others and your application is sure to be noticed! You must also well equip yourself by having a long list of internships with well known ad agencies to your credit. This will help enhance your value in the eyes of the employer as it will flaunt your experience in the field. It is also helpful because internships give you an idea about the kind of work you must do and your work environment! Not always can you get off to a grand start in your ad career. But the key to success here is that you must be open to all kinds of work in ads even it is a job with a lesser known ad agency.

It鈥檚 a similar story these days when shopping for luxury SUVs. Most are glorified cars, with about as much off-road capability as a pair of stiletto heels, yet those that peddle them, still like to associate their products with outdoorsy lifestyle. Then of course you鈥檝e got the Land Rover Range Rover, a vehicle that鈥檚 as much at home wading through riverbeds as it is trundling down Rodeo Drive or the King鈥檚 Road. Back in 1970, when it was first launched, it鈥檚 modern styling; all aluminum V8 and coil-sprung suspension defined what we now call a luxury SUV. Now in the twilight of its third-generation, the Rover continues to be what it always was, a shining example of a proper off-roader that packs sophistication and panache. 95,125 respectively, for 2010, it鈥檚 received a number of upgrades, including new engines, slight suspension changes, upgraded brakes and a revised interior, plus mild tweaks to the exterior styling.

The solar occultation FTIR spectrometer uses the bright light of the sun to detect trace gases in the atmosphere. Both of these missions would forgo the high resolution camera (and the near polar orbit that would optimize global surface imaging at the expense of an optimized distribution of solar occulations). The issue for carrying a high resolution camera is not just the cost of the camera. The camera requires an ultra-stable platform (no jittering of the camera allowed!), precise pointing capabilities, significant data storage, and a hefty communications system to send the data back to Earth. The 2007 reported noted, 鈥淯nfortunately, achieving spatial resolution of 5-10 cm, under current state of the art, increases both mass and cost significantly, and largely becomes the only scientific goal for MSO. Also, spacecraft stability could become the limiting factor in resolution rather than the telescope.鈥?Lower resolutions (even 1 M) bring similar problems. The MEPAG presentation doesn鈥檛 list costs for MSO-min or MSO-lite. 480M. It seems reasonable to assume that this represents a base cost estimate for an MSO mission with each additional goal met perhaps driving the cost incrementally higher. With the discovery of methane in the Martian atmosphere, MSO is likely to be a high priority. MEPAG may have a difficult time deciding when to recommend its flight. 400M to ESA鈥檚 2016 ExoMars rover. If it does, it seems unlikely that it will have funds to fly MSO in the same launch opportunity. In that case, it may be 2018 or 2020 before MSO launches.

You will need to substitute kettle for Cote Du Rhone for us that night, we decided to have some red before bed. I think we were setup a whole 30-60 minutes before the new campers and we were eating our grub. It was early, but the tent was warm, so we did not get out into the cold around the camp fire, it was getting windy and we decided to crash, so I put the radio on and snoozed. Rachel stuffed her spare clothes at the end of her sleeping bag to ensure in the morning they were not damp a good idea if you鈥檙e not 6鈥?1鈥? Mine however were in a bag. There are only two types of wind in camping, natural wind and food powered. This night it was proper windy, the weather forecast of -2c and 50mph winds were for once bang on. Now any hardened camper will tell you the very 1st time you camp out in bad weather you think you are going to die or the tent is going to take of and fly away with you in it.

I was happy to see that the original equipment I pulled out of my car (dated September 2006) was also a BEHR part with exactly the same part number. Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to test the part out of the car. Resistance measured across the terminals of the "bad" part pulled from my 2007 S80 was identical to the values I measured on the new part. It is possible that my fiddling with the connections, and reconnecting the battery twice, with different sequences of key position/start/etc., is all that was needed. Obviously, I'm leaving the new part in there. If you're wondering why I'm writing this in a land rover forum, there are so many common parts between the Volvo P3 cars like the S80 II and the Freelander/LR2, it's shocking. I'm working my way through a list of problems with this car. I believe several of these problems are probably common to the Freelander/LR2.

In other words - if you travel by plane, you don't get to look down on Hummer drivers. A single round-trip intercontinental flight more than negates an entire year's worth of commuting by bicycle. 47,000) and so we don't think twice about spending it frivolously, from household doo-dahs to vacations. And this segues me nicely into my next topic. The idea that in order to be a well rounded individual, to understand different perspectives, and be truly educated, worldly and insightful you have to travel is a form of elitism. It is essentially saying "if you have not had the opportunities I've had, you can not possibly be quite at my level. There is a form of insight I have which you never will". It is a form of hubris. When we send aid to small villages we are saying in a way: "You need help. You can't take care of yourself. We know the right way for you to do things". We Americans, wealthy and young and educated (and mostly white) come to offer you poor things some charity and advice.

An alternative might be to fly the sample cache mission in 2018 and the Jupiter Europa mission in 2020 (hopefully with their ESA counterparts). 6-7B between the two missions, leaving room for a couple of New Frontiers and Discovery missions. The majority of the remaining funds needed for the subsequent sample return elements would come from the following decade's budget. It's easy to be an armchair mission planner. There may be many reasons why this possiblity may be infeasible or unwise and there may be better alternatives. The Decadal Survey may also conclude that it wants to recommend just one (or no) multi-billion dollar missions in the coming decade, eliminating the competition. However, I have not seen a discussion of the question of whether or not results from the 2018 caching mission should be known before committing to the next sample return element. I hope that the Decadal Survey will consider that question as it reportedly is considering whether to recommend either or both of these two large missions.

Have you had an oil pump fail on a 2000-2004 Land Rover V8? At Robison Service, we are seeing pump failure more and more. Last week we encountered a 2003 Discovery with a failure I have not seen before. The car came to us with an oil light on most of the time, and lifter noise when the light was on. The noise vanished as soon as the light went out, confirming that the car has a problem with oil pressure, and not a problem with the oil light sender. This engine is reasonably clean, and free of sludge. This wasn't a neglect issue. We removed the front cover, and found the oil pump fractured. I have seen several similar failures in the past year, but most of the time, when we get them, the engine has already blown. This one had not. The outer gear of the pump had fractured into four pieces.

Answering these questions can require devilishly subtle measurements. On Earth with the best instruments available (far, far more capable than those that could be flown to another planet), concrete answers are hard to come by and debates rage about the earliest conditions on Earth. The Mars scientific community has collectively decided that the best and perhaps only way to answer these questions is to return carefully collected samples to Earth for study in terrestrial laboratories. Placement of the just announced instruments on the 2020 rover. To see how the instruments selected will work together towards this goal, imagine that you were sent to Mars and given the assignment to select a small set of samples to return to Earth. Because you can return only a few samples, you are under pressure to find those few special samples that can best reveal insights into the earliest history of Mars. The first thing you are likely to do is to look to see what types of terrain and rock formations surround you.

I also think that the idea of an infinitely reusable suite of contact instruments on an arm is powerful. Caching samples is less compelling to me. Before the flight of ExoMars, we won't know, for example, how important it is to acquire samples from deep beneath the surface. What happens if the site you dedicated a rover to sample turns out not to be the one you want to return samples from? And will Europe and the U.S. For me, the more compelling sequence of missions is to study several locations with science oriented rovers such as ExoMars and MSL. Then, if funding for a sample return comes through, fly a rover dedicated to acquiring samples followed by the return vehicle. If budgets or landed weight limits restrict the 2018 to a single rover, what I think would be compelling would be to add an arm with micro-scale contact instruments to an ExoMars rover. The arm and its instruments would be relatively light (20 - 25 kg?) become a complete subsystem that can be developed and supplied by NASA, simplifying the development interfaces.

It has been estimated that the prices of all Toyota cars are to be changed in the upcoming future. Land Rover and Range Rover are considered to be the most expensive cars in the world. They both cost around 1.5 crore to 3 crore rupees. The brand Mercedes has also released some of the most expensive cars in Nepal. Mercedes cars prices can go as high as 2.5 crore rupees. Mercedes is a luxury car brand in Europe and is known all around the world. Subaru is a well-known luxury car brand in Japan. The Out Back model of the car is priced at around one crore 20 lakh rupees and is placed in the SUV segment. It is a petrol car which is available in Automatic and Manual variants. The Forester model of Subaru car was priced more than one crore rupees some months ago. The price has now been dropped to about 92 lakh rupees. It is available in 2000 cc and manual and automatic gear models. Mazda is also a Japanese luxury brand and falls among one of the most expensive cars in Nepal.

Everything has been going pretty smoothly so far, mainly as I've been cutting off the bolts where possible, rather than persevering trying to undo rusted nuts. Anywhere the grinder can't get; I've hit with the air impact driver, which has had my tiny air compressor working overtime. Floor removed. Haven't found any rust in the chassis yet apart from the bulkhead outriggers, which I already knew about. Gear lever is seized, will sort that out when gearbox is stripped. Wiring loom disconnected. It hasn't been hacked up like I thought it would have been. Some additional wiring has been added for the LPG system, but luckily it hasn't interfered with the factory wiring. Next job is to remove the bulkhead, still debating how to go about it. Two people can comfortably lift it, but I don't know if I have the patience to wait until the weekend to get someone to help lift it. I'm considering lifting it from the garage roof beam (should be OK, wouldn't think it weighs any more than 80 - 100kg) and then rolling the land rover back. I've started compiling a spreadsheet of all the parts i'm going to need to buy. I've found a few sites online which have pretty good prices and a good search system that allows you to search using to original LR part numbers, which i get from the genuine parts manual i found online. I printed it and had it bound, along with the LR repair & operation manual.

The redesigned XJ is expected to be revealed in 2020 and so far Jaguar has only confirmed battery-electric power, but hybrid powertrains are also expected. And it won't just be the powertrain that's expected to change. Jaguar had been debating whether to return to a more conventional 3-box sedan shape for its next-generation XJ or stick with the current model's coupe-like design. The automaker at one point was even thought to be going with two distinct body styles for the car. It seems Jaguar will now focus on a coupe-like design, which is probably a good move as the design will help further distinguish the car from its German rivals. And going the electric route should also keep the car relevant in a segment that's seeing buyers switch to SUVs. But what about those buyers, especially in China, looking for a roomier option in a flagship sedan? That's where sister company Land Rover will apparently fill the void. The new 鈥淩oad Rover鈥?model that we've been hearing about will reportedly be developed alongside the redesigned XJ, and this one should be roomier as it will be something of a blend between a sedan and SUV. The XJ nameplate carries a lot of history. First introduced in 1968, the XJ quickly became the world鈥檚 only mass-produced 4-door car with a 12-cylinder engine. It was also the fastest 4-seater of its time. In addition, the XJ has carried royalty, politicians, celebrities, and other important figures for over half a century. Unfortunately, sales dropped off sharply in recent years. Jaguar sold just 1,579 examples in the United States last year, which was one of the lowest results in decades.

More likely, it would be the alteration of rock or soil chemistry in a way that would be best explained by complex organic chemistry or the actions of life. Again, if we were lucky, it could be the presence of organic matter preserved for billions of years. The rover would seek biosignatures using all of the instruments listed above and with one or two instruments that would be selected for their ability to detect organic material. The Viking and Phoenix landers and the Curiosity rover (and the future ExoMars rover) have relied on sophisticated analytical instruments such as mass spectrometers to detect organic molecules. These instruments are capable of much more sophisticated measurements than is possible with contact instruments that must operate directly in the harsh Martian environment. Analytical instruments have soil samples delivered to them where they can be analyzed with numerous techniques and altered through heating or wetting to release gasses or induce chemical reactions. Unfortunately, the budget for the 2020 rover does not include funding for analytical instruments.

Corrections: Since original post, I've learned that there currently is no plan to include a descent imager to record the landing as was done for the Curiosity rover. I also accidentally used an image showing the cameras on the Mars Exploration Rovers Spirit and Opportunity instead of Curiosity, and this has now been corrected. The second in a series of meetings to select the landing site for the Mars 2020 rover is in progress. At these meetings, the project's engineers describe the engineering capabilities and constraints on the mission and scientists describe their favorite sites for the rover to explore. Final selection of the landing site is several year away, but these meetings are good ways to catch up on the current plan for the mission. You can find all the presentations for this meeting here. The Mars 2020 rover will carry a new generation of instruments to explore Mars.

The biggest problem when you鈥檙e trying to reinvent a famous product? Often it鈥檚 the very owners and fans that made your brand legendary in the first place. That鈥檚 the trouble Land Rover faces, as it prepares to release a totally new Defender in September. It won鈥檛 be anything like the old one, which we think is actually a good thing. Last sold in the United States back in 1997, the Land Rover Defender now enjoys an almost mythical status among 4x4 enthusiasts. They鈥檝e seen its iconic silhouette on Instagram. They鈥檝e seen these rigs traverse raging rivers during the Camel Trophy competition. Because it was also sold here in very limited numbers, for only a handful of years, Defenders also now command extremely high prices in the used market, often selling for several times their original value. All that has combined to create a huge level of anticipation for the new Defender, which Land Rover is currently showing in pre-production form, wearing a light disguise, in the run up to its fall release. But while this new model will reference the old with some design elements, key details also reveal a vehicle that couldn鈥檛 be more different than the old one.

Both Martin Cox and Mike Moran have taken two wins so far this year and presently, allowing for dropped scores, the crews are level pegging so it will be 鈥榳inner takes all鈥?at Walters. 鈥淲e鈥檝e fitted a new scrap yard special engine for the final round,鈥?said Cox. 鈥淎t 300ish bhp it鈥檚 not as powerful as some out there but it is enough to do the trick and have some fun. We鈥檝e also fitted a new windscreen after damaging the old one being towed for five miles. The tow rope is still fitted to the car just in case! Moran debuted a new gearbox at the previous round and he used it to good effect, taking a final run win after Cox鈥檚 problems.

First, the team uses orbital observations to select the locales it would like to visit. Rovers on Mars follow a hierarchical strategy for selecting a small number of targets for in-depth exploration. The SDT described their proposal for the 2020 mission in terms of fulfilling four goals, and I鈥檒l present their recommendations for each of those four goals. The 2020 rover would follow a hierarchical strategy to explore a location on Mars believed to have been habitable. The definitive identification of past signs of life is likely to require the testing of returned samples in Earth laboratories. Every NASA landed Mars mission - except the 1996 Pathfinder mission that focused on technology demonstration - has had the goal of exploring Mars鈥?past and current potential for life or pre-biotic chemistry. For the MER rovers, the goal was simply to determine whether water - an essential ingredient for life - was present at the surface early in Mars鈥?history.

We all know the situation Kia faced at the turn of the millennium, decreasing sales and at the same time it cannot escape the stigma that it had faced during the period of the sub-compact Pride. While the Rio was cheap and a breath of fresh air (it was developed independently, not anymore based on a Mazda platform), quality is thumbs down plus the dominance of Japanese makes placed this car out of oblivion. The second generation model, launched in 2006, was an improvement but was relegated to the taxicab crowd thanks to a somewhat basic interior and some marketing push. The UB Rio debuted first at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011, which for the second time shares its platform and engines with the Hyundai Accent. While both sedan and hatchback models were available, a three door hatch was released for this generation. For the Philippine market, the third generation Rio was first made available in the form of the 1.4 EX sedan in January 2012 with the lower 1.2 LX and hatchback a month later. Later variants for the sedan were added in 2013 covering both bases.

2.37 billion) every year for the next five years in new products. Grace told China Daily in an interview at the Chengdu Motor Show. Like most of international luxury carmakers, Jaguar Land Rover already offers long wheelbase model in the Chinese market, a version of the Jaguar XJ. Grace said that the company plans to double its number of dealerships next year in western China, "an area that we expect to see significant growth". Jaguar Land Rover has sold nearly 27,000 vehicles so far this year in China, an increase of 60 percent over a year earlier. China is now the third-biggest market for Jaguar Land Rover worldwide, and is about to become the second largest, the company said. Nearly 6,000 orders have been placed for the new Range Rover Evoque since pre-sales began in April. Grace estimates that China's luxury car market will grow more than 20 percent this year, much faster than the 5 percent growth in the overall auto market. He also noted that the luxury SUV market will increase even more, a segment that the Land Rover brand is well positioned to tackle. Grace said with confidence.

1.5 billion proposed for this year. Delaying the Europa mission prevents a bulge in spending requirements. For the rest of this decade, NASA鈥檚 new mission spending is dominated by the expensive Mars 2020 rover. The budget proposal also shows sharp budget increases late in the decade for the Discovery and New Frontiers programs. Launching the Europa mission by 2022 as mandated by Congress would require either greatly increasing overall planetary funding or cannibalizing other programs. Discovery and New Frontiers missions to the Flagship Europa mission. Experience has shown that large Flagship mission are more likely to have large cost overruns that play havoc with NASA鈥檚 budget. Countering this, the generous money that Congress has provided the mission so far as matured the design much more than is typical at this stage of development. That maturity makes cost overruns less likely. Europa isn鈥檛 Mars, and studying and eventually getting humans to Mars is NASA鈥檚 current overriding goal. Pure politics. Several of the Congressional leaders who are strongly backing the Europa mission and planetary exploration in general are highly conservative politically.

Last year I wrote a story about the frame rust that is beginning to cripple Discovery II trucks that run in snow country, particularly the 2003-4 models. Today I am pleased to show a new and more affordable alternative. Rovers North has begin selling rear frame sections that replace the last two feet of a Discovery II frame. You don't see much damage from a distance but when you look close the rear frame rails are totally destroyed. This happens because the rails are thinner than older Land Rovers, they are not protected inside, and they are designed in such a way that gravel can get inside. When that happens, salt water from winter roads soaks the gravel and the mix just eats the frame from inside out, but luckily only in the gravel spray areas behind the wheels. In some cases the shocks towers corrode, weaken and break. We see other issues like that but the main failure is what you see above - rot in the rear two feet. We remove the gas tank for safety and access.

The new wider and soft front seats are decadent, providing intense heat and 25 different massage programs. Even the armrests are heated. Rear-seat space is abundant, especially in the long-wheelbase models, which have enough rear legroom for a couple of Shaquille O鈥橬eals. It isn鈥檛 easy designing an SUV that looks both rugged and elegant, one that is understated but sexy and imposing, one that looks rich and expensive but falls short of ostentation and pretension. It isn鈥檛 easy but somehow the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover pulls it off. It鈥檚 a fantastic-looking thing, with slab sides, large glass and short overhangs. It's also surprisingly compact, with even the long-wheelbase model being only as long as a Chevy Traverse. The crease linking the headlights and taillights, which slices through the door handles, and ultimately underlines 鈥淩ange Rover鈥?on the SUV鈥檚 unique clamshell tailgate. Step up to the HSE model (our choice) and you get the Panoramic Roof, Oxford perforated leather, 14-way-power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, 20-inch wheels, a more powerful supercharged V6, and other features.

Land Rover LR2 Engine Whine and Poor Acceleration. Land Rover LR2 Engine Whine and Poor Acceleration. Hey guys, I drive a 2012 Land Rover LR2 with 50000 miles on it. I had drove 8 hours from one city to the other and all was smooth. After arriving at the hotel, I went to drive my car again for a quick 5 minute trip to the store when half way through the drive on the highway, I notice the engine has a whine coming from it. When the car is in Drive, you start hearing it past 1500 rpm, but when its in Park, you don't hear it at all. It also won't accelerate past 35-40 mph. There are no warning lights, no engine lights, no error messages popping up on diagnostics. I've taken it to 3 repair shops to no avail as they can't check the transmission due to Land Rover having a gear box transmission or something. Anyone have any clues as to what this is or experience it before? It's probably worth checking the diff, gearbox and transfer box oils. The LR2 is called the Freelander outside the US, which will probably help you find useful information. I'm a bot. Downvote to 0 to delete this comment. The whine makes me think of an alternator issue. Not sure though. My LR3 had a distinct whining sound and I just replaced the alternator last night - everything back to normal now. Could be the PVC pipe. I just took mine in and that was causing the engine to whine and overheat.

It鈥檚 clear that the President鈥檚 budget officers really don鈥檛 want to fund a mission to Europa. Other than that, the proposed Fiscal Year 2017 budget submitted by the President last week to Congress would be great for planetary exploration. The submission of the Fiscal Year 2017 proposed budget is just the opening move in getting to what will be NASA鈥檚 actual budget for next year. The proposal itself is the result of negotiations between the budget managers in the President鈥檚 Office of Budget Management and the space agency鈥檚 senior managers. Most of the proposed NASA budget is a simple continuation of the 2016 budget. In the few areas like Europa where the administration and Congress differ on policy, though, there are significant changes from this year鈥檚 budget. In the next step in the process, committees in the House of Representatives and the Senate will make changes to portions of the budget to reflect their priorities and then will negotiate their differences. Eventually a spending bill will be passed and signed by the President.

On the recommendation of my Rover parts guy, a jovial Brit called Trevor who lives in Arkansas but used to live in Maine and operates the "Rovah Farm" parts house, I went for a brand new replacement "gear" starter. These are devices designed to give more and faster turns of the engine, especially in cold weather, which would probably make life a lot easier in winter. A sun-and-planet gear is used along with a modern motor to provide high rpm and greater turning power. A new old stock or reconditioned original Lucas-type starter was equally expensive, so it would be silly to opt for inferior but original equipment. The new one is the shiny bright thing on the left. The nasty old black Lucas starter is on the right. Unfortunately, once installed and despite the shine, the new starter wouldn't work. I pulled it out again and bench-tested it with our spare shop battery, a brand new truck-size unit, and it worked fine, so I put it back and tested the cables one-by-one. It was while testing the cables that I finally noticed my multi-meter was over-reading.

Discovery owners will recognise the multifunction steering wheel and the chunky switches and dials. Touchscreen sat-nav is standard, while the driving position is lofty and comfortable. However, the Freelander can鈥檛 match the Nissan for interior space or practicality - for starters, there鈥檚 less cabin stowage, the rear doors are short and the back seats offer fractionally less legroom than the Nissan鈥檚. More importantly, the Land Rover鈥檚 boot trails its rival鈥檚 by 200mm in length and 90mm in width, while a high lip makes loading difficult. So the Freelander won鈥檛 appeal to families as much, and is some way behind the class leaders in terms of versatility. That could be because the designers have spent all their time working on refinement. The Land Rover scores very highly on this front, and from behind the wheel you get the same feeling of relaxed isolation as you do in the Discovery. The 2.2-litre TD4 diesel is quieter at idle than the Nissan鈥檚 powerplant, while good sound insulation means it鈥檚 hushed at speed, too. Our test model was fitted with the optional CommandShift six-speed auto, but the excellent manual mode allows you to hold the car in each gear. While the automatic gearbox has a smooth shift, in the real world it feels less responsive. And the Freelander is slower to react dynamically, too. It鈥檚 nose-heavy compared with the X-Trail, and the long travel suspension compresses much more under load, meaning greater roll in corners and dive under braking. It runs its front wider in bends and works its tyres harder as well. Nevertheless, the supple suspension means the Land Rover rides comfortably. With few vibrations penetrating the cabin, it鈥檚 effortlessly composed and very relaxing to drive. Add this to the feeling of quality, and the Freelander comes across as belonging to the class above. The problem is, its high price means it nearly does.

If you had sales agents that were under-performing, you would try to help them improve their performance or get rid of them. The same holds true for videos you send out into the big bad www-world. Setting up a system so that evaluation or performance tracking can happen is very important, but first you must decide what it is you want to track and why. Video SEO Evaluation: Did it work? In order to ask the question: 鈥淒id it work? 鈥?you need to have a clear understanding of what success means. Is it enough to know that thousands of people have now been exposed to your name/brand but that is all? Is it enough to see the traffic to your website increase even if orders do not? What is success for you will not be success for someone else. Only you can define what success is for your situation.

The rover will search for organics on the surface at a second location after NASA's Mars Science Laboratory and will analyze samples gathered from up to two meters below the harsh surface. On the other side of the Atlantic, the proposed cuts to NASA's planetary program are creating more of a ruckus than I remember for any science program since the cancellation of the super collider. Press accounts of the dispute are common, including a substantial piece in the New York Times. Key Congressmen have sharply questioned NASA's management over the proposed cuts and have blocked the administration's proposed cuts to the planetary program for the current budget year. In the US, approved budgets are the law of the land and cannot be changed by the administration without approval by the appropriate Congressional committees. It is common when a new budget proposal seeks a new direction for the adminstration to ask for and receive permission to reallocated current funding to reflect the expected change. Press accounts suggest that the key tradeoff in Congressional deliberations will be between funding for commercial manned spaceflight systems and planetary exploration. The adminstration proposed substantial increases for the former and cuts for the latter. Congress' priorities appear to be the reverse, suggesting a heated debate between the two branches of government.

The Lambo press release says the Roadster's attachable wind deflector delivers "almost complete calm" at higher speeds - like there's anything calm about raging around in an Aventador. As is the case with the roof panels, the deflector can also be stowed in the front compartment when the top is back on. The Aventador Roadster also gets its own launch color, a new metallic blue dubbed Azzuro Thetis, whose color and shade varies, depending on the angle and intensity of the light. The color reportedly was inspired by the 1968 Miura Roadster concept shown at that year's Brussels auto show. The Roadster also gets special interior enhancements, specifically liberal use of leather called Sabbia Nefertem that Lambo says complements the Azzuro Thetis sheen. Being a Lamborghini and an Aventador, the experience is first and foremost about performance, and the Roadster will not disappoint -- at least in a straight line. Sending its 691 horsepower through Lamborghini's integrated shifting rod, seven-speed, automated single-clutch manual transmission to all four wheels, 0-60 comes in fewer than 3 seconds, with a top speed of more than 217 mph, according to Lamborghini. The Roadster's unique 20-inch front, 21-inch rear Dione forged aluminum wheels also help shave some 22 pounds over the Aventador hardtop's wheel/tire setup. We've driven and tested the coupe version of the Aventador several times over the past year, most notably during our 2012 Motor Trend Best Driver's Car competition. While approximately no one who buys the Aventador Roadster is necessarily worried about how it furiously belches out greenhouse gases, Lamborghini has applied state-of-the-art technologies make its big bull as efficient as possible. 407,000, not that its price matters to the folks with the cash to actually buy one.

On the other hand, InControl infotainment needs updates. For the 2020 Range Rover Evoque engine lineup is the same as before. There are two versions of the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Both are using a turbocharger. For the base and Convertible crossovers, there is a 240 hp and 250 lb-ft rated unit. It sends power through a 9-speed automatic transmission. The full-time all-wheel drive is the only mode for 2020 Range Rover Evoque. Auto gearbox offers manual control through paddle shifters. For Dynamic and Autobiography versions of the upcoming Range Rover Evoque, we have a stronger engine. The same unit is capable to deliver more power, and engineers are tuning it to burst 300 hp. It is a 14 hp improvement from current 286 horses. At the same time, torque will go over 300 pound-feet. After the revisit, the 2020 Range Rover Evoque will be able to stop the clock under 6 seconds for 0-60 mph sprint.

Styling is less of a departure, and simplicity and elegance are keywords. The grille was toned down to be more friendly, and the added length gives the Range Rover a suitably regal stance. The lighter body helps bring sterling performance. The launch model's 375-horsepower V-8 was as quick as the old supercharged version, at 6.5 seconds to 60 mph; the supercharged SUV's 5.1-second trip to 60 mph competes with Jaguar's XJR. Fuel economy is pegged at a 9-percent improvement. Off-road performance remains unparalleled鈥攖here's full-time four-wheel drive, an air suspension, a maximum of 12.2 inches of ground clearance, and available automatic Terrain Response that selects traction modes based on conditions, from mud to snow to rocks to pavement. Towing capability remains at 7,700 pounds maximum. The big Range Rover comes standard with two LCD screens up front; an 8.0-inch touchscreen handles infotainment on the center stack, while a 12.3-inch widescreen displays digital gauges.

It would be desirable to explore several of them with rovers. NASA and other space agencies could fruitfully spend a decade or more sending rovers to interesting spots on Mars. The rovers also could collect and cache samples for a future MSR. For as long as MSR missions have been studied, a parallel goal has been to place a network of stations around the Martian surface. Continuous measurements of seismic activity, meteorology, and heat flow from multiple stations would address key questions about the interior and atmosphere of Mars. Rovers and network stations require an orbiter to act as a telecommunications relay if significant amounts of data are to be returned. The Mars Odyssey and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) serve that role now. Mars Express and MAVEN can also acts as relays, but they have highly elliptical orbits that reduce their effectiveness for this role. NASA seems to believe that it needs to put a new, highly capable orbiter in place every 8-10 years to ensure a high probability of an operating orbiter being in place. Once an orbiter is added to the roadmap, the question becomes which science instruments to also add.

Voted up, IA, pinned to AH, and sharing. Thank you Barbara, for your comments. Yes we are blessed and it is a good thing Dad knew what to do. Thank you Au fait, I really appreciate you and all that you do. Thank you for the comment, votes up, sharing and pinning. The wedding was nice, had a good time made new friends from the Land Rover Club. They say to not even go to Mexico now. Your story is scary indeed. God was taking care of your family that day. It was a good thing your Dad thought quickly. Giving this another share. This is an experience that could happen to anyone and I think it makes sense to be alert. Voting this up AUI, and sharing. Also pinned to AH. Hope you guys had a good time at the wedding and that all is well now. Thank you Aunt Jimi, for your comments, votes and sharing, This was truly scary. 6 years ago from The reddest of the Red states! This is a scary story and I've decided with Halloween so near it might be a good story to share on that scary occasion.

With that in mind, the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder options ought to be just as good. 27,000, that鈥檚 pretty affordable by our account. Maybe a little less exciting than the Camaro, the Chevrolet Cruze is beginning to shed its former rental car self for something a bit more enthusiastic. What鈥檚 a new Fiat without an aggressive Abarth version soon after? Taking cues from its cuter 500 cousin, the 500X compact crossover could wear the Abarth badge sometime in the next year. One of the most talked about cars of the last quarter, the Fiat 124 Spider will officially come to market in 2016. It uses the Mazda Miata as its base, and features a uniquely Italian design. We鈥檙e also expecting an Abarth version sooner than later. The GMC uptake continues thanks to the arrival of the Canyon and Sierra pickups in 2013. But GMC execs want more鈥攕pecifically CEO Duncan Aldred. He hopes that the introduction of a CUV (similar to the Buick Encore) will be a home run for the brand.

Land Rover Range Rover sees no major changes. Land Rover's flagship SUV seats 5 and comes in HSE and Supercharged trims. Both models use a 5.0-liter V8 engine. The HSE has 375 horsepower, while the Supercharged has 510. A 6-speed automatic with manual shift gate is the lone transmission. Range Rovers have all-wheel drive with low-range gearing for off-road use. Also standard is Land Rover's Terrain-Response system, which has a console switch that enables the driver to change suspension and powertrain calibrations to accommodate normal driving, slippery pavement, mud, sand, and low-speed off-roading. Hill-descent control is standard. An electronic adaptive suspension is standard on the Supercharged and optional on the HSE. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, and curtain-side airbags. A navigation system, rearview camera, front- and rear-obstacle detection, and wireless cell-phone link are standard. An optional Luxury Interior Package for HSE models includes heated and cooled front seats with 14-way power adjustment, upgraded leather and wood interior trim, auto-dimming exterior mirrors, and 20-inch wheels. An optional Vision Assist Package includes blind-spot alert, steering-linked adaptive headlights, and a "Surround-Camera" system that shows the driver nearly the entire circumference of the exterior on the navigation screen. The Supercharged's Autobiography Package includes an infinitely variable locking rear differential, blind-spot alert, surround camera, 4-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, heated and cooled reclining rear seat, specific interior and exterior trim, and DVD entertainment. COMPETITION Consumer Guide Automotive places each vehicle into one of 18 classes based on size, price, and market position. Typically based on mainstream Large SUVs, Premium-Large SUVs are super-sized luxury liners. All are powerful, pricey, and extremely thirsty at the pump.

Painted black, it looks particularly sinister, but brighter colours highlight the SUV鈥檚 styling details a lot more. Power comes from a variety of sources, including a turbodiesel 2.0-litre four (180 horsepower), a turbo gasoline 2.0-litre four (296 hp) and a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 (335 and 375 hp). There鈥檚 also a limited-edition SVAutobiography edition with a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that belts out 543 horsepower. It鈥檚 worth nothing that the diesel engine will be canned after the 2019 model year in Canada. We took the Velar P380 R-Dynamic HSE for a one-week test, equipped with the most powerful version of the force-fed V6. It鈥檚 connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. It can blast from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds and reach a governed top speed of 250 km/h. With the proper equipment, towing capacity can reach 2,400 kilograms or 5,291 pounds. For an upscale luxury SUV costing as much as the Velar (more on that later), we can鈥檛 imagine purchasing it with a four-cylinder mill, but that鈥檚 just us.
