Kimble, who previously competed in rallying, will return to motorsport after a break of 14 years. After making his debut at Bovington Andy Price is planning on contesting a full Freelander season this year. Before Bovington Price had not done any competition driving and he had not even driven offroad but he took his Freelander to a class win. 鈥淚 spent two season servicing Freelanders in the BCCC and I really wanted to drive in an event,鈥?said Price. 鈥淚 was able to get my standard Freelander ready for Bovington in just two weeks and the event was amazing. To top it off I got a class win! 鈥淚鈥檝e done a lot of work to the car over the winter including strengthening the front end and upgrading the suspension. My aim for the season is to finish every event and hopefully push for a few trophies once we鈥檝e got the car set-up sorted. I know I鈥檓 a rookie and the competition will be tough, a lad has got to dream though! The event will take place in Myherin forest with access to the site gained via 鈥淭he Arch鈥?picnic area. The action will start at 10am on Saturday and will go on to around 5pm with Sunday鈥檚 runs starting at 9am. The event is expected to finish early on Sunday afternoon.

I've read some reviews about servicing car here and it sounded terrible, but I want to be clear that my 5 star review is for my experience purchasing a vehicle from out of state. Brad was out of the office for family emergency, but he still texted me back and forth and even contacted Daniel to hold the car for me. He made sure I was taken good care of from start to finish. Since I knew the market for the car I wanted, I was serious to close same day. Brad was able to work with me to make it a win for everyone. I negotiated the price with Brad, then I immediately called the bank and got my pre-approval shortly after. At first, Brad attempted to have me submit a credit application with the dealership. Once I had the pre-approval, Daniel attempted it, as well. But I don't blame them.

Ok, I started tearing down my 1960 109 Land Rover. For awhile now I have been sourcing parts mainly trying to find a solid bulkhead(firewall) to replace the rotted out one. I think I may be on to one but am awaiting notification that it is available. In the meantime I decided that since I needed to replace or repair the bulkhead that I might as well get along on doing some of that work. The Kodiak heater was mounted on the engine side of the rotten footwell so that had to go. In order to remove it I needed to first remove the right side front wing(fender). It looks like it had not been off since the Kodiak had been installed. Every thing was rusted together or rusted thru! I pulled the passenger side door with its rotten door top. My neighbor Bob helped me with some of the hard to reach stuff since my arms were not long enough to go around the wing.

My curiosity would have got the better of me and I would have gone for a start - pinhole or not. Well we thought about it and then decided that the best course of action would be to make sure that everything was good before carrying on. We are going to remove the radiator and have a local company have a look at it, they repair a lot of oilfield equipment and are willing to take a peek, it can't hurt. Well the moment of truth arrived at about 1720 our time (MDT) when we tried to start the engine and it went like a charm. Engine runs like a clock but now I have to read the owners manual to figure out how the air suspension works, as this photo shows, I have not got a clue, also registering/activating the IIDTool, tomorrow will be busy! Very well done - congratulations.

So after lots of hammering, drilling, hammering on my hand, grinding the welds I got the footwell out. It took 6 hours to remove the heater and footwell. I removed the footwell because I have read that one should do that first and weld in the new one so that bulkhead remains lined up and doesn't get warped. Now I need to know if I am going to weld in the new footwell or just replace the bulkhead. Last Friday I took all the bolts holding the roof to the sides out. I am ready to take it off then strip the sides off. The roof will need to have the rivets drilled out and the skin to gutter seal replaced. I want to insulate and cover the inside of the roof and the sides while they are off. Once I have the top off I can remove the windscreen and the seatbase and rear tub.

With the cooling system reliant on the bonnet being fixed in place Cooke decided to retire. Lofthouse continued to dominate the event, setting the fastest time on each run to win by over three minutes from Cox. 鈥淲e had no problems at all,鈥?said Lofthouse. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a good weekend and the car has been perfect. I enjoyed the tussle with Tim on the first day but once he had retired we backed off a bit to preserve the car. Cox equalled his best-ever BCCC result in second place. 鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 keep up with the young guys but the retirements have given us a good result,鈥?commented Cox. 鈥淭he car was pretty faultless, the power steering had some issues which meant it wasn鈥檛 operating as well as it should but other than that we had a troublefree weekend. Toby Jefferson, who had former BCCC driver Gordon Monaghan in the navigator鈥檚 seat of his James Law Chemicals-supported GSR, took his best ever BCCC result in third.

The 2010 Mazdaspeed3 is the performance version of the Mazda3. Mazda has kept the turbocharged engine from the previous generation, but the car looks dramatically different. The Mazdaspeed is only available as a hatchback. The Speed3's grille is more exaggerated than the Mazda3 and has a lower air dam and flared front fenders. The hood has a wide scoop to funnel air through the car's high-mounted intercooler. Big dual tailpipes and a rear spoiler at the top of the liftgate spruce up the rear of the car. The 18-inch alloy wheels are unique to the 'Speed3. The Mazdaspeed shares its overall interior design with the regular Mazda3, but has red accent stitching on the shift boot, steering wheel and seat fabric. Other red treatments appear on the door panels and sport seat inserts. An LED turbo-boost gauge appears between the speedometer and tachometer. The Mazdaspeed makes 263 horsepower and 280 pounds-feet of torque with the turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard. The Mazdaspeed is front-wheel drive. The springs and the shock absorbers are now firmer than they were in the previous generation, with the steering rack now secured in three rather than two places. The Mazdaspeed has an electric steering pump with conventional hydraulic assist. This improves the efficiency of the previous generation's mechanical pump without sacrificing steering character. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake assist are standard, as is an electronic stability system with integrated traction control. Airbags include frontal, front-seat side impact and side curtains.

After asking employees for suggestions about what the company should do, Odeo founder Evan Williams gave Jack Dorsey two weeks to develop a prototype for his short messaging idea. Twitter was soon born. The same is true for all of us. Unlike previous generations, people now change jobs every few years and, according to researchers, will even switch careers up to six or seven times over a lifetime. That鈥檚 a very different world than previous generations. Little bets must become a way to see what鈥檚 around the next corner, lest we stagnate. Q: What surprised you most in what you found? A: One of the things that constantly surprised me was how many similar approaches and methods spanned across the vastly different fields. Story developers at Pixar, Army General H.R. McMaster, a counterinsurgency expert, and Frank Gehry use the same basic methods and of course make lots of little bets. They even use similar language and vocabulary - like "using constraints" or "reframing problems"- but they all learned their approaches through their experiences, not in school. Q: What companies are best at little bets? A: Amazon, Pixar, Apple, and to a lesser extent Toyota, 3M, and Google have little bets infused into their cultural DNA. Q:What鈥檚 the first step any of us can start taking tomorrow to start benefitting from a little bets approach? A: Commit to making a little bet. It doesn鈥檛 matter on what. Look for interesting problems and work toward larger aspirations. Maybe it鈥檚 going to be a presentation about starting a new nonprofit. Or maybe it鈥檚 trying a different approach for a work meeting. Once you get into the habit of making little bets, they can constantly open up new possibilities that just might lead to something big.

This was one of the reasons that the new Discovery became the first Land Rover to be offered with a rear locking differential. Another big change was the fitting of full independent suspension (FIS). Like the Series III Range Rover, this was an air suspension system, which allowed the ride-height of the vehicle to be altered by simply pumping up or deflating the air bags. The vehicle can be raised to provide ground clearance when off-road, but lowered at high speeds to improve handling. FIS had been seen as inferior to the older beam-axle when off-road due to its tendency to make the vehicle bottom out. Land Rover developed 'cross-linked' air suspension to solve this problem- when needed, the suspension mimics the action of a beam axle (as one wheel drops, the other rises). Further more, if the chassis of the vehicle contacts the ground when the suspension was at its 'off road' height, the system senses the reduction in load on the air springs and raises the vehicle an extra inch. In the UK and European markets, a coil-spring independent suspension system was offered on the base model.

The Epynt military ranges will be the venue for the next instalment of the battle for the Britpart MSA British Cross Country Championship crown next weekend. Epynt is a popular venue for motorsport with a network of tarmac roads that are used for several rallies. The land also includes several miles of gravel forest tracks which were most recently used by the world championship crews in Wales Rally GB. The opening round of the championship took place at Pikes Peak last month and it was Richard Kershaw who took a commanding win in his Milner R5 ahead of Ian Rochelle. Rochelle鈥檚 car suffered several problems over both days of the event causing him to be down on his usual pace. Dean Sutcliffe and his team have been hard at work fixing vehicles since round one. 鈥淲e鈥檇 got to within 100 miles of the venue when the truck broke, we had no option but to get recovered all the way home and start the journey again,鈥?said Sutcliffle.

Or take the Louisa Barbara case. Under an 1819 federal law, a ship could only carry a certain number of passengers based on its weight. The Louisa Barbara violated the limit by carrying 178 passengers鈥攐ne more than it was authorized to carry. Yet the federal government proceeded to seize the entire ship. Federal courts were unmoved by the owner鈥檚 defense that many of the 178 passengers were children. Stories of similarly harsh civil forfeitures fill Indiana鈥檚 brief in this case. Yet, as Indiana convincingly argues, no litigant even thought to argue that such forfeitures implicated the Eighth Amendment鈥檚 excessive fines clause. This history is what makes this case so hard for someone like Neil Gorsuch. If he follows the history and tradition of the Eighth Amendment to its logical extreme, the excessive fines clause would have nothing to say about an excessively harsh civil forfeiture. So, according to this thinking, Indiana could have seized Timbs鈥?vehicle due to its involvement in small scale drug trafficking even if it was the tawdriest of Ferraris. The court should acknowledge that both understandings of 鈥渇ine鈥?are plausible鈥攐ne that includes forfeitures and one that does not. Readers like you make our work possible. Is the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque a Good Used SUV? For the majority of luxury subcompact SUV shoppers, a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque will not be a good option. Its sloped styling adds to the vehicle鈥檚 sporty look, but it hinders rearward visibility, cargo space, and rear-seat access. Additionally, the 2016 Evoque has a worst-in-class reliability rating. While it has athletic handling and is a decent off-roader, its harsh suspension isn鈥檛 ideal for daily driving. Our used car rankings and reviews are based on our analysis of professional automotive reviews, as well as data like crash test scores, reliability ratings, and ownership expenses. Non-finishers included Ian Bartlett who rolled his car on the final run of day one and Andi Skelley who had electrical problems on his new Milner part way through day two. In the Trophy championship Paul Harris took the win in his Bristol Street Motors-supported GSR Maxilight ahead of Alan Thomas which meant he retained the BCCC Trophy title. 鈥淚鈥檓 over the moon to win the title again, I didn鈥檛 think it鈥檇 be possible to win it twice. Matthew Morgan won the Freelander Challenge category with Nick Lines in second. In the Clubman class Jon Damrel was victorious in his Land Rover Tornado. Chris Bird led the Clubman event after the first run with a time that was quicker than the BCCC crews but his event ended with a broken diff on run two. The 2014 championship will start in April with details expected to be announced at the Autosport show in January.

Acceleration is adequate overall, aided by a smooth and responsive automatic transmission. Land Rover claimed 0-60 mph acceleration in 8.4 seconds, but LR2 doesn鈥檛 feel that quick. The LR2 lacks solid midrange punch and struggles a bit up steep grades. Fuel economy is passable. A test LR2 averaged 20.2 mpg. Land Rover recommends premium-grade fuel. Few compact SUVs ride better overall. The LR2鈥檚 soft suspension with long wheel travel absorbs big ruts and dips but allows mild pitching. There鈥檚 minor thump and jiggle on sharp bumps and rippled freeways, but the structure itself feels stout. Stable and well planted on-road feel is the rule, though LR2鈥檚 tall body leans more than we鈥檇 like in fast turns. Also, steering is a tad sloppy and slow. One test model鈥檚 brakes felt touchy at times. The Terrain Response system and generous ground clearance provided sure passage on tricky off-road driving courses, despite the fact that this vehicle lacks low-range gearing. Land Rover鈥檚 engine is a bit loud at full throttle, but sounds nice and is unobtrusive otherwise. Wind rush is moderate at highway speeds, and some tire thrum is noticed on grooved or coarse pavement. Gauges are large and legible.

The New Hyundai Santa Fe provides some of the strongest evidence yet that the Koreans are coming. Hyundai also appears to be ahead of the game in the design of this New Hyundai Santa Fe. The MPV world has long realised that you don't have to drive something the size of a container ship simply because you need seven seats. However, the news appears to have slipped by SUV designers, despite the fact that a large proportion of the sales of these cars go to people looking for a rather more stylish alternative to a people mover. The company has spotted a huge gap in the market between compact, five-seat recreational off-roaders such as the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan X-trail, and big seven-seat barges like the Land Rover Discovery. Priced and sized to split the difference between these two classes, and available with two third-row seats for an extra 拢600, it is into this space that the Hyundai Santa Fe neatly, not to say somewhat opportunistically, dives. Climb into the New Hyundai Santa Fe after you've admired its impressive contemporary exterior appearance. The Santa Fe is not without its surprises, and perhaps the biggest comes when you fire up the engine. This New Hyundai Santa Fe is a very affordable Family 4x4. We have 3 silver due instock mid November and look at our prices.

A new Configurable Terrain Response system debuts in the 2020 Defender, giving more driver control over off-road tuning for the rig. Center Slip Limited and Center and Rear Slip Limited controls for differentials are also standard. Settings allow control over throttle, gearbox, steering, and traction control responses, or these can all be ignored with Auto mode for those less interested in that kind of tuning. Having a lot of capable gear on board is one thing, but powering it well enough is another. Land Rover has included new P300 and P400 powertrain options for the Defender. The P300 produces 296 horsepower (221 kW) from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The P400 upgrades to a six-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system for a total of 395 horsepower (295 kW). Both engines mate to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and twin-speed transfer box for four-wheel drive. Land Rover has also debuted a new braking setup on the 2020 Defender with an actuator-controlled piston system. It locks wheels at lower speeds in about half the time of conventional braking systems, adding more control in off-road situations. 49,900. The smaller wheelbase Defender 90 will come later in 2020 with a price point announced closer to launch. Land Rover also plans to offer several one-off accessories for the Defender beyond the packages offered.

Land Rover has dominated the luxury SUV marketplace for years, as they continue to offer increasingly impressive car models. Although at first primarily used for tough off-roading and agricultural usage, Land Rover is now known for its extravagant features and state-of-the-art systems, along with the exceptional durability and performance capabilities that it has maintained throughout the years. Land Rover offers both Land Rover and Range Rover models, however, many people question what the actual difference is between the two. They certainly resemble one another, have similar names, require a generous payment, and are both manufactured in Britain. So, how are they different? Ultimately, Land Rover is a brand, while Range Rover is a model created by Land Rover. They are not separate companies, but the same company manufacturing different models. Land Rover is the name of the brand, and the Land Rover vehicles, which includes the Range Rover, are simply subsequent models.

With over two months still to go until the opening round of the 2013 Britpart MSA British Cross Country Championship interest in Britain鈥檚 premier off-road racing series has been high with several crews planning a championship assault. After missing the 2012 championship Dan Lofthouse will return this year in his Jaguar-powered Lofthouse Freelander. His car has had a rebuild over the winter and it is expected that he鈥檒l be one of the drivers in with a shout of the championship title. Another driver turning to Jaguar power for 2013 is Warrington鈥檚 Mike Moran. Karl Gudgeon is planning to contest the full season in his GSR Evo X while Adrian Eason-Bassett will combine the doing the BCCC in his Range Rover with some events in Iceland. Eason-Bassett has undertaken extensive work on the car since it was last out including fitting a new BMW engine. After finishing 9th in 2012 Richard Green will again be competing in his Bowler Tomcat while Stephen Smith will continue in the Renault Clio that he debuted last year. New Zealander Nick Lines will be defending the Freelander Challenge title and he will face competition from Chris Ratter who will also be contesting the Challenge after recently driving in the Dakar Rally with the Race2Recovery team. The championship kicks off on the weekend of 20/21 April at the popular Pikes Peak venue in mid-Wales.

When deciding whether to purchase a warranty separately you need to consider the reliability of your car. Warranty Direct have gathered data from millions of pounds worth of claims every year to compile the 'Reliability Index', a complete guide to the reliability of cars on the road today. One interesting finding is that 25% of cars suffer mechanical failure at some point between its 4th and 5th year on the road, just as the manufacturer's standard warranty expires. However, huge variations in reliability do exist, as illustrated by our five best and worst performers below. Ford come in at number 5, with Suzuki and Honda at positions 4 and 3 respectively. Honda with its 'The Power of Dreams' slogan appears to live up to its word with a highly reliable range of cars. Mazda comes in second place, with Skoda, perhaps surprisingly, the most reliable car make on the road today. It wasn't long ago that Skoda was ridiculed for being extremely unreliable and hard on the eye, but they've worked intensively on the reliability of their cars.

The Jaguar Land Rover recruitment process starts with an online application form, which includes the option of uploading a CV and covering letter - we recommend you take up this opportunity. The next steps are some online tests and an assessment centre, which will involve a number of activities and interviews. This advice will help you with both your covering letter and your interviews. Jaguar Land Rover recruiters will use your covering letter to get a better picture of your experience, reasons for applying and what type of employee you might be. Your CV will support this, too, but the cover letter is your chance to elaborate and inject a bit more human being into your application. Briefly describe the main career goal you plan to work towards if you become a Jaguar Land Rover graduate. In reality, it鈥檚 your covering letter that makes your strongest points stand out. It also enables you to give examples to make you even stronger in the eyes of Jaguar Land Rover recruiters.

鈥淭he new Tremec sequential gearbox was built by Lofthouse Motorsport and ACR Deeside with the assistance of PPG and it completely changed the way the car drives,鈥?said Moran. 鈥淲e鈥檝e looked at every element of the car to give us the best chance of taking the title. 鈥淲alters last year was a disaster for us, we cut a corner early on and hit a boulder which broke the steering rack and ripped the front tyre off as well as nearly rolling the car. Behind the two championship contenders there promises to be a close battle with three crews presently separated by just three points. The event is likely to be the last time the Bartletts Racing Bowler will be seen in the BCCC. Team navigator Aaron Burch commented: 鈥淲e鈥檝e had a great season in the car and have thoroughly enjoyed each event but we are itching to be racing the 206 again next year. In the Freelander Challenge the title race is between the Race2Recovery team and Ian Linford. In March 2000, BMW announced plans to restructure and sell substantial parts of the Rover Group and threatened to close Rover completely. In response the government brought together local actors through the West Midlands Regional Development Agency (RDA) and Government Office of the West Midlands (GOWM) by setting up the Rover Task Force (RTF). After a local consortium purchased Rover, and Land Rover was sold to Ford, the RTF focused on modernising the auto cluster, diversifying into other clusters, and a regeneration programme linking cluster policy with spatial targeting. This paper assesses the role of the RTF as a response to the crisis and explores to what extent regionally based cluster policies are likely to succeed, using the RTF as an example. Whilst the RDA and GOWM were in a sense able to use the RTF to legitimise and adapt their emerging clusters policy, there have been a number of advantages arising from the RTF鈥檚 work. However, there are limits to what a resource-constrained RDA can achieve given the fragmentation of policy delivery in the region, given trends in the auto industry and given the tensions with and incompatibilities of central government policy. The case also raises the critical issue of coordination of regionally based cluster policies where the cluster in question clearly crosses administrative regional boundaries.

The Discovery Sport will also get the upgraded underpinning to allow the electrification from 2020. The new Evoque will, on the other hand, switch to the new Premium Traverse Architecture. The mid-updated Discovery Sport will also boost the interior design and features to stay neck to neck with the class newcomers. Some reports claim that model will come with the multiple screens infotainment system following the pattern of the Velar model but other reports claim the Touch Pro Duo setup won鈥檛 arrive in the refreshed model. Still, the model will get upgraded infotainment features and the center stack. As for the for the engine options the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport should get the revised and cleaner diesel units outside the US. The improvements in ride and performance should also hit the US version but no exact details yet. The current US version exploits a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine available in two versions. The base version delivers 237 hp and torque of 251 pound-feet. A more powerful version provides 286 hp and 295 pound-feet of twisting. The 9-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive are also part of the deal. The plug-in hybrid version when arrives should integrate the 1.5-liter combustion engine. It should also be the case with the new Evoque. The updated 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport will go on sale later in 2019. The debut should take place early in the year.

Land Rover Discovery Series II -- The Discovery model was introduced in the States in 1994, and again, was something different from what Americans had seen from Land Rover before. Easily distinguished by the unusual raised roof, alpine windows, and roof rack, the Discovery bridged the gap between the utilitarian Defender and the luxurious Range Rover. Although there was generous head- and legroom, the SUV's tall and narrow proportions resulted in poor shoulder and hip room. It would be one of the first Land Rovers to be marketed as a family vehicle, although it lacked much of the comfort and conveniences typical of a family car. In the Series II Discovery model, Land Rover claimed it had made 720 changes. The interior and exterior were reworked to be less utilitarian, while still staying true to its predecessor's styling. The rear body was also extended to improve load space. However, in making the Discovery more of a family ride, off-road capability was compromised by the increased rear overhang. The Discovery served as a stepping stone for the eventual LR4, which more evenly balances family life with off-road capability.

Justin Birchall returned to the Britpart MSA British Cross Country Championship in style as he took a win in the opening round at Pikes Peak. Blue skies and sun greeted the crews as they got their cars ready on Saturday morning but by the time run one started snow was falling around the course. It was Birchall who set the fastest BCCC time on the opening run in his Lofthouse Freelander, three seconds ahead of the Milner LRM-1 of Ryan Cooke. In third was Ben Duckworth who was using a Milner R5 as his usual LRM-1 was not ready. Birchall continued to set the pace throughout day one and he held a lead of over two minutes overnight. Other BCCC crews didn鈥檛 fare so well on day one. Steve Smith, who had flown in from Dubai the day before the event, didn鈥檛 even make the start on run one after problems with his Clio.

Four-corner independent suspension with extra-long wheel travel, air springs, and automatic leveling provides a poised highway ride, sure handling, and practically unstoppable off-road mobility. Nine airbags, a body structure designed to absorb energy during a collision, and head restraints configured to help protect against whiplash injury are just three examples of the Range Rover鈥檚 comprehensive safety systems. Two new engines with superior performance were introduced for the Range Rover line last year. The flagship鈥檚 Supercharged and intercooled DOHC 4.2-liter V8 delivers 400 bhp, a 35 percent gain over the previous V8. The 420 lb.-ft. of available torque, up by 25 percent, provides effortless passing acceleration and quiet highway cruising. The Land Rover HSE is powered by a sophisticated 4.4-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 engine delivering 305 bhp and 325 lb.-ft. Extensive measures are taken to assure that these engines perform reliably during off-road extremes. They鈥檙e well protected from rock damage, water and dust ingestion, and oil starvation while driving at steep angles. Special throttle calibrations are in place to provide the driver with sensitive control of the torque delivered during low-speed off-road treks. Summing up the Range Rover鈥檚 merits, Beattie notes, 鈥淲hat makes this Land Rover a Range Rover is its sheer breadth of capability. This SUV inspires confidence even in trying circumstances. There鈥檚 effortless performance for daily driving as well as deep reserves available when adventure calls. The refinements added during the past two model years have raised the bar far beyond the reach of any competitor. The two Range Rovers are more sophisticated and technically advanced than any product we鈥檝e offered in the past.

At this point the the bell housing indentation looked factory stock but was three inches wider on the right side. The new edge of the indentation comes to the edge of the Kodiak heater mounting flange. The heater did not need to be moved or modified from it's original location. The end result as a indentation about 25 inches wide. This is plenty for a small block Ford or Chevy but a GM 6.2 V8 diesel will need an indentation about 29 inches wide which will require taking a couple inches off the already narrow left side foot well. The other option is having the engine sit forward of the stock indentation and use a Defender front radiator support and bonnet. The Ford or Chevy bell housing needs more clearance along the bottom edge of the bell housing indentation than the stock Rover one does. The horizontal flange that goes into the passenger compartment was cut out. One inch of metal was cut out of the bell housing indentation along the top of this cut and the flange was welded back into place.

The car was filled up again but the engine let go just after the start line of his final run and Cox had to be towed out of the course. The resultant maximum dropped him down the leaderboard and gave the win to Moran. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a great weekend and it is a privilege to race at a venue usually used by our Armed Forces,鈥?said Moran. 鈥淭he course was phenomenal with a good mix of fast, extremely fast and rough sections. The car performed well, our new gearbox was only finished on Thursday night and it has transformed the car. Powell continued setting good times on day two to take second place in his Simmbugghini, his best ever racing result. 鈥淚鈥檓 elated with second place, it鈥檚 a great result for us especially as we鈥檙e in a beam axle car rather than an independent. I enjoyed the course, it was certainly a tough test of man and machine. Mark Jacques was another driver achieving a personal best result, overcoming shaft problems on day one to finish in third.

We stopped at one near Arden, getting out of the Land Rover just before torrential rain started falling; we took refuge under the stand鈥檚 awning while munching on homemade tarts. It was odd to be welcomed with a hearty 鈥淢orning, y鈥檃ll鈥?- the student who normally worked the stand was off with an injury and so a family friend had driven up from Tennessee to handle the berry season. The blueberry tarts were good enough that we bought some lemon ones for dessert. Near Madoc, we stopped and turned around to pose the LR2 in front of Land Rover Salvage. It was closed for the weekend, but I called owner Dominic Perodeau a few days later. Born in England, Perodeau brought his Land Rover with him when he moved to Canada, but had difficulty finding parts. Locating a few for his own use led to so many that he started selling them. 鈥淭he business started in 2003, when I bought an old GM dealership in town, and then I built a big shop at my house and ran it out of there,鈥澛?he says. I started poking around some of the older vehicles out front, until the rain started up again, and we went back on the highway. I simply preferred it because it鈥檚 a lot more scenic and a slower, more comfortable pace - perfect for a more leisurely day鈥檚 drive between the two cities.

Several visitors to my blog have enjoyed reading about how I removed the running boards from my 2015 Land Rover LR4. One such reader has asked about the vehicle's appearance with the running boards removed - prior to installing any rock sliders. Luckily, I have a few photos to help illustrate that case. I had mentioned in my earlier post that when the rocker panel trim is reinstalled (snapped back into place), the body panel is slightly visible where the trim has factory cutouts for the running board mounts. This leaves a small sliver of body panel visible, mostly when you are viewing from a low position (crouched), or from a greater distance. That sliver is more visible if the body panel paint contrasts with the black trim. This is the case with my red car. I don't think this would be noticeable to anybody except the most observant LR4 fan. The photo above shows those trim cutouts, as seen from below after removing the running boards. Those odd heat sinks are more visible than the exposed body panel sections. Here's a closeup of that last image, with a better view of that sliver of red body panel. I don't have any photos with the doors open. The heat sinks are not visible with running boards or rock sliders installed. UPDATE: Apparently the aluminum parts that I've been calling heat sinks are not heat sinks, and are meant to function as crumple devices in conjunction with the OEM running boards. This is the group wisdom from LR forum users, who also indicate that these can be removed after removing the running boards (aka side steps). They do appear designed to carry loads from the running boards to the frame. Since I failed to remove them, maybe they'll work similarly for my sliders.
