At least it doesn't hold revs like cars with CVTs. There are downsides to driving like a Range Rover, too. Despite all of the aluminum, this is still a 2.5-ton SUV. Most of the time, it hides its weight well, but occasionally an off-camber corner or uneven road will really make the 400e wallow like a drunk on the teacup ride at Disneyland. It's not as composed as some lighter or sportier SUVs, so you have to dampen your speed a bit. The ride is on the firm side, too. Engineers had to stiffen things to account for the extra weight from the battery out back 鈥?200 pounds more than a V8 and 500 pounds more than a V6. I'm a die-hard Series, AND Defender fan. But I really like this. And it certainly is not a sort of Discovery/Range Rover mish mash. I like the throw back to the open storage and grab handles in the front - soft roader? I like the huge load space, perhaps even better than my current Defender, especially with the side boxes now gone, and a big flat floor. I think the use of the satin film is a great idea - no worries about paint damage. I think the wheel and tyre options are geared to offroad rather than on-road, but if 22s flick your switch, there is a market there as well. There is much more to like than dislike, and there will always be subjective matters - that is what makes us individuals. For instance, I personally dislike intensely leather seats, so I'm very grateful that fabric is available.
