The Range Rover Sport has slotted so neatly into Land Rover's line-up and proved so popular that it's easy to forget that it's only a recent addition. Originally available with a diesel and two petrol engines, Land Rover has replaced the mid-range 4.4-litre petrol engine with a torquey but less thirsty twin-turbo 3.6-litre V8 diesel unit. It is the introduction of a new twin-turbocharged V8 diesel, replacing the 4.4-litre V8 petrol and its fuel consumption of less than 20mpg, which has really set the Sport's ball rolling. Following its arrival Range Rover Sport sales increased by 52 per cent. To compliment the slicker looks and a slightly more ground hugging profile on the exterior the sports ethos is carried over inside, too. A sportier, compact driving position with a raised centre divide and gear-lever platform is less stately and more aggressive than in the Range Rover. It carries less of an air of grandeur and more of an air of purpose.

I enjoyed reading "Collaboration - How Leaders Avoid the Traps, Create Unity, and Reap Big Results" by Morten Hansen. Unlike many management books, this one isn't another tomb of nice ideas and suggestions. It presents some field-tested approaches and defines what the author names disciplined collaboration, offering actionable direction and advice. Hansen identifies 4 barriers to collaboration, and offers ways of spotting them in your organization: the not-invented-here barrier, the hoarding barrier, the search barrier, and the transfer barrier. Then he outlines 3 broad levers for attacking these barriers: unify people, cultivate T-shaped management, and build nimble networks. Because I'm lazy, I won't try to explain the work in more detail. There are already several well written reviews on Amazon. I will say that I liked a couple points quite a lot. I've personally seen manifestions of the not-invented-here and hoarding barriers. I also think that his T-shaped management approach would go a long way in improving collaboration. He suggests holding people accountable for how well they collaborate using measurable metrics included in their performance reviews and compensation.

The problems that the lemon law used as cause for recall included problems with the pressure monitoring system, vibration noises, a locking cable that malfunctioned, leaks in the gas tank, and fuel injection issues leading to stalling out. In Wisconsin a new vehicle has to meet the standards of the service warranty or be fixed before the 12 month service warranty elapses or within 12 months of delivery to the motor vehicle buyer. Just for repairing the defective part, manufacturers face a lot of financial losses. This is especially true due to the fact that the refund or replacement vehicle has to include the cost of any taxes, finance charges, or any other charges. The only amount allows to be deducted is due to the vehicle being used, but this has to be reasonable. When trying to make the vehicle conform to service standard, a manufacturer only gets four attempts. These attempts are made after the automobile has been unusable for 30 days at the most. If more than 30 days go by following the customer informing the manufacturer of a defect and the manufacturer of dealer do not buy back or replace the faulty automobile, then the Wisconsin lemon law has been broken. Upon refusing to obey the statutes of the lemon law, and being charged with a breach, the company will face the punitive statute of the lemon law. The Wisconsin lemon laws were put into place as a way of protecting motor vehicle owner rights. The rights are guarded by forcing automakers to put higher standards on their quality controls. In addition to protecting vehicle owner rights, the law has effectively lowered the emotional stress, annoyance, and the financial losses which were being suffered by the owners due to their defective vehicles.

Although the Great War had begun in 1914 it was not until 1917 that the United States entered the war. Henry Ford had been a prominent supporter of the 鈥淜eep America Out of the War鈥?movement but once the United States was committed to entering the fight he realized he would need to supply what his nation demanded. 390,000 Model T鈥檚 were made and sold to the US Army, of which 15,000 saw service with the American Expeditionary Force (A.E.F.) in the war in Europe, and without doubt they served to help secure its speedy end. Generally speaking the Ford Model T served remarkably well during the Great War and was generally much appreciated by those who manned them, and those who were rescued by them. I shall not want another. It prepareth a breakdown for me in the presence of mine enemies. I fear great evil when it is with me. Its tank runneth over.

That series of prototypes were the Road Rover and they were essentially a station wagon (estate car) body mounted on a Land Rover chassis with Land Rover suspension and mechanicals. The thinking was to create a car suitable for travel in Africa and Australia where country roads frequently became off road tracks. In 1967 under the headship of Charles Spencer King who had been apprenticed with Rolls-Royce and had worked on Rover鈥檚 JET1 and T3 gas turbine experimental cars, work began on the new car. The engine of the new vehicle was to be the all alloy Buick V8 that had demonstrated itself to be so excellent in the Series II that the President of Rover USA had helpfully sent over. Creating the bodywork presented some dilemmas. The Range Rover was to remain largely unchanged for the next nine years until Land Rover Limited were finally able to break away from the trouble-prone British Leyland Corporation in 1979. Only then were improvements and new models created. The first of the Range Rovers were made as a two door only up until 1981 when the four door was added.

The Range Rover Sport's compact dials and neatly designed switch packages might come as a shock to anyone expecting something more utilitarian or agricultural. The switchgear is all very 21st century and mostly integrated into a crowded but easy to navigate centre console. The pedals, steering and gear select are very light to the touch, and the rest of the knobs and buttons have an impressive solidity to them. The Range Rover Sport's plush leather, well placed adjustable driver and front passenger armrests and myriad of luxury touches mean it's as comfy as they come. The engine mounts have been specially developed to dampen the diesel unit's vibration and combined with the cabin's impermeable sound deadening make the SUV superbly quiet and refined inside. Auto headlamps and memory seats are standard on the TDV8 HSE. It's no surprise that the Range Rover Sport features cutting edge security technology such as an ultrasonic alarm and autolock on drive away function, but the car's beefy stature lends itself to security also.
