As a result, my friend doesn鈥檛 want to buy the old model. He wants the new one because it鈥檚 more eco-friendly. Although he doesn鈥檛 realise it, he has a point. And I鈥檓 absolutely certain that his argument about the new car being more eco-friendly than the old one won鈥檛 wash even a tiny bit. In north Oxford a Range Rover of any sort is the devil. I鈥檓 regularly told by people there that cars caused the hole in the ozone layer, usually when they are getting something from their trendy old fridge, or applying some deodorant. The other day, someone even blamed the motor industry for deforestation, even though the only car company still making its cars from wood is Morgan. And I hardly think a cottage industry making 17 units a year in Malvern can be blamed for all the logging in southeast Asia. However, because there is so much claptrap floating about in the ether, a company such as Land Rover must feel like it鈥檚 under siege. And that鈥檚 before we get to the rather more important question of fuel consumption.

The LWB version of the Range Rover adds an additional 7.8鈥?between the axles (122.8鈥?, which results in an overall vehicle length of 204.7鈥?(7.9鈥?longer than the standard Range Rover). The added length shows up in the cabin as 7.3鈥?of increased legroom in the second row, further improving the Range Rover鈥檚 functionality. An already luxurious cabin becomes limousine-like. Visually, it鈥檚 easy to distinguish the LWB edition of the Range Rover from the standard wheelbase version. The second-row doors have absorbed the additional length. This may have unintended consequences, as the second-row doors are now heavier and longer than before, and require more swinging space to open fully. You have to find a wider parking spot to avoid having your rear passengers dinging the sides of the car next to you. Of course, the true executive knows to wait until the driver opens the door from the outside, allowing unfettered egress to the curb.

If you鈥檙e reading, Mr Bloggs, none intended. Feel free to correct me. It鈥檚 a curious mix, the Defender: in some ways far easier to drive than the Range Rover Sport, and in others, a nightmare. Well, it鈥檚 a massive 283mm narrower, has far superior visibility and a clutch pedal that, despite spindly appearances, is just that bit easier to modulate than the creep function in the eight-speed automatic Rangie. The biggest issue is the turning circle, which, as with the huge, thick-rimmed steering wheel that鈥檚 writhing merrily in your hands as the Defender clambers over the rockery from hell, is lorry-like. Yet with no Terrain Response other than the nut that holds the wheel, it never gets stuck either. Once TR2 makes an appearance on the next Defender, that 鈥榖est 4x4xfar鈥?tag might have to make a comeback. Inside, there鈥檚 more noise, more vibration, but it鈥檚 not unwelcome. After the Sport, the Defender just feels miles more appropriate a vehicle to tackle rough stuff in. While the Sport says 鈥榣eave it to me, I鈥檝e got his covered鈥? the Defender is more of a 鈥榠f you鈥檙e on form, we鈥檒l make it through this together鈥?sort of character. Like the paddleshifters versus stick-shift sports car debate, it鈥檚 another interesting angle of the manual versus automated trend. And although I鈥檓 not at all disappointed that the new Porsche 911 GT3 is PDK-only, offer me another spot of green-laneing and I鈥檇 take the 1940s-derived Defender workhorse, if you鈥檙e asking.

After the approval of the Defender, had a 鈥淒efender 130鈥? although the wheelbase remained unchanged. North American Specification (NAS) Defenders sold between 1993 and 1997, said 鈥淟and Rover鈥?no 鈥?0鈥?or 鈥?10鈥?number to call. Continuing on from the release of Australian SIII Stage 1 Isuzu 4BD1 diesel variant, Jaguar Land Rover Australia (JRA) developed an Isuzu 4BD1 (See List of Isuzu engines) diesel powered 110 for sale as Australia only consumer product. In 1993 Land Rover launched the Defender in the North American market. Powered by 300Tdi engines, xD has a very strong chassis, and fiber cloth around the joints welded in the chassis and around stress points massively increase the load capacity. The xD was available in both the Defender 90 and 110 and forms known British Army Land Rover Wolves. The 110-inch (2,794 mm) soft or hard tops, which are used for patrol, communications and supply activities. 90XDs are less common, but often ordered as soft top or hard top cars for light and communications networks. In 1992 the first edition of the special Land Rover Defender was made.

Land Rover LR2 Pricing, Specs, Safety

Land Rover LR2 Pricing, Specs, Safety

The Land Rover LR2 is a vehicle that maintains its tough driving legacy, and it does so with style and grace. The 2015 edition is a four-door lavish crossover. It has room for five and three trim levels. The SUV is a practical choice for families and those who prefer road height when they drive. The automaker did not make one for 2019. This is an SUV that handles itself well on the pavement and when you ask it to tackle tough driving conditions. It features a well-insulated cabin that makes occupants feel safe and pampered. It also comes with a clean control layout, one with few buttons and plenty of storage space. The cargo area is good and large, while the convenience and tech features are abundant. This auto is not as able to drive across uneven land as well as vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler. However, the Rover LR2 will easily take you along most off-road trails. The steering also feels a little disconnected.

Take a look at this core from a 2006 Land Rover LR3. There鈥檚 nothing obviously wrong from outside, but when we cut the core open we saw a different story. The whole far side of the core is clogged. Only the left side of the core remains open. You might think that would cause weak heat, but it actually created a different problem. This Land Rover - like many other late model cars - has separate temperature controls for the driver and passenger. The air that blows through the core is sent to the left and right sides respectively, so with one side clogged we had normal heat on the passenger side, and virtually no heat for the driver. This seemed like a control problem but it wasn鈥檛. When heater cores clog the repair is often a big deal. In this Land Rover the whole dash had to come out for repair, as you see. Jobs like this can run into multiple days of labor, and cost thousands of dollars. And this is no place to cut corners looking for a low bid - this is detailed work.

With this type of power, the newest Defender should be able to go just about anywhere. Both these engines will probably be paired using a 6-speed manual-transmission gearbox instead of an 8-speed automatic one. Just like its predecessors, the newest Defender will have an all-wheel-drive system as the norm. There鈥檚 also a rumor about a sports model for its newest Defender, that is believed to have a 5.0-liter, supercharged V8 engine capable of producing as high as 550 horsepower using 500 lb-ft of torque. No official announcement regarding exact release date but the newest car is planned to be shown in 2013 and sold this past year. These are that which we know thus far concerning the 2020 Land Rover Defender. The newest Defender will continue some things from the predecessor while at the same time game many improvements. Also, it鈥檚 likely that it鈥檒l use search engines that provide an amazing driving experience.

The 2010 Devon GTX was introduced today on the famed judging stand at the Pebble Beach Concours dElegance. We are so proud to utilize the hallowed Concours stand as the venue to premiere the first offering from our studio, said Devon Motorworks founder and CEO Scott Devon. Each year this event serves as a living homage to the great automobiles of our past, many of which served as our inspiration for the Devon GTX. By being mindful of classic design, and blending our own view of modern transportation, its our sincere hope that we will earn a permanent spot in the landscape of automotive history. The Devon GTX is on one hand a race-inspired performance car, offering a 650-horsepower engine and a complimentary transmission and induction/exhaust system that will make it the most powerful naturally aspirated production powertrain system on the market today. On the other hand, the vehicles muscular shape represents a new expression of modern industrial design, blending both classic and futuristic cues to warn of the awesome power that exists within its shape. We set out to design a vehicle that was quintessentially American, both in its shape and in its performance, Devon said.

2019 Range Rover Velar Review, Pricing, And Specs

2019 Range Rover Velar Review, Pricing, And Specs

Ditto the supercharged 3.0-liter V-6, which is powerful but drinks plenty of fuel and transmits a gritty song through the dash, too. The V-6 managed a 5.7-second run from zero to 60 mph in our testing; our long-term test vehicle was powered by the turbocharged four-cylinder and needed 7.4 seconds to hit 60 mph. The Velar has a tow rating of 5512 pounds. Much like the Velar's acceleration, its handling is by no means sporty. The suspension ably controls the SUV's body motions and keeps body roll in check while returning a firm, well-managed ride. Models equipped with the available air suspension can raise and lower their ride height for either more dynamic moves on-road or greater dexterity off it. The Velar's weight likely is to blame for the turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine's being just 3 mpg better (23 mpg combined) than the more powerful supercharged V-6 option. Our Velar test vehicle with the V-6 was a laggard with a posted 22 mpg in our real-world highway fuel-economy test. That's 2 mpg short of the EPA's highway estimate; with the turbocharged four-cylinder we managed 26 mpg. Likes: Modern and stylish interior, slick dual-screen infotainment system, loads of cargo space.

There were quite a number of innovative conversions of the Model T made for military service. All of them are interesting and the Polish use of a Model T to create an early armored car is one. The Poles designated their armored car the Ford FT-B. This Model T conversion was created in two weeks and served the Polish Army well in their battles with the Russian Bolsheviks. Before the war the Model T had been available with many after-market conversions, including a half-track conversion. For use in the Great War there was even a full-track version created and trialed. At the outbreak of the Great War in 1914 Model T Fords were a part of the action. The French Army fielded about 11,000 Model T鈥檚 for the war effort. British and Empire Forces fielded somewhere between 20,000 to 30,000 and the Tin Lizzy鈥檚 were used in Europe, Africa and the Middle East campaigns.

The latter allowed this relatively small vehicle to seat up to six people. For 1994 and '95, the Defender 90 was powered by a 3.9-liter V8 that made 182 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. This engine drove a full-time four-wheel-drive system and was connected only to a five-speed manual transmission. For 1997, Land Rover fitted the Discovery's 4.0-liter aluminum V8 that yielded 182 hp and 233 lb-ft of torque into the Defender. Mated only to a four-speed automatic, this engine wasn't any more powerful than its predecessor, but it had lower emissions, which granted the Defender a brief re-entry into the United States. Those expecting to find an interior similar to those found in Land Rover's other products will be greatly disappointed. The Defender represents the definition of bare-bones, with a simplistic dashboard designed in the mid-1980s and a utilitarian cabin fashioned to be more easily vacuumed out after a Serengeti trek.

An all-new, second-generation Freelander model was launched in Europe for the 2007 model year. This time, the Freelander was based on Volvo's S80 platform, and utilized a standard all-wheel-drive system developed in conjunction with Haldex. With increased passenger space-and improved performance (both on- and off-road)-the new Freelander was introduced to the North American market as the "LR2" when it debuted for the 2008 model year (thus following the established nomenclature of its U.S. Land Rover has updated the LR2 for the 2011 model year. The exterior receives a mild refresh, with a new front bumper assembly, three new exterior colors, and new alloy wheel options. The interior benefits from new instrument dials, upgraded front seats, and new option packages. Europeans will be offered a front-wheel-drive model, but there is no word yet whether that variant will arrive in North America. The 2011 Land Rover LR2 is expected to be in showrooms this fall.

2019 Range Rover Velar Review, Pricing, And Specs

2019 Range Rover Velar Review, Pricing, And Specs

Compact luxury crossovers are a cliquey bunch. Porsche's Macan is the hot hatch, Mercedes-Benz's GLC-class is the luxury choice, and Audi's Q5 is the nondescript sales winner. Land Rover's Range Rover Velar is the stylish one, leveraging Range Rover's signature rectilinearity against slim lights and a tapering roof for visual pop. Two new touchscreen displays dazzle occupants and drastically reduce the number of hard buttons in the cabin. All-wheel drive and a turbocharged four-cylinder engine are standard; a diesel four-cylinder and a supercharged V-6 are available. What's New for 2019? The lovely 2019 Velar's sophomore year is marked by some slight tweaks to its available content and a larger, 21.6-gallon fuel tank. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available for the first time and are bundled together in the Smartphone Pack package and the Velar's Premium Textile interior upholstery can now be ordered as a standalone option. The 2019 Velar can be powered by either a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline-fed four-cylinder, a 2.0-liter diesel-powered four, or a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6.

Moreover, it will make the real market value of the car clearer, so you can avoid losing both time and money with a poor quality car. If you are buying a used car, it would be wise also to check out on Land Rover community forums some info about Land Rover problems, complaints and recalls. This will reduce the probability of making a bad deal. But maybe you're not so sure of what a Land Rover vin number is, so here's a little explanation. The vin number is a special identifying number given to every car and can give you lots of useful information about it like: manufacturer, year of production, type of engine, the plant it was produced in, and other essential data. This code is approved worldwide and it was created by the ISO institute, so every car must have this mark. Another thing you need to remember is that in the Land Rover vin decoder options are not always shown. This depends on the model year because Land Rover did not start to add such detailed information in internet databases until 2010 or so. Therefore, if you put in the vin number of a 2006 model, for example, you should receive just basic information. But if you put in the vin number of a 2011 model, you should have a complete sheet with all the factory specifications, mounted options included. 80 model: Look near the motor casing and on the plaque near the bulkhead. In more recent cars the plaque is within the cabin. 86 & 107 model: Look the bulkhead within the car and on the right hand front spring hanger.

When we got back to the car it said it was 105 out. We headed straight to the grocery store and each gulped down a liter of cold, refreshing water. Then followed it up by enjoying the best gelato I've ever had at Reimer's Candies. We also met Roscoe, Brutus, and another kitty, Jenn's dog and two cats, who went absolutely bonkers to have company visiting. Ballet on the flumes. A first for everyone involved. We headed back through Yosemite on our way out of town, stopping at Glacier Point per Jenn's recommendation. We saw beautiful views of Half Dome and El Capitan, but were shocked to see a forest fire raging up the valley. An intentional brush fire that had been burning for awhile had gotten out of control due to shifting winds. We watched as the sky and valley continued to fill with smoke as the fire raged on. The smoke crept through the sky and followed us even as we headed into Nevada. But that didn't prevent us from enjoying the stunning beauty of the desert. The fire starts to get out of control.

Of those two failures the second is by far the worst because it鈥檚 usually associated with overheating and sometimes catastrophic engine failure. The common dealership repair is usually to slap a new head gasket in place and send it down the road. That works for some engines. But on others, the result is a repeat failure - a month, a year, or three years later. A blown head gasket. Area in the red box is the coolant passage. Most of the cars we see are in this latter category. For example, we get quite a few Land Rover engines that have a 鈥渉istory of head gasket replacements.鈥?No engine should have repeat head gasket failures. When that happens, some repair step is being skipped, or there鈥檚 another root cause. Almost every engine we see needs some additional machine work when the heads come off. How can you tell if a gasket alone will fix your problem?

This infotainment system is said to be more intuitive and user-friendly to use. It is claimed to require 50% lesser inputs to perform frequent tasks in comparison to the previous system. Also, it supports OTA system updates. The all-new Defender makes use of Land Rover鈥檚 D7x platform and is claimed to have the stiffest body structure to be ever produced by the company. Although it is a reworked version of existing modular architecture, it is said to be 95% new. The new D7x platform has been designed to support mild-electric powertrains. The Defender's off-road prowess is further complemented by a four-wheel drivetrain, a twin-speed transmission, locking centre differential, active rear locking differential and a choice of independent air or coil spring suspension. The new generation Land Rover Defender comes with Configurable Terrain Response, and it also features three levels of throttle and gearbox sensitivity which have been added to make it more versatile for all kinds of drivers. Furthermore, it offers Land Rover鈥檚 ClearSight Ground View, which displays the under bonnet area on the central touchscreen. This feature is especially useful in doing extreme off-roading. It also comes with Enhanced Hill Hold and Hill Launch Assist. The all-new go-anywhere Land Rover will be initially available with four- and six-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, but a plug-in hybrid variant will join the list next year. Its petrol engine options include the 300 PS P300 four-cylinder unit and the 400 PS P400 six-cylinder engine. The P400 works in conjunction with mild-hybrid technology. The diesel engine options include the 200 PS D200 unit and the 240 PS D240 unit, both of which are four-cylinder.

2019 Range Rover Evoque Review, Pricing, And Specs

2019 Range Rover Evoque Review, Pricing, And Specs

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are optional, as is an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot powered by a 4G LTE data connection. Despite being one of the larger vehicles in this segment, the Evoque's capability for hauling carry-on luggage barely edged out a win from the more compact GLA-class and the Audi Q3. We fit five of our carry-on suitcases behind the back seat of our Evoque hardtop test vehicle, and with the rear seats folded to their almost-flat position, we stuffed 17 cases inside. Safety-minded consumers can equip their Evoque with a number of driver-assistance features including automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist. However, they must first opt for a more expensive trim level such as the Landmark or the HSE, since neither of these features are available on the base SE version. Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have tested the Evoque's safety performance. With a warranty that barely meets the industry standard, the Range Rover Evoque does nothing to stand out in this category. The Lexus NX may be a better choice for buyers who drive more than the average person, since that model comes with longer powertrain coverage.

Land Rover will restructure the lineup of trim levels. More precisely, there will be fewer trim levels than before. On the other hand, the base model will get more standard features. Another important update is the infotainment system. The current system was so hard to use and confusing at the moments. Latest updates should fix this and provide a better user experience. There will be a room for five passengers, like always before. When you compare the new Velar model with the Range Rover Sport, Velar is lighter and less powerful. Whatsoever, Range Rover Sport offers better off-road ability. The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar will use a smaller output and more efficient engines. There will be three available options under the Velar鈥檚 hood. For the start a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is available. This unit comes with a turbocharger and it delivers 247 HP and 270 lb-ft of torque.

The term SUV is becoming increasingly widespread. Popular names in general use are "Land Rover" or "Jeep", used to describe the vehicle class and not just a single manufacturer's product. This practice was actively discouraged by every owner of the Jeep trademark, but this terminology is still in widespread use - even in Germany for example - due to the pioneering and defining influence of these first products. In Australia and New Zealand the term 'SUV' is not widely used and carries a negative connotation of very large, American vehicles which are not sold in Australia. Passenger class vehicles designed for offroad use are known as 'four wheel drives', or '4WDs', or '4X4s'. The crossover name is meant to indicate the vehicle is both 4WD and roadcar, but in reality, these crossovers are far more roadcar than offroader. The motoring press refers to vehicles of the crossover class as softroaders, but manufacturers do not use this term. The term 'AWD', or All Wheel Drive is used for any vehicle that drives all four wheels but is not designed for any offroad use. The Australian "utility" or "ute" (an abbreviation of "coupe utility", a vehicle type created in Australia in 1934) traditionally refers to a car-based commercial vehicle with an open load area at the rear. Utes can be 2WD or 4WD, and many are available in both formats, for example the Toyota , Nissan and Mitsubishi . The term is also widely used in New Zealand. These vehicles are known in South Africa as bakkies, and elsewhere as pickups.

Lampedusa is an Italian island that is closer to North Africa than it is to Italy. In the past decade about 20 000 people have died during the crossing. Since the newest case broke, new tragedies occurred. With that, the matter is on the agenda of a Europe while concerns regarding illegal migration continue to grow. Besides headlines, the man-made tragedy demands solutions. Reflecting the temper of our time, certain circles like to label the crisis as the 鈥渟hame of Europe鈥? Starting from there, the suggestions discuss how more 鈥渞efugee鈥?deaths are to be avoided. These generally involve ways to make the passage safer. That is to be followed by the quick transfer of arrivals to the European mainland and their placement there. While this sounds as a humanitarian response to a need, the suggested measures and the assumptions behind them are problematic. To begin, we need to admit that -with the partial exception of the Syrians- we are dealing with a misnomer. Most of those that try to enter 鈥淓urope鈥?are not persecuted refugees.

But whether you love it or hate it, you have to admit its quirky design gives it an unmistakable appearance on the road. The term crossover has been stretched recently thanks to small utility vehicles that barely offer any ground clearance and only come in front-wheel drive. One such model is the Toyota C-HR, which has a low-slung body, angular front and rear fascias, and radically raked rear liftgate. One of only two SUVs available as a drop-top, the Range Rover Evoque Convertible lets you take in the sun while going off the beaten path. However, the lack of two doors and a hatch give it an awkward look with the roof up. Whether you have the fabric top in place or folded, the Evoque Convertible will turn heads for its novelty factor and unusual design. Among compact crossovers, the Kia Sportage is one of the most attention-grabbing. Its aggressive front fascia features high-mounted headlights reminiscent of Porsche SUVs, which lends it a look you might not expect from a mainstream utility vehicle.

2019 Land Rover Discovery Review, Pricing, And Specs

2019 Land Rover Discovery Review, Pricing, And Specs

Off-roading and luxury rarely go hand-in-hand, but the 2020 Land Rover Discovery is the perfect vehicle for this rare intersection of automotive categories. Not only is it a genuine go-anywhere SUV, it's also good at toting the family around town and ticking off errands from your weekend to-do list. It offers space for up to seven in its upscale cabin and buyers can choose from two V-6 engines: either an efficient diesel or a thirsty-but-muscly supercharged gasoline-powered engine. An optional air suspension provides additional ground clearance on demand for when the going gets rough. What's New for 2020? The 2020 Discover adds the new Landmark trim, which sits between the base SE and the mid-range HSE models. The Landmark model comes exclusively with the supercharged V-6 engine and handsome 21-inch wheels. Elsewhere, the base SE gains additional standard equipment in the form of blind-spot monitoring, auto-dimming power-folding exterior mirrors with heat and memory settings, and integrated approach lighting.

So today I got a customer with a 2006 Range Rover Supercharged with a transmission problem. The concern was that he felt a "jerk" when the car was accelerating at a certain speed. So I drove the car and as it changed from 3rd to 4th gear the car would basically harshly shift and when it did you would feel like somebody pushed you from the back. The following codes are shift codes. What happens is that the computer monitors the input and the output of the transmission to calculate if everything is ok. P0780-00: Shift monitoring fault - input/output shaft speed ratio out of range during a shift (any gear). You get the idea, the two codes I have were from third to fourth gear and from fourth to third. After further reading I learned the power flow inside the transmission and learned what clutches were in operation during this shift. Now to the big question: what's the fix?

Cox鈥檚 final run issues saw him drop to fourth ahead of Richard Green鈥檚 Tomcat. Paul Myers was 6th and the Isuzu of Jason Sharpe was 7th despite having to do some runs in two wheel drive after a driveshaft issue. In 8th was Ian Bartlett who towed Cox for almost a full lap in his Tomcat. Birthday boy Steve Smith finished 9th after stopping twice with problems on day one while Paul Harris rounded off the top ten after a troublesome event in his GSR Maxilight, the car suffering from overheating. In the Freelander Challenge Ian Linford took the win. Freelander newcomer Andrew Price was second. In third was the Race2Recovery crew of Grant White and Yanto Evans in their Dynamic Metals-supported car, the crew making history by becoming the first amputee pairing to enter and finish an event. Ian Letman was fourth despite rolling the car on day one. Jon Damrel was once again victorious in the Clubman class in his Tornado.
