On 1 January 2013, the group, which had been operating as two separate companies (Jaguar Cars Limited and Land Rover), although on an integrated basis, underwent a fundamental restructuring. The parent company was renamed to Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC, Jaguar Cars Limited was renamed to Jaguar Land Rover Limited and the assets (excluding certain Chinese interests) of Land Rover were transferred to it. The consequence was that Jaguar Land Rover Limited became responsible in the UK for the design, manufacture and marketing of both Jaguar and Land Rover branded products, and Land Rover and Jaguar Cars ceased to be separate vehicle producing entities. 1980: Rover car production ends at Solihull with the transfer of SD1 production to Cowley, Oxford; Solihull is now exclusively for Land Rover manufacture. 1994: Rover Group is taken over by BMW. Introduction of second-generation Range Rover. 1997: Land Rover introduces the Special Edition Discovery XD with AA yellow paint, subdued wheels, SD type roof racks, and a few other off-road upgrades directly from the factory.

That, and the Kodiak hose question, made me look at the later thermostats used on Series 2a and Series 3 vehicles. Those designs (there are two types) looked as if they might have some design advantages over the original, and after some more research, the late 2a/3 type looked best. It's thermostat has a 'skirt' that blocks a large part of the flow back into the engine, the rest then going through the radiator. It also has a 'cap' that, when the engine is cold, appears to stop flow to the radiator more thoroughly and direct more coolant directly back into the engine until the engine has warmed up. The earlier thermostat, which didn't seem as effective, is a 'waxstat', with the same permanently open hole at the top as with the bellows type, which means more coolant going immediately back into the engine without passing through the radiator. The open thermostat doesn't do that much to divert flow to the radiator except lack of resistance down the radiator channel, which is offset from the main channel.

So why should you not buy a used viscous coupling unit (VCU)? Well, simply because you have no idea as to the condition of the viscous fluid inside it, because generally you have no idea of the mileage it has done. So how will you know when to change it? How will you protect yourself from those big bills? If you have been unfortunate enough to suffer from a damaged IRD unit (transfer box) or rear differential was your mileage over 70,000 miles? Had your viscous coupling unit (VCU) been replaced previously? If your mileage was over 70,000 miles and you never replaced your viscous coupling unit (VCU) then this will generally have been the cause of your empty wallet! And if you still don't replace your viscous coupling unit (VCU) and fit a new IRD unit (transfer box) or rear differential, then it is almost certain the same thing will soon happen again! The key is to always buy a new or reconditioned viscous coupling unit (VCU) which has had the viscous fluid replaced. This way you know you have another 70,000 miles of carefree motoring without having to worry about damaging your expensive drive train.

After being killed off a few years ago, Land Rover鈥檚 most legendary vehicle鈥攖he Defender鈥攊s back, and though it does not appear as off-road focused as the old machine, it still looks awesome. Here鈥檚 what you need to know about the 2020 Land Rover Defender. The Defender became a legend in the off-road community thanks in large part to its incredible off-road capability and easily modifiable platform. These two traits were, in many ways, enabled by the Defender鈥檚 old-school body-on-frame architecture and solid-axle design. Land Rover just showed off the long-awaited Defender at the Frankfurt Motor Show today; let鈥檚 look at the specs. Later, Land Rover says in its press release, a plug-in hybrid will be on offer, as will be a diesel. Per Automotive News Europe, the diesels will likely include an inline-four in 197 and 237 horsepower tune and possibly a six-cylinder, though we don鈥檛 know which of those will be available in the U.S. Bolted to the motors are eight-speed ZF automatics, and hooked to those transmissions are full-time four-wheel drive systems with low range, as the Land Rover gods demanded.

Displacement of the first models was 1,600 cc. The Buick-sourced all aluminium Rover V8 engine. 1,997 cc Petrol, inlet-over-exhaust: Series I engine, carried over for the first few months of Series II production. 2,052 cc Diesel, overhead-valve: Land Rover's first diesel engine, and one of the first small high-speed diesels produced in the UK. It appeared in 1957, and was used in Series II production until 1961. Looks almost identical to the later 2,286 cc engine, but many internal differences. It produced 51 bhp (38 kW). 2,286 cc Diesel, overhead-valve, three-bearing crank: Appeared in 1961 alongside the redesigned 2,286 cc petrol engine at the start of Series IIA production, and shared its cylinder block and some other components. It produced 62 bhp (46 kW). 2,625 cc Petrol, inlet-over-exhaust: Borrowed from the Rover saloon range, in response to demands from mid-1960s Land Rover users for more power and torque. 2,286 cc petrol/diesel, overhead-valve type 11J: five-bearing crank: In 1980, Land Rover finally did something about the crank failures which had plagued its four-cylinder engines for 22 years.

I used 1/8 steel from an old American-style household oil tank. I have lots of this material left over from making a smoker out of the oil tank earlier in the year. Make this patch 5 and 7/8 inches tall to allow it to be welded to the edge of the six-inch tall frame, which edge is itself a weld and thus thicker, stronger metal. Weld this patch all the way around, but use a lower setting for the sides than for the top and the bottom. Sixty amps is fine, slow, but gets the job done without burning gratuitous holes in your frame. Here's the cleaned-up frame on my truck, ready for repair. Here's what a completed patch should look like. In my case a patch was required on the passenger side but not the driver's side. Don't cover the frame holes if you can help it. These are useful for spraying corrosion inhibitor inside the frame. Once the patch is in place, or not, you need to grind it level and then you're ready for the new outrigger.

This way your guests get to meet new people and may be prone to having more fun. With 30 people you will need many tables, so having helpers is very important. I would suggest having at least 5 helpers/waiters for 30 people. Each helper will be responsible for 1 table of 6 guests. As everyone is seated you then explain how the dinner will happen. Each helper will be standing at the head of each table, holding the menu鈥檚. After your explanation your helper will then give each guest a menu with a pencil. Having them put their name on each menu will help the waiter remember what goes to who. They will be allowed to order 5 items each course. As the item is ordered it will be crossed off the list, so it cannot be ordered again. Using plain white paper for your menu is probably the least expensive and best, for these will most likely never be used again. You will need several 鈥榤aster copy鈥?menu鈥檚 placed around the area where the food is to be served.

Fuel economy for the frugal Mazda shows as 28-mpg city and 39-mpg highway. Refreshed for the current model year, the 2015 Ford Focus Titanium combines many of Ford's different options packages for the compact sedan and hatchback. You can also order the Titanium Technology package, which includes extra safety gear, as well as the option of a sunroof, a navigation system, and even an automatic parking feature. The Focus Titanium's engine is the same 2.0-liter, four-cylinder mill found with the base model, which means 160 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, and buyers can choose between either a five-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automated manual gearbox. Fuel economy for the Titanium is listed at 27-mpg city and 37-mpg highway. The 2015 Acura ILX is a compact economy car with definite luxury leanings, which means that even entry-level editions are quite well-equipped. The 2.4 Premium Package includes a 201 horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that is also good for 170 lb-ft of torque. Unusual in its class, this top-shelf Acura is only offered with a six-speed manual transmission, and fuel efficiency checks in at 22-mpg around town and 31-mpg during highway cruising.

It has become too easy to be consistently amazed by the Dodge Grand Caravan's absolute domination of the Canadian minivan sector. 54% of all minivans sold in Canada in September 2011 were Grand Caravans. That's during a month in which Grand Caravan sales actually slid, though only by 18 units, a mere fraction of the Grand Caravan's total. But again, we could go on and on about the champion month after month after month. It's not as though minivans form the most interesting subject to begin with, but after discussing the same amazing Grand Caravan feats each time this post is published, it gets even more tiresome. So consider the true minivans for a moment, the Mazda 5 and Kia Rondo. No longer on sale in the United States because of a lack of interest, the Rondo continues to sell in decent numbers in Canada even as it drives by its best before date. Rondo sales fell by only four units in September but are down 7% through the first nine months of 2011. Kia has sold 5246 Rondos in Canada this year. That beats the Mazda 5 by 196 units. Mazda 5 sales slid 31% in September and are off by 18% this year. Both the Rondo and the Mazda 5 have a new rival from General Motors. Chevrolet sold 83 Orlandos in September, the Orlando's first month on sale. What you didn't see in the list of best-selling trucks was the Cadillac Escalade EXT, sales of which rose 33% in September. Neither did you see the Chevrolet Colorado, sales of which tumbled 34% last month. GMC Canyon sales slid 35%. The defunct Dodge Dakota was down 84%. The Honda Ridgeline narrowly missed out on Canada's worst-selling vehicles list with a 66% decline.

The Freelander was also assembled in CKD form at Land Rover's facility in Pune, India. As of 2015, the company continued to expand by building locally in India as well as increasing the number of models made at JLR鈥檚 Chikhali facility near Pune to include the Discovery Sport and Evoque. Defender models were assembled under licence in several locations worldwide, including Spain (Santana Motors), Iran (Pazhan Morattab), Brazil (Karmann), and Turkey (Otokar). Land Rover LRX - Land Rover's second concept vehicle, first unveiled at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. Originally a vehicle with ERAD technology, the production version did not include this. The car was then launched in 2011 as the Range Rover Evoque, and was the first Range Rover branded product to be offered with front wheel drive, and no low ratio transfer box. Llama' prototypes for 101 replacement. The inlet-over-exhaust petrol engines ("semi side-valve"), in both four- and six-cylinder variants, which were used for the very first Land Rovers in 1948, and which had their origins in pre-war Rover cars.

Held in prestige, the Range Rover has been the vehicle choice for upper class Britain and her shrinking Commonwealth for decades. Feature rich and capable, the 1970 introduction of a permanent 4wd mid sized vehicle encouraged trans-continental overland explorers to adopt and prove the capability of the new Land Rover brand. The 1971 crossing of the Darien Gap by Range Rover, led by Colonel John Blashford-Snell, proved the Range Rover but required plenty of air support to fly in axles and other important items that needed re-engineering. Roll on the 1980's and Range Rover needed a new proving ground for their vehicles. The Camel Trophy, only a year old, introduced the Range Rover as the flagship 4x4. Not many vehicles exist after the event as it was rumoured that Land Rover had all the participant vehicles crushed. Although capable, this vehicle has not inspired independent overlanders to adopt it as a trusted platform, preferring the rugged Defender and even the Discovery.

The motor vehicle industry offers a unique perspective on globalization because of its massive employment, huge corporations and iconic product, it seem to reflect the countries identity. GM and FORD for the united states, FIAT and Ferrari for the Italy, Toyota and Honda for Japan. Globalization has impacted almost all the companies. Some of who managed to survive the various incidences of history like the world war and the great depression have set industry standards for the companies to follow. I am going to demonstrate the effect of globalization by taking Three instances from the Ford motor company.

Would you recommend this vehicle? The different weather modes are awesome. The car is great, but since it is a little older (2011) it is slowing down a bit. Good car when you first purchase it. The vehicle is extremely reliable and the performance is excellent, but just as most land rover's and range rover's are, the wear & tear is drastic and sooner than most cars. A lot of things start to stop working & need to be replaced, and it gets very expensive especially if you go to the dealership, but I do love my car, I wish it wasn't getting old and slowing down. I love the size and the comfort of my Land Rover. It is a beautiful car on the inside and outside. I have had a few technical issues and I have found that it is pretty expensive to fix land rovers so that would be the one downfall to the car. I recommend it for sturdiness and reliability.
