The second row provides plenty of legroom (36.4 inches). But Ratan Tata, the chairman of Jaguar Land Rover's parent company Tata Motors is warning against getting carried away with the financial success. In an exclusive interview with the Birmingham Post, Mr Tata also revealed plans for a host of new models were progressing strongly, and cast doubt over whether electric cars were close to establishing themselves on the mass market. He said: 'The company went down initially because of the downturn. All of us were thinking 'why did we buy this white elephant? What a stupid thing to do! I am very proud of what the people of Jaguar and Land Rover have been able to do but there is a long way to go. It is a cyclic thing. We have moved on from where we were but the competition isn't going to sit quietly - it is a dog-eat-dog world.

Ever since they first appeared, way back in 1948, Land Rovers have been renowned for their ruggedness and off-road prowess. But perhaps what's most impressive about the 2015 Land Rover LR2 is just how well it behaves when mud becomes tarmac, the roads twist and turn and the driver demands sportiness, rather than its famous aptitude for traversing boulders. LR2 is Land Rover's entry-level SUV, but you still get plenty of styling and luxury. Built with unibody construction, LR2 seats five, and sits below the Land Rover LR4 and the upscale Range Rover products. Very popular in the UK, relatively few LR2s are sold in the U.S. The LR2 is being phased out to make way for the upcoming Land Rover Discovery Sport. New Black Pack and Silver Pack option groups are available for 2015, including upgraded 19-inch wheels, hard-disc navigation, and special exterior/interior design elements. A new audio upgrade is offered: an 825-watt 17-speaker Meridian surround-sound system, packaged with SiriusXM and HD radio. Beneath the LR2 hood is a fuel-efficient 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with high-pressure direct fuel injection and variable valve timing, lifted from the Range Rover Evoque.





Jaguar Land Rover will NOT cut back production in the UK, once China plant comes on stream. Range Rover Evoque production in China will not reduce output at the UK factory where the SUV is also built, the plant鈥檚 operations director said. The Evoque is the first local production model built in Jaguar Land Rover鈥檚 new 130,000-unit-a-year factory in Changshu, about 110km (70 miles) northwest of Shanghai. The compact premium SUV's main production plant is in Halewood, northwest England, where it is produced alongside the Land Rover Discovery Sport, which likely will be the second model built at the Changshu factory. Last year 180,000 Evoques and Freelanders were built at the Halewood factory, putting it at maximum capacity use, plant boss Richard Else said. Halewood has just began production of the Discovery Sport, which replaces the Freelander early next year. Else said growth in China鈥檚 premium SUV market means there is enough work for both plants. 鈥淲e don鈥檛 envisage any reduction of volume. China is very much about growth,鈥?he told Automotive News Europe at a press event at the Halewood factory.





Jobs like these can take a year, maybe more to complete. But the results will be worth the wait. If you鈥檙e thinking of restoring a car - Land Rover or otherwise, I urge you to talk to the shop. Learn their philosophy and make sure it鈥檚 in line with what you want. Remember attitudes can vary with car lines. I鈥檇 approach a 1954 Rolls Royce with a very different mindset than the one I鈥檇 apply to a 1978 Land Rover pickup. Some people want to work on one line only but I鈥檓 happy to take a variety. There鈥檚 room in the restoration world for all of us. One final piece of advice - pay attention to how the shop manager communicates with you. Ask whomever you will be dealing with to explain some aspect of their trade and listen close. Do you get the sense they really understand the theory behind what鈥檚 proposed to do? If you have doubts - watch out! Some of the biggest mistakes I see come from well intentioned ignorance. Another thing to watch for is specialized knowledge. If you care about originality the shop should know what is and isn鈥檛 correct for your year and model. Ask how they will update you on progress. We send updates with images and text every week. People may roll their eyes at endless images of wheel bearings and pistons but they sure know what we are doing, every step of the way. We may send a client a thousand images in the course of a job. We want our clients to be fully informed so there are no surprises when they see their finished car.





Greetings, faithful Land Rover Lovers (and other lovers) - It has been a while since I posted anything, and that was a bitter little post, that. It has been grim here, folks. Grim indeed. Have you read THIS yet? So what does this mean for us now? Although, I doubt it. JLRNA seems to be kissing hiney somewhere along the line to keep out old Land Rovers - but why? My guess is, they believe these old primitive Defenders are cutting into their business selling new Range Rovers. I would bet on it. There are other things out there to worry about people! The irony is, a person can being in a truck MORE than 25 years old, presumably without issue, but can NOT bring one in 24.999 years old or newer - DUE TO SAFETY AND EMISSIONS VIOLATIONS. So let me get this straight; I can bring in a 1958 Land rover with drum brakes that spews black exhaust, but can not bring in a 2001 Land Rover with a clean-burning-catalyzed-exhaust and airbags - For safety reasons? Far be it from me to second-guess. ANYWAY - My other guess is that more fellas are going to want to make their Range Rover Classics and Discoveries (as well as Series 88/109 rigs) turbo-diesel and manual transmission. Well, I have engine kits for you. And I can offer installation and/or technical advice. A lot going on lately. I'll be posting more in the near future now that I am breathing again. In the meantime, we have Tdi Range Rovers for sale, and a Defender 90 with soft and hard-tops.

The Range Rover is the archetype of the brand, but with the LR2, Land Rover signaled it's ready to build the kind of crossover SUVs most buyers want today. To be better from the competition, the carmaker must make a stunning move. One thing is sure, the interior of the new Defender is going to be luxurious. Well, the DC100 concept was too futuristic. While some of the exterior details can be useful for the upcoming model, the cockpit will need more of the classic approach. Well, the old-school dashboard in combination with new elements will be a hit. While the exterior of the DC100 concept could be modern nowadays, the cockpit is still not possible. Large touchscreen dashboard would be too much.





Laughing, the team headed across the compound to the dinner hut and the promise of another full day of sight seeing and travel. The little group packed their bags, to be collected later by the porters, and headed out for their safari tour. It was an exciting day! They took reams of pictures, (thank goodness for digital cameras,) and enjoyed the cool of the morning safe and sound in the range rover. Umbwana showed them herds of giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles and various other wildlife, even managing to catch a family of cheetahs lounging in a copse of trees watching a herd of elephants enjoying a dust bath. All too soon, it was time for a quick lunch and then back to the park to catch their ride to the airfield for their flight to Cairo. The case is solved! After another bone jarring, dusty ride to the airfield, they boarded another rickety looking, four engine plane and headed to Egypt.





We resisted the temptation to pitch our tent atop one of them. The PCH did not disappoint. The giant redwoods made Sweetcakes look teeny tiny. Continuing south of the Redwood forest we quickly saw the extent of California's extreme 5-year drought. All vegetation was brown and dead: a tinder box just waiting to go up in flames. That evening we arrived in Sonoma, where we would spend the rest of the week with my parents and some family friends touring wine country. Later in the week we drove to Muir Woods to see more redwoods and do some hiking. Our last night in Sonoma we made plans to meet some friends for dinner in Berkeley. The drive took nearly 2 hours and then we of course had problems finding a parking spot in Berkeley. But it was all worth it for some delicious pizza and catching up with some friends.

I have now owned the LR2 for almost 5 weeks, put on over 1000 miles, and taken it off-road once. Mine is off white with a camel interior. This is a great combo when in the hot sun. I have the blue tooth option integrated into the stereo. Everything else is standard like the standard 19鈥?wheels. The following are my comments on the vehicle and how it has been performing. 路 The LR2 uses a Volvo engine and transmission. 路 The engine is transversely mounted. 路 It is always in all wheel drive and biased to the front. 路 There is no Low-Range. 路 The standard wheels/ tires are 19鈥?235/55 rubber on all four corners. These are not a popular size, so you may have trouble finding them when it is time to replace. Every day use: Driving the LR2 has been a pleasure. It is very comfortable and provides the driver with a good view of the road ahead. I have read a few complaints about the adjustable seats, but I have no complaints.





INFORMATION leaked from what appears to be an in-house Land Rover presentation has revealed the new 2020 Land Rover Defender will eventually be available in three wagon variants. Taking its nomenclature from Defenders past, the three wagons will be known as the Defender 90, Defender 110 and Defender 130; but, unlike in the past, the numerals do not reflect the wheelbase in inches. Notably, there is still no mention of any Defender ute or cab-chassis models. The information appeared on a Disco4 forum. The 110 is dubbed Definitive Defender in the leaked documents, while the 90 is the Halo, Icon model. It also lists the 90 as being offered with a choice of five or six seats, suggesting a three-pew front row, but whether that is offered in Australia remains to be seen. In good news for off-roaders, the leaked info reveals standard Defenders will be fitted with 18-inch wheels which, while not ideal, are better than the 19s on Discoverys and offer more off-road-suitable tyre choices. It also suggests there will be three specification levels with a choice of petrol, diesel and PHEV engines, all backed by an automatic transmission - no manual gearbox! These are European suggestions and Australian specs have yet to be revealed. All the Defender wagons will ride on Land Rover鈥檚 aluminium monocoque chassis with full independent suspension. At least the upper-spec models will have height-adjustable air suspension and it remains to be seen if any model will be offered with steel coil springs. Expect a swag of electronic features and gizmos to improve its off-road abilities, in lieu of traditional wheel travel and locking differentials. Land Rover is promising the new Defender will be the most capable off-road vehicle the brand has ever produced.

The 2015 Land Rover LR2 is a segment leader when it comes to off-road capabilities, but you may be less impressed by its equipment levels. That鈥檚 because the LR2 doesn鈥檛 offer expected high-end options like ventilated seating, mobile Wi-Fi or forward-collision warning. With seating for five people, the LR2 is Land Rover鈥檚 compact premium SUV. This year鈥檚 lineup consists of an LR2 base model and HSE and HSE LUX levels. The LR2 comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard across all trim levels. Two option bundles, the Black Pack and the Silver Pack, are new for the 2015 model year. They come with upgrades like a navigation system and exterior accents. The Land Rover LR2 has a traditional SUV shape with a relatively high and flat hood. A low-profile grille with dual perforated bars is on display at the front of the vehicle, while prominent fenders and fender vents bring detail to the LR2鈥檚 body. At the rear, the liftgate is flanked by circle-shaped taillights. The LR2 gets automatic halogen headlights, fog lamps, daytime running lights, a power sunroof, heated mirrors and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels as standard equipment.





It still retains a butch appeal, but in a more polished manner. At the front, some traditional Defender bits include a large hood, pronounced wheel arches and a boxy design. The new SUV also retains Alpine windows that are mounted high up in the roof above the side window panel. Other cosmetic additions include a new pair of headlamps and blacked out badges. The cabin of the SUV that was spied some time back revealed a futuristic setup. Some interior highlights include ergonomic and chunky controls alongside a new four spoke steering wheel that features electric rake and reach adjustment. It will likely feature dual zone climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and in-built navigation. A spec sheet of the Defender was also leaked earlier this year, giving us a glimpse of what to expect. According to it, the SUV spotted will be offered in the 110 body style with 5/6/7 seats options as well as the Defender 90 (5/6 seats) and the Defender 130 (8 seats) trim. The leaked spec sheet also revealed that the Defender will come with six engine options including a PHEV variant. The 2020 Defender is expected to be offered in the Standard, S, SE, and HSE and X variants. While there is no word yet on when the new Defender will make it onto Indian shores, we can expect some updates after its international reveal. Once launched, it will rival the likes of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class as well as the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

The Range Rover retains its iconic shape, but there are subtle yet distinct changes. All Range Rovers for 2006 get a new front bumper design, new headlamps and taillights, a new front grille and revised power vents. New 19-inch alloy wheels are also offered. The supercharged derivatives are distinguished by additional styling modifications including mesh-design front grille and power vents, unique 20-inch alloy wheels, and special black-on-silver badges.





Another potential model in the range could be a small Range Rover, which Land Rover would expect to either match or outstrip the sales success of the Evoque. Currently, the latter accounts for about one in four Land Rover models sold. The manufacturer has traditionally used Range Rover to spearhead its move into new market segments, and will do so again in 2019 with a more car-like electric crossover model that will be twinned with the next Jaguar XJ. A compact Defender is said to be the favourite among some company bosses to make production first. If you need more, the second row also has a standard 60/40-split, and when both sides are folded, the vehicle serves up 58.9 cubic feet of cargo space. For standard equipment, Land Rover supplies leather upholstery, six-way power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with a tilt-and-telescoping column. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are options for all trim levels.





Just look at the Four-Ball wear test comparisons to see what Im talking about. So wouldnt it be in GM's best interest (or any automobile manufacturer for that matter) to put a lesser quality oil in their vehicles and not recommend the absolute, best oil in the world? And believe me, THIS IS EXACTLY what ALL OF THE AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURERS WANT It's a little thing they call PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE. And when you use AMSOIL in your engine, transmission and/or rear-end differential, you are essentially CHEATING the manufacturers' planned obsolecense. This is why automobile manufacturers would prefer that you do NOT LEARN ABOUT AMSOIL. The majority of those that wish to settle in Europe - or in other comparable locations- do not flee political persecution. If they would be genuine refugees, the number of the escapees would be much lower. Hard dictatorships close their borders -think of the 鈥淚ron Curtain鈥? to intimidate the discontented. Actually, numerous countries encourage departures while they refuse to readmit citizens that are rejected by their chosen hosts and that thereafter attempt repatriation. Convincing motives are discernible behind the migration. However, these reasons are economic, meaning that no moral or legal obligation exists to accept such applicants. Immigration control does not contradict human rights; there is no ethical need to suspend sovereignty to allow settlement according to demand. Complicating factors can be added. Europe鈥檚 recent experience with alleged refugees is negative.
