Overland Expedition & Adventure Travel : This "Mum's Taxi" Could Be Your Next Expedition 4wd..

The automatic gearbox transitions swiftly between the gears whilst the rear limited-slip differential (LSD) ensures traction to the rear wheels without the Torsen centre diff engaged. Toyota states: The Torsen, or torque-sensing, differential is engineered to automatically send more torque to the wheel or axle with more traction, helping provide greater grip and better turning on uncertain surfaces. I can get and might not accurately reflect the defined engineering! This vehicle won't be the talking point around the fire place especially if a Troopy driver and a Land Rover Defender driver are part of the fireside conversations. However, you will be the only one stepping out of the dust proof interior, fresh from the icy cold aircon and with energy levels that are ready to tackle camp setup. 2. You want modifications? In factory form, the IFS permanent 4wd is ready to go. Ground clearance is adequate for trans-Africa travel in 2015 and the 180L factory fitted fuel tank is the perfect size for refueling in cheap countries, giving you a fuel efficient drive over 1200km per fuel tank.

JAGUAR Land Rover boosted the ailing UK economy by announcing 1,000 jobs to accelerate its expansion plans. But it is 'next stop China' for the British-based, Indian-owned carmaker with global ambitions. The company said the jobs were being created to help deliver 40 'significant' new models and variants over the next five years under a multi-billion pound investment in new vehicles. It is also looking to expand production into China and India where sales are booming, and where new factories are planned. Jaguar Land Rover has already opened a factory in Pune, India, assembling Land Rover Defenders in kit form. But it is also pursuing a joint venture deal with a Chinese manufacturer - rumoured to be Chery - to build a Jaguar Land Rover factory in China. The new British jobs will be created at the firm's Land Rover plant in Solihull, West Midlands and represents a 25pc increase in the plant's workforce. A top secret new generation Range Rover is set to go into production at Solihull next year. Heavily disguised prototypes of the luxury 4X4, in black and white zebra stripes, were spotted on test in and around the Queen's Balmoral estate in Scotland on Friday. 1bn bailout from the taxpayer. It is also a vote of confidence in the Solihull factory, which was under threat of closure along with the Jaguar Castle Bromwich plant. 1.5bn a year for the next five years in new product developments. 14.6m the previous year.

On the other hand, not all consumers are always in a hurry and need lustful engine sounds to get excited. The 2019 Range Rover Velar with the P380 engine competes with hot-blooded SUVs such the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC, the Porsche Macan S, the Audi SQ5 and the BMW X3 M40i, which produce between 349 and 385 horsepower. And the company鈥檚 own Jaguar F-PACE S, which uses the same powertrain. The Velar has good road manners, thanks in part to its air suspension that鈥檚 included in higher-end trim levels. The Velar鈥檚 interior design is also pretty sweet, with a resolutely sophisticated approach relying on touchscreens and wheel-mounted tactile surfaces. However, we鈥檇 go for some wood veneer to cut down on the overall darkness and we鈥檙e not too fond of the piano black surfaces. The lower touch-sensitive control panel is particularly slick, and the multifunction rotary dials for setting cabin temperature is neat from a design perspective.

Overland Expedition & Adventure Travel : January 2019

Overland Expedition & Adventure Travel : January 2019

The main focus for the Africa Overland Network is to link past, current and future independent overland websites. As a result, the website has captured journey time, primary route and vehicle choice. It is currently the most updated website dedicated to independent overlanders. As a result, the statistics on vehicle choice and travel time tell an interesting story. Leading up to 2010, the Land Rover was the preferred vehicle of choice for the overlander. There were a number of reason why Land Rover was the preferred vehicle: Majority of trip started from the North and headed South across Africa. The cost of equipping a Land Rover was generally cheaper in the Northern hemisphere due to the availability of spare parts, overland accessories and certified mechanics. The Toyota Land Cruiser was becoming affordable, and offered an alternative to Land Rover. You can read all about Land Rover vs Toyota in the 2010 report: Which Overlander?

AutomotiveTouchup paint products are custom mixed to perfectly match the color of your 2010 Land Rover LR2 using a basecoat/clearcoat system just like factory specs. To insure a proper match, you鈥檒l need to know your vehicle鈥檚 color code so you can find it on the chart below. Click here for Land Rover paint code images and location chart. Don't see your color listed? We probably have it. Did you choose the wrong vehicle model? Why The Two-Step Paint System? Great match on my Santorini Black paint on 2010 Land Rover LR2! Thank you very much for the PERFECT MATCH! In the past several years I have purchased a variety of touch up paint colors and other products from this firm. I have never been disappointed with anything!

You can read through a more comprehensive description of the sequences on their web site. It seems that ACEA oil sequences are revised approximately every two years. In my Owners Manual Land Rover prescribes that sequence B2-96 be used. This means that the sequence B2 of 1996 is prescribed. Just for interest sake, there is a Global specification (DHD 1) on diesel engine oil that is developed by the ACEA in conjunction with EMA (Engine Manufacturers Association) and JAMA (Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association). This global performance specification is developed for four stroke-cycle heavy duty diesel engines. They define heavy duty diesel engines as diesel engines used in vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 3900kg. or higher. This indicates that it is not really applicable to the Defender but in my opinion it can certainly be beneficial. Again the question arises regarding the appropriateness of using heavy duty diesel engine oil in an engine which is not really a heavy duty diesel engine. I posed this question to Land Rover in the UK.

The boxy earlier versions and the Defender were no oil paintings, but they did the job of off-roading better than just about anything else out there. And after my time with the fifth-generation, 2017 Discovery, I can say that this probably still stands true. Being nearly 500kg lighter than the old model, after abandoning its old-style chassis and going for a monocoque construction comprising 85 per cent aluminium, it feels much more nimble and reacts to steering changes faster. But it鈥檚 the outstanding electronic Terrain Response System where the car really shines. Depending on the setting it reacts to snow, mud, ice, gravel, road and more. And during our time, we encountered all of the above including several put together in one mushy, muddy, snowy, desert quagmire in the Utah highlands. A particularly challenging 80-metre drop down a 30 per cent gradient sand dune that had a thin layer of ice on top with snow atop, tested the downhill descent control perfectly. Never touching the pedals, it guided us down easily without slipping on the snow or getting bogged down in the sand.

The first-generation Range Rover was sold from the mid-1980s until the 1995 model year, and it's affectionately dubbed the Classic (or Range Rover Classic) by the brand's enthusiasts. Range Rover Classic models in the U.S. 1990s versions touted short- or more desirable long-wheelbase body styles. All U.S. models featured a V8 powerplant and an automatic transmission. Beginning in 1996, the Range Rover's second-generation model, dubbed the P38 by Land Rover geeks, made its debut. Sold through 2002, the P38 Range Rover dramatically upped the luxury quotient, adding a far plusher interior and many more modern comfort and convenience features. Only one wheelbase was offered, but two V8s (a 4.0-liter and a 4.6-liter) were available. The Range Rover received its third full redesign for the 2003 model year, using architecture largely developed by BMW during that automaker's stewardship of the Land Rover brand. Initially powered by a BMW V8 engine, the third-generation Range Rover earned a face-lift for the 2006 model year that saw the arrival of a new transmission and a more powerful Jaguar-Land Rover V8. The SUV was face-lifted once again in 2010 to offer more power and additional equipment.

Overland Expedition & Adventure Travel : This "Mum's Taxi" Could Be Your Next Expedition 4wd..

It might be a well known "mum's taxi" but have you considered the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado as your expedition vehicle? We all know about the Land Cruiser Troopy, the popular 80-Series but what about the 120-Series as a vehicle option for overland travel? Stacked within the ranks of the Land Cruiser naming standards, the 120-Series is typically known as the Prado (or in the UK, the LC3). The 120-Series entered the vehicle market in 2003 replacing the six year old 90-Series (known as the Colorado in the UK). The Land Cruiser brand personifies reliability, durability and the Toyota 'sameness'. The brand attracts loyal follows who actively defend their vehicle decision especially against Land Rover fanatics. To keep the naming standards simple, I will refer to the 120-Series as the 'Prado'. Admittedly majority of Prado's are used as "mum's taxi" due to the 8-seat layout. Remove the Prado from an urban environment and you have a comfortable overland tourer offering ample interior space with good access, and a comfort level that will ensure the roughest drives are handled with ease.

I'll continue my efforts to hike up Mariuolumne Dome. I got kinda lost on my first attempt. Mojave Desert I'd like to hike up Kokoweef Peak, as well as Cowhole Mountain. South Park There's a place high in the moutains east of Ballarat called South Park. It's a meadow-like area with terrific views across Butte Valley and is only accessible via 4wd trails from the west. Toroweap I want to return to camp at Toroweap. I've been there several times before and it's a stunningly beautiful place. Sierra Trails I didn't make it up north in 2008 to drive some of the Sierra 4wd trails with friends. I hope to get up there to drive some of the great trails in the Tahoe area and I'm sure to find more if I look hard enough. On review, the list isn't very challenging. I must subconsciously be wanting to slack off for 2009. I need to find some real challenges to throw into the mix. I welcome any suggestions you may offer.

The classic Land Rover Defender is a favorite among dedicated members of the off-road and overlanding communities. Soon, they鈥檒l have a new version to covet. Jaguar Land Rover is deep into development on the latest Defender, a four-wheel-drive SUV with extreme off-road capability. The Defender is expected to stick to its rugged roots while modernizing its interior and ride quality to meet current expectations in the luxury market. The 2020 Land Rover Defender is expected to debut early next year. What does the 2020 Land Rover Defender look like? True to its original design, the 2020 Defender is boxy. The new SUV is characterized by straight lines and sharp corners. The front bumper has a slight curve, and the windshield is aggressively angled for aerodynamics. Otherwise, the Defender is immediately recognizable due to its upright posture and short front and rear overhangs, meant to aid off-road capability. Exterior of the 2020 Land Rover Defender 110, the vehicle's four-door version.

After a couple of false starts, I left home around 0330 on a Sunday morning in July. The drive was good although loud, I wore earplugs, as I went thru the SF bay area and across California's Central Valley and headed into the Sierra Nevada Mtns. The 109 began to heat up and one of the things I needed to sort out was the electric fan, I wasn't sure it was coming on. Up and down I went along with the temp gauge, at one point it was around 230掳F and I knew the fan was not coming on. So I pulled over and lifted the bonnet, pulled off the rubber cover and started adjusting the set screw(counter clockwise) until the fan came on. Then it shut quickly off so I adjusted it more, and again, and again until it stayed on a bit. I think that now it is coming on around 220 and off around 190. I can tell when it kicks on/off when the voltmeter needle moves.

Overland Expo 2019, April 16-18, 2019

Overland Expo 2019, April 16-18, 2019

We found the Arizona Land Rover Owners (AZLRO) camping area. Several people were already there. We set up our Rover then headed over to the Expo. There was a Snow Peak demonstration at 4 pm that I really wanted to see. Grace was whining about it taking too long. I was really interested in seeing their Japanese Dutch Ovens. I have been cooking with my Lodge Cast Iron for years and was wanting to see these in action. Much to my surprise, the Snow Peak guys were using an American cast iron pan on the Snow Peak stove. So, I assume if they were not using them, then they are not very good. But they did have the Snow Peak cooking table set up. The table set up is very nice! I would love to have one of them with all the accessories. It sure would make cooking a lot easier. Once the food was done, Grace was no longer complaining.

Having this technology seemed to be a little downside because the models became heavier, compromising agility and performance. The models also had a full independent suspension that enabled ride-height adjustment by pumping or deflating the airbags. Despite some downsides, ride quality could be experienced both during off-road and high-speed driving; the road clearance of the units could be adjusted for better handling. Other improvements included a multiple electronic traction control system, an on-board computer system, a DVD navigation system, and other luxurious perks. Units made in this generation merely had improvements from the previous ones. The look of the models was made smoother by restyling the front and rear lights, front grille, and bumper. To provide a better engine output, two turbochargers were used; the first one was a variable geometry turbocharger at low engine speeds, while the other one was a standard turbo at higher engine speeds. Of course, the interiors were updated by restyling the instrument cluster and installing a TFT screen that displayed tons of data in different modes and formats. There was an optional Surround Camera System that allowed the installation of cameras in the headlamps, rear tailgate handle, and wing mirrors; this let the driver see the outside of the vehicle from various angles when off-road or parking. These models were also made fuel efficient with the use of a Smart alternator, which only charged the battery during a low-load engine.

Chief Executive Bob Dover explains, It is essential that people instantly recognise the new vehicle as a Range Rover. The exterior is modern yet retains all the distinctive styling cues. It also introduces some new ones. We get a return to round headlamps, plus we get vertically stacked indicator units, a design cue nicked from the utilitarian Defender. This feature is mirrored with the tail lights and indicators, narrowed to allow a wide opening tailgate. Prices for the 4.4-litre petrol V8 start at 拢38,000 for an early 2002 SE model on a 51 plate. An equivalent HSE will command 拢40,500 and the lavishly equipped Vogue will retail at around 拢45,500 for a well looked after model with around 31,000 miles on the clock. The 3.0-litre Td6 diesel models are a little more affordable, with prices opening at 拢36,000 for an SE, 拢38,600 for an HSE and 拢42,500 for a Vogue model.

If you are interested in a small SUV with off-road capabilities, this vehicle will set you back between P335,000 for early models released ten years ago to P800,000 among later models. If you want 4WD, only the 2.4 does not have it so hunt for other engine displacements. Keeping this baby won't set you back big bucks nor your kidney but Suzuki parts cost more than the average Japanese competition. Problem points for this vehicle involve the aircon and the engine support, so have these checked prior to buying. As an economical choice, this isn't the one since city driving will fall below 10kms to a liter and the V6 drinks more than a drunken man. Timeless looks and a rugged exterior makes this SUV silently stands out in a crowd. Throughout the years, the grille was changed only once. Let us leave the design alone which speaks for itself. Going inside, this vehicle will treat you to lots of space which can fit five people comfortably. The interior controls are logically placed but some interior touches feel cheap, despite the fact this one is a CBU from Japan.

Overland Expedition & Adventure Travel : Land Rover Discovery

Overland Expedition & Adventure Travel : Land Rover Discovery

Land Rover Discovery - A reliable Overland Vehicle? Is the Land Rover Discovery a capable trans-continental overland vehicle? Throughout decades of overland travel the Land Rover Series and Defender have been successfully crossing continents. In this post, I provide examples of the Land Rover Discovery and its role in Trans-Africa overland trips. I focused specifically on independent overland websites which opted to use a Land Rover Discovery as the preferred vehicle. The Land Rover Discovery is a mid-size SUV, with off-road capabilities, from the British car maker Land Rover; a subsidiary of Tata Motors. Superior comfort compared to the Land Rover Defender. Majority of Discovery's include sunroofs and air conditioning. In the UK, the Discovery is very affordable compared to the Defender. In each of the examples below, the Overlanders have opted for various modifications - from the standard roofrack and tent, to a fully plumbed in fresh water tanks and long range fuel tanks. First introduced in 1989, the Land Rover Discovery launched in a market that was ready for a medium size 4x4. Similar to the Defender, this vehicle offers excellent offroad capability plus the interior offered comfort and airconditioning.

Land Rover also said the Range Rover was in danger of looking like a bus or a van if the bonnet was made much shorter, so the new car will retain familiar proportions in order to appeal to existing customers. The same approach was adopted for the updated Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport. The new MLA platform allows an electric motor to be placed on each axle to give the car four-wheel drive. A battery up to 100kWh in size can be fitted, which would give the electric Range Rover a range of over 300 miles between charges. Fast-charging should be fitted as standard, so you鈥檒l be able to recharge to 80% capacity in under an hour. See where the Range Rover ranks on our lists of the best large SUVs and the most comfortable cars to buy this year. Were the subject of this 2015 Ford Focus road test and review a person, it would be the one exceptionally ell-rounded individual people think of as having 鈥渋t all鈥? Think about it; the Focus offers an athletic driving experience, decided frugality in terms of its pricing structure and fuel consumption, considerable intelligence in terms of its tech quotient, and a stylish鈥攜et down to earth appearance. Now that we think about it, if the Ford Focus really were a person, a lot of people would probably be hating on it because it鈥檚 so cool. A true world car in every sense of the phrase, Ford offers the Focus, or some version of the Focus, in pretty much every market in which the company does business. Thoroughly made over for the 2015 model year, Ford鈥檚 Focus got new exterior styling, a revised interior treatment, new infotainment and safety systems, as well as a new ultra-efficient engine option. The base trimmed Focus model is Focus S, which is accompanied by Focus SE and Focus Titanium. Focus SE adds alloy wheels, automatic headlights, cruise control, power rear windows, and steering wheel mounted audio controls.

Overland Expedition & Adventure Travel : Expedition Land Rovers Through The Generations

Overland Expedition & Adventure Travel : Expedition Land Rovers Through The Generations

What is it about the image of a dusty Land Rover parked on the rolling savanna of Africa? Is it the thought of exploration, freedom, and adventure? In this blog, I link to a few Land Rover expeditions that have been used through the generations. Since the very first Land Rover rolled off the production line, these vehicles have been used on expeditions across the world. Here's a quick reference of overland trips which have used the Land Rover as the vehicle of choice throughout the Land Rover Generations. I have not included any of the new generation Land Rovers, namely, the Range Rover, Discovery and Freelander. This blog focuses on the original design and the various modifications that have enabled the vehicle to be the perfect choice for a vehicle based expedition. George Adamson drove from the UK back to Kenya as part of his honeymoon with Joy. His book, Bwana Game, tells the short story of his trip in his Series I Land Rover. The following photos are scans from his book.

Land Rover is the perfect combination of all-terrain vehicle and luxurious performance car. At Eurocar-Werk, we have been servicing and repairing Land Rovers and Range Rovers since they were introduced into the U.S. April 1986. Our mechanics know and respect these vehicles. You'll notice a difference in the amount of pride we take in the quality of our service. So whether you use your Land Rover for off-roading and now your LR3's suspension has a fault, or your LR2鈥檚 rear differential simply needs an inspection, trust Eurocar-Werk. We have a wealth of Land Rover I had to look at the tach to see if it had started. Slide the six-speed automatic鈥檚 shifter into "D" (or "L" if you want to use the non-intuitive buttons on the side of the lever to swap cogs), and you're on your way. The transmission shifts smoothly on the way up. But when you floor it, the tranny jerks as the autobox drops a couple of gears to propel the 2.5-ton family hauler with some semblance of alacrity. The Acadia鈥檚 not quick but neither does it block traffic; its 275hp 3.6-liter V6 ambles the big rig from rest to 60 miles per hour in just under eight seconds. Because of the CUV's smooth ride and abundant sound insulation, once sufficient speed is attained, it鈥檚 a pleasure to putter about town or cruise the interstate.

Why don鈥檛 CX-5鈥檚 sell like the others? Does it have a poor reliability rating by Consumer Reports? I鈥檝e read conflicting things about its reliability, and I can鈥檛 imagine it would come close to the Camry anyway, which is why I鈥檒l probably still proceed to buy the Camry. Does it have a really poor resale value? Are they expensive to maintain and repair and not mechanic friendly (I want something inexpensive to maintain because I have a BMW now!)? Are parts not readily available if you need something fixed? Is it because the CX-5 only has two generations and only been around since 2013 and not proven like the others? Does Mazda not stand behind their product after the sale? Does it cost more to insure? Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I don鈥檛 understand the sales figures because I've read great things about the CX-5 and people seem to like it.

Overland Expedition & Adventure Travel : History Of The Africa Overland Network

Overland Expedition & Adventure Travel : History Of The Africa Overland Network

I came to the conclusion that the only way the site could grow would be through a professional web design and the ability for easy uploads and management. A new concept I started in 2001 was the use of a guestbook to allow people to advertise their trip - after about 80 odd trips, the concept evolved and vanished. I have always been interested in overland books - this layout, attempted to list books as I read them. In 2008 I opted to spend a lot of money to have the website modified with an admin system as the process of creating a new BIO page was taking to long and the formatting was always different. The result was the new look and feel, which offered easier access, plus the ability to search for trips. Evolving ever further, another need sprung up and that was the ability to keep updated with new content. Thanks to the concept of RSS feeds, Overland-Live now uses Google Reader to collect and present all the latest video, diary, photo and forum updates. And not to mention, the new concept of Twitter. That鈥檚 about it for the history of The Africa Overland Network. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

A positive self-talk statement is a comment you make to yourself on a regular, frequent basis to reprogram your conscious mind with an idea, belief, reality or attitude that you choose for yourself. How often have you doubted yourself either before or after an athletic performance or event? Positive self-statements are a powerful way to replace negative 聯mind chatter聰 in your conscious mind. Why do Positive Self-Statements Produce Results? Positive self-statements help to reprogram the mind. They are the nourishment the mind and personal self-esteem need to reprogram a belief in self. They are the encouragement statements that cultivate new thoughts to take root and grow. As you continue to repeat the statements, the new thoughts become stronger and permeate your unconscious mind until a new belief system is fully established, flourishing, and bearing positive results in your daily performance. Some statements take root rapidly and bear fruit quickly. Other issues or thought patterns require more time before they ripen and bear new fruit or new performance thought patterns. I worked with an athlete for an entire season to overcome his belief that he was an unsuccessful pitcher - that could not throw strikes no matter how hard he tried.

Mazda6 is a sporty, midsize front-wheel-drive sedan. The Mazda6 was redesigned for the 2009 model and has a more sophisticated exterior and interior design as well as being larger. Inline-4-cylinder (in "i" models) and V-6 ("s" models) engines are available in the Sport, Touring and Grand Touring trim levels. The lineup grows with new trims that include things such as power moonroof, ground illumination, electroluminescent gauges, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, anti-theft device and blind spot warning system. The American version of the Mazda6 is much larger than the Mazda6 sold elsewhere. The rounded instruments and a three-spoke steering wheel integrate nicely into the T-shaped instrument panel. The radio and center controls are tilted up to enhance functionality for the driver. Blacked-out instrument faces have metallic needles and trim. All trim levels get 60/40-split folding rear seats with remote capability. The Mazda6 features a front and rear independent suspension. 4-cylinder and V-6 options are normal in this segment, but the standard 6-speed manual transmission (with the 4-cylinder) plays up Mazda's performance roots. There are also two automatic transmission offerings: The 4-cylinder engine can have an optional 5-speed automatic transmission, and the V-6 comes with a standard 6-speed automatic. A manual is not available with the V-6.

So with the easy word tracks above, we can easily start at the bottom of the price points, and if the buyer doesn't like what's available, they'll simply bump in price and payment. And as a result, you can use this switch as a vise grip in the negotiating process. And at that point if they understand the basic math, it would make it a whole lot easier to switch to a cheaper, similar car. In the end, it's all about setting up your customer for an easy sell, again make it aware to them the scope of the price without actually talking price or payment on the lot. Conclusively, the product selection step is important to make sure you can make the most out of your commission. 15k pre-owned car, the more money and spiffs you can make. Play around with your own wordtracks and see what will work in your local market and customers. It's all about adapting to your customer preferences that can lead to a successful and quick sale. And more importantly, be interested in your customer's wants, ask all the questions to get the customer involved. Questioning is what controls the conversation, keep this in mind and use it until your tongue falls off. Aren't all the customers that pay all the money the most satisfied?
