1960 Land Rover Restoration: 07/01/2019
Today the original bulkhead arrived back. Peter and Dave happened to pick the hottest and most humid day of the summer so far (32 C) to do this, not to mention they drove all the way here (some 4 hours each way) without air conditioning! But they did it, and brought with them the very beautifully restored original bulkhead for the Land Rover. Everything I had hoped for, and more. The only downside (just kidding) is that the bulkhead has to wait another 12 days for the primer to fully cure, before it can be painted! In this view, Dave contemplates how to move the original chassis up onto the trailer, while other Land Rover parts lie around the garden. It's probably the only time there will be two useable bulkheads here! Ashtree bulkhead rests in the grass, while the 3 Bros. Dave and Peter rigged a small axle to the rear springs, which made pushing onto the trailer extremely easy. Peter (left) and Dave secure the chassis and Ashtree bulkhead to the trailer. A little sad to see the old chassis go, but very good to have the extra space in the garage plus to know that the chassis will most likely go on to give life to another old Land Rover. The interior of the tub sees direct sunlight for probably the first time in many years. Note the original insulation on the front of the tub, which will stay (although it will be made to look better). A nice lawn ornament! The newly arrived bulkhead indoors. Aside from a couple of holes to be drilled in the new footwells, it's just a pleasure to have the original bulkhead with all the original holes - exactly where they should be, of course! And finally a look at the garage now.
Skoda's flagship hatchback, the Superb, has been updated for 2019. The facelift has added new bumpers, a different grille, LED headlights and new Skoda lettering on the boot, along with the various specification changes. The Superb is a rival for the Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport, Mazda 6 and also the Volkswagen Passat, which was also recently facelifted. The Skoda and VW share an engine range thanks to their MQB architecture: we鈥檝e driven a 1.5-litre petrol model with 148bhp and a manual gearbox, which is also available in the Passat. With emissions of 120g/km, this engine is a good option for fleet buyers, who make up a big proportion of Superb owners. However, if you鈥檙e considering a company car, be aware that a tax-busting plug-in hybrid version will arrive in 2020. Big mileage drivers may still be better served by the super-frugal diesel, too. The 1.5-litre engine is smooth and very quiet in the Superb, and goes together well with the light, satisfying manual gear shift. However, long ratios that help enable that low CO2 figure do hurt performance.

They are coming to pick up my car on Wednesday and deliver a loaner. I had trade in and it's been over 30 days and they still refuse to pay me my money for trade in. They say it takes about 40 days! During our 4 night stay we watched hippo fights and croc movements; even lion hunting antelope and zebra grazing only the other side of the bush from us; from our tent verandas. It was a special campsite indeed! People like to party camping, granted but this should not be such a place to overcome so experiences as those in the Mara! I was starting to realise while Thury was not wanting to spend his main journey with that vehicle. The same lady felt the need to go 鈥榮hopping鈥?in the gift shop at the one hotel, rather than game drive the last morning. Need I say more? During the whole stay Thury cooked us interesting culinary delights and kept an eye on our belongings and campsite whilst we went out to play. We did have sights of African plains with thousands of wildebeest grazing, that alone you have to actually see to appreciate. A big landscape, I mean very big, filled with strange looking cattle!
