This Was A Very Scenic Drive

A shiny object drew my attention. It was an old aluminized mylar balloon. I picked it up and trashed it at a gas station. After stopping to take some photos (in the middle of nowhere), I almost stepped on a small rattlesnake. The little guy expressed his unhappiness by rattling quite loudly. It was about a foot long. In the first shot, he's looking at me. In this shot, he's squared off against my Land Rover. The sandy sections would have been easier if I'd gone the opposite direction. As it was, I hit each one going up hill. There were 3 sandy sections. The one just southwest of Old Dad Mountain is short and I'd describe it as deep sand (maybe 8 inches). This is the same spot I played in a week ago (see my post below). Here's a pic of the very deep sand, uphill with Old Dad Mountain on the horizon.

The MZR 2.5-liter reached EPA figures of 20 city and 28 highway with a manual transmission and 22 city and 29 highway with automatic transmission. Mazda 3 earned a good reputation for its treatment sporty and exciting, offering a pleasant driving experience with emphasis on the consistency of the driver's expectations and your car answers. Inheriting this pedigree, updated 2012 Mazda 3, except to further strengthen this sense of unity between driver and car, but also offers a comfortable driving experience, that all passengers can feel and enjoy a variety of driving situations. Referred to the effect Toitsukan, linear and uniform is more specifically in the establishment of a smooth transition between acceleration, deceleration and lateral G forces in response to the fundamentals of driving, turning and stopping. This idea is not simply to give a strong response to the operations of the accelerator and steering for sporty driving, but rather to provide a linear view of the car all the answers to the control of driver operations.

This saves you money as even a great running V8 can't come close to that figure. The V8s typically get about 12-15 mpg. So you'll save on your fuel bills. Those of you who own a Defender 90 you know the downfalls of having roughly a 200 mile range in your tank with the V8. The same fuel tank is utilized in our Defender conversions, and the Tdi will extend the range to over 350 miles in the same vehicle! You'll stop for fuel less and if you go off roading in remote places you won't have to carry as many cans of spare gas. Think of the range in your 110! Gone are the days when most customers would have been scared off by diesel engines. Today's turbo diesel engines are powerful and efficient. They do not smoke or give off offensive diesel smells. The days of the leaky old diesel under the hood that won't get out of its own way are long gone. The Tdi's and Powerstrokes runs without a trace of smoke, and only gives a slight "poof" of smoke when cold starting, Operation of the glow plug starting system is now fully automatic.

The parallel sequential turbocharging system of the 3.0-litre diesel makes use of its larger, primary turbo most of the time. The smaller secondary turbo remains dormant when higher power is not required, reducing pumping losses and consequently, fuel consumption. A highly efficient, third generation common rail injection system with piezo injectors and fuel metering, also makes a substantial contribution to fuel economy. The new engine has been also been optimised for low-end torque as well as economy, making it possible to activate the lock-up clutch of the ZF HP-28 automatic transmission at lower speed. This reduces 'slip' in the hydraulic torque converter improving both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The higher torque at lower rpm also enables longer gearing for more economical cruising. The Discovery incorporates several other energy saving features too. At standstill, the idle speed of the V6 has been reduced from 750rpm to 710rpm, giving a fuel saving without compromising refinement.

Then there's a section of very very deep sand that's west of Sands. I really did not want to drive through that and was happy to find an alternate route. I've marked that on the map. Here's a shot of the road condition, about 10 miles SW of Sands, looking toward Sands. I didn't spend much time at Sands. I'm not that strong of a history buff. It looked like a desolate place, although the wildflowers are in bloom. I don't think I'd enjoy living there. Just north of Sands, the NPS has signed the roads as they enter the Mojave National Preserve. If you have any interest in driving to Sands, now is a fine time to do it. The weather isn't too hot. The sand isn't too deep. And Jackass Canyon is in great condition. Here's a few videos. I deleted the audiotracks because my GoPro camera's audio is hosed and really noisy. This first one is when I crossed the very deep sand north of Sands. You can see Old Dad Mountain off in the distance to the north. The second video is going through the deep sand west of Old Dad heading toward Jackass Canyon. I didn't use a running start for this so I got bogged down a bit, but made it through without a problem.

Editor's note: This article was originally published on Tuesday, September 10th at 4:00AM EST. It has been updated with live photos taken at the Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany where the Defender made its official debut. The Land Rover Defender is England's most iconic 4x4, and possibly one of the country's most well-recognized vehicles, period. Now, for the first time in essentially forever, Land Rover has completely redesigned the Defender for 2020. Gone are the solid axles and ladder frame, but the new Defender promises to be rugged, capable and customizable鈥攋ust like the original. And yes, it will be available in the United States. The 2020 Defender will be available in two body styles: the two-door Defender 90, and the four-door Defender 110. The 90 will seat five people, or six in a pinch with the optional fold-down front-middle seat. The Defender rides on an all-new aluminum unibody platform named D7x, not shared with any other Land Rover model.

Whatever your fantasy or the fantasy movie theme you've picked - you can turn your living room into an enchanting and secret destination for the two of you, for one night only! Even though it鈥檚 more conventional than its (indirect) predecessor the Juke, the Nissan Kicks offers plenty of style points and a look that gives it a more youthful vibe. For the most visual pop, pair the two-tone exterior with wildly colored wheel inserts and interior trim. For maximum head-turning style, customize your Kicks through Nissan鈥檚 Color Studio program to truly make it your own. The Jaguar I-Pace is the first all-electric crossover to challenge Tesla, and it鈥檚 also one of the most eye-catching. Looking like a low-slung four-door fastback from the future, the I-Pace can raise itself up for additional ground clearance when needed. The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe is the baby brother of the GLE Coupe, and like its larger sibling it slaps a fastback rear end on an SUV body. Like others of its breed, the GLC Coupe鈥檚 sloping roofline gives it an unconventional shape, allowing it to stand out even more at the cost of some utility.
