When I dipped the letters I covered part of the car around the letters with newspaper and just sprayed on the car and letters at the same time. After a few coats, I removed the plastic off the car and left it on the letters to get that effect. I did not take them off. However, that is an option! When the top is partly folded there is another thing you want to check - the cables. These new automatic tops need to fold into a tight space to be hidden under the rear deck. To do that they rely on cables sewn into the top lining. Loops of wire around those cables pull the top fabric against the bows and fold everything properly.
