The two-row crossover is more practical than the Evoque, helping to keep up the pressure on rivals such as the Acura RDX and BMW X3. Land Rover introduced the Freelander, predecessor to the Discovery Sport, to the U.S. 2002 as a four-door SUV or a two-door with a removable top. The SUV came standard with 2.5-liter V-6 paired to a five-speed automatic with all-wheel drive. The Freelander name was dropped for the U.S. LR2, was released for the 2008 model year. The redesigned LR2 was roomier, plusher, more powerful, and more versatile then the outgoing Freelander.
