2019 Hyundai Elantra - Los Angeles Auto Show

2019 Hyundai Elantra - Los Angeles Auto Show

Having these targets paid huge dividends in both performance and fuel economy. The Elantra's widespread use of high-strength steel provides a 37 percent increase in body stiffness at a lower body weight. High-strength steel allows the suspension to work optimally. At 2,701 pounds, the automatic transmission Elantra GLS is lighter than its competitors, while offering more interior room than Focus, Cruze, Civic and Corolla, with body-bending rigidity 50 percent higher than the Corolla. This weight efficient unibody architecture allows for Elantra to achieve an estimated 40 mpg EPA highway rating, without the need for a special eco model. Inside the Elantra, customers will find Hyundai's expertise in interior packaging, lighting, leading-edge design and craftsmanship. This approach is visible in the clarity of the instruments and the tilt and telescopic steering wheel. The seats help fuel economy and the environment, being made of lightweight, environmentally friendly foam. Heated seats are available in the front and the rear, a segment first.

I would encourage you to look at a demountable camper as an option for an overland trip - the ideal journey would be trans-continental in a colder climate i.e. Asia Overland. My thoughts are that in the hotter climates like Africa, the ventilation in the camper would not be sufficient to make it a good experience. There are not many occasions that you would consider demounting the camper (on a typical overland expedition) however a good option would be in the various game parks. Demount the camper, and you have very quick and easy access to the vehicle for those early morning drives. My understanding is that the LR Defender 130 rear load bin is to deep to mount the EC7 camper. As a result, the load bid needs a platform fitted for the camper to rest on. The raised platform will allow for additional storage (a good thing). The photo on the right is from the Reisemobil Ludwig website. Note the extra length of the load bin compared to the Ford Ranger.

The Land Rover Range Rover full-size luxury 鈥榰te boasts a new all-aluminum unibody structure helps reduce the curb weight of an amazing 700 pounds compared to the old model. Under the Sheet-metal, a new fully independent air suspension lifts the aluminum unibody Range Rover severe off-road conditions. Front More and rear wheel travel and pneumatically cross-linked air springs simulate the type of compliance available only solid axles, which further improve the ability of the outgoing model鈥檚 already formidable. Ground clearance up to 0.67 inches for a total of 11.9 inches when the air suspension is raised to its position at the top. Other new electric power steering fit the outgoing model by using the movement of the wheel but actually slower to help keep the 鈥渞elaxed character鈥?of the previous Range Rovers. Six-piston Brembo front brakes are standard, and both the brake discs are great - 14.96 inches up front and 14.37 inches out back.

Land Rover North America and Equinox, The Vermont Resort and a registered historic landmark and the second longest-continuously operating hotel in the United States, announced the opening of an all-new driving school offered exclusively at Equinox. The Land Rover Experience Driving School will be part of the resort's outdoor amenity offerings and will be open year round to guests and daytime visitors of the 195-room luxury hotel property. The off-road driving school at Equinox features off-pavement driving instruction in the spring, summer and fall as well as snow and ice driving techniques during the winter. Using the latest Land Rover line-up, including the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Land Rover LR3 and Land Rover LR2 vehicles, participants will learn to properly navigate ascents, descents, side-tilts and rocky terrain on the 80-acre purpose-built course. The degree of difficulty ranges from introductory courses to more advanced off-road training sessions on an extensive trail system that runs through the Green Mountains.

The Land Rover LR4 is a mid-size sport-utility vehicle aimed at those who want to combine a luxurious interior and top-notch comfort with serious off-road ability. The current competitive set for the LR4 includes the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Audi Q7, Lexus GS 460, Volkswagen Touareg, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Compared to the LR3 before it, the LR4 looks a little better detailed inside and outside. On the exterior, the look is tall and tough. The Land Rover LR4 is by no means clumsy on the pavement, but it takes an off-road trail for this model to truly shine. That said, it's strong on the boulevard or the highway; the 375-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8 that's shared with Jaguar is impressive and capable of rocketing this nearly 6,000-pound SUV to 60 mph in around 7.5 seconds. The six-speed automatic shifts smoothly, the full-time four-wheel drive system does quite well with wet or snow-covered highways, and the fully independent suspension deals well with pockmarked streets.
