2019 Land Rover Defender Hybrid Spied With A Winch
Another interesting part of this prototype lurks behind the front bumper and burly brush guard. There's a Warn winch mounted in the lower grille area. It would seem strange to fit one if the company wasn't planning on offering it with production vehicles. It wouldn't be the first vehicle to be offered with a factory winch, nor one with it hidden behind the bumper. The Ram 2500 Power Wagon comes with a winch in that very spot. We should have more clarity regarding these features when the Defender is revealed this fall. The company hasn't finalized whether the unveiling will be at an auto show or not, but the Frankfurt Motor Show in September seems like a safe bet. As we mentioned earlier, the new Defender is mechanically different from the old model, but visually it's heavily inspired by the old SUV with its boxy body and multiple wheelbases and door counts. It will also once again be offered in the U.S.
Those parts won鈥檛 last till 200k either, and if they fail, the timing belt can come off, leading to thousands of dollars in preventable engine damage. All cars leak oil and coolant when they get old. Audis are no exception. The thing is, you can fix many of those leaks easily when the engine is apart. A few extra hours may get rid of those annoying drips. And drips can be more than an annoyance. When oil or coolant leaks onto the exhaust, it鈥檚 a fire hazard. When oil gets hot in summer, it makes an acrid stink that can be drawn inside the car when the AC is running. Those are a few of the good reasons to fix your leaks while the motor is open. What about everything else under the hood? I believe a good technician should look the whole engine bay over carefully when doing any big job.
We pretty much accomplished that, and also muddied the HD camera he affixed to various surfaces of the LR2. During his driving segment, Greg is frustrated by a hesitant driver in front of us. It was the equivalent of a horse reneging at a jump in an equestrian competition. Finally, Greg develops some patience, and waits for the slow poke to get well out of sight before plowing through the terrain. Getting in and out of the vehicle, even in relatively dry spots, resulted in mud being spread over the fine leather and carpet of the LR2鈥檚 interior. Somehow, it didn鈥檛 seem to be like sullying similar surfaces of, say, a S500 Mercedes. The LR2 has that air of aristocratic luxury that is used to such wilderness treatment and easy cleanup. If this LR2 were put up on a lift, it certainly would show some serious scratches on its skid plates.
