2019 Land Rover Defender Release Date

2019 Land Rover Defender Release Date

Now, eight years later it brings back the mean off-road SUV. Of course, differences from the concept and reality will be numerous. For now, we can鈥檛 claim all the details. But, the teaser photos show that the shape of the production model will be pretty similar to the concept. Well, initial reports said the new DC100 Defender should have arrived in 2015. We can now witness the company didn鈥檛 fulfill the expectations. JLR failed to deliver the new Defender back in 2015. But now, the 2020 Land Rover Defender is almost certain. Even the company released an official statement about its production with a teaser image. Also, we can see it is going to use a five-door layout. Furthermore, the camouflage unveils only the hashtag 鈥渂est 4脳4 so far鈥? We must wait to see what does it mean. Without questions, the Defender will be capable of an off-road drive. But there are also other models to beat to take the title. At first place, it is Toyota 4Runner with TRP package.

Much of that is attributable to its premium compact sibling, the Evoque, which was named North American Truck of the Year. But the LR2 is more representative of the brand鈥檚 swagger and DNA. For 2013, it鈥檚 got a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine (240 horsepower, 250 lb.-ft. 鈥檚 lighter and more powerful than the 3.2-liter inline six it replaces. Driving from Montreal to the test facility, we experience the LR2鈥檚 sophisticated ride on highways, through construction zones, and over back roads with varying degrees of smoothness and frost heaves. Snow squalls and wind buffet the LR2, but we鈥檙e cozy in the cabin with heated seats and steering wheel. The available cold weather package adds a heated windshield and washer nozzle jets (for both headlamps and windshield). Those washers got a good workout as my co-driver, Greg Carloss of Maryland Public Broadcasting鈥檚 MotorWeek TV magazine, and I make a pact to finish the off-road course with the muddiest LR2.

We look at HMI data to make improvements; for example, adding numbers on the screen for postcode entry. 鈥淭here are clear requirements for what needs to be where, based on science. Next it鈥檚 in to a workshop with an old XE sitting alongside a car that鈥檚 familiar to Rogers - his own Jaguar I-Pace. You鈥檇 think that the award-winning all-electric car would be ahead of the game on tech already, but there鈥檚 more to come. Rogers takes the back seat as software architect Russell Vickers talks us through some of the advanced features already being tested on his boss鈥檚 car. Rogers assures us that these apps won鈥檛 just live in the car鈥檚 own eco-system, but they can appear in an Apple or Android smartphone environment, too. That鈥檚 all well and good, but JLR has been slow to adopt Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its range of cars. However, perhaps the most exciting part of our demos was what happened to the older Jaguar XE sitting in the workshop.

Inside new Freelander, you鈥檒l only find two rows of seats, but both have ample of space. These are furbished with fine cloth or leather which depends on chosen package, while cabin trim is shaped with soft-touch materials that include wood and metallic finishes with Lux package. Dashboard has simple design and has large instrument panel with 7-inch color touch-screen that comes with audio system and optional hard disc navigation. Center console offers twin armrests with couple of cupholders between them. Safety always seems to be the problem with Land Rovers. Even though Freelander comes with pretty much everything you would expect, it just doesn鈥檛 offer a choice in optional features. Most notable missing features are blind-spot warning and lane-departure system. Besides that, it comes with airbag system, stability control, rear parking sensors and optional rearview camera. Fuel economy ratings are fine, but not as good as some competitors鈥? LR2 will take you as far as 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. 2015 Land Rover Freelander, or LR2 if you will, should continue the legacy of its predecessors. It might not be designed for off-road driving, but it also wouldn鈥檛 mind it. This is the cheapest vehicle in Rover鈥檚 lineup but that doesn鈥檛 mean it鈥檚 not a quality one. In fact, LR2 is solid compact SUV that offers all you could expect from it.
