Depending On The Market
While all eyes are on the new model, let Myk Belmonte evaluate the older model and if it is worth the buy. Before going to the subject of this review, let us have some bit of history here. Prior to 2003, a similar Mazda Proceed Marvie (and its Ford Raider twin) was made available during the 1990s whose underpinnings are derived from their pick-up truck counterparts. This concept was resurrected in 2003 with the Everest, which is only available in Asia, Central America, and The Bahamas. Although the platform is from the Ranger, a Mazda engine (no version from the Hiroshima based manufacturer is available) is utilized here. 2006 saw the release of the revised Ford Ranger/Mazda BT-50 twins and the Everest SUV version, which gained upgraded engines and some styling alterations. Depending on the market, one can get a 2.5 or 3.0 engines which has more power and CRDI technology.
NASA's next mission to Mars has another problem 鈥?finding a launch slot. The Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) is due to blast off in late 2011, two years later than originally planned. But so are several other missions that will require the use of an Atlas V rocket and the launchpad in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Squeezing MSL into the schedule could require buying a more powerful rocket, reworking the lander's heat shield for faster entry speeds, and hiring more workers to cut the time between launches. NASA's strategy for dealing with the cost overruns would not cancel or delay any other planned mission. Weighing in at one tonne, the rover will be the largest craft ever sent to land on Mars. Armed with a battery of ten instruments, it will search for evidence of past life. In December 2008, its original 2009 launch date was put back two years. This stemmed from problems with motors and gearboxes, which had not been tested fully for the Martian cold.

Earlier this year the government body DVSA who are responsible for safety on the roads, revealed that 3.4 million cars on British roads have been recalled but not fixed. These include some models of Toyota Yaris which, along with millions of cars worldwide, have been recalled after a fault with the Takata airbag used in them was discovered. Watchdog has heard from Yaris drivers who said they鈥檝e faced unacceptably long waits to have their potentially dangerous airbags replaced. Watchdog鈥?Live has also heard from dozens of Land Rover Discovery drivers who have experienced sudden and total engine failure, linked to a faulty crank shaft. Models of the Discovery dating back to 2009 have been recalled over various crank shaft issues in New Zealand, Canada, South Korea and China, but there has only been a limited recall of 219 cars in the UK. The DVSA told Watchdog Live that it is aware of a potential crank shaft problem with models of Land Rover Discovery. But it said that it does not consider engine failure alone a serious safety issue that warrants a recall.
