We wanted to create a new name which was innovative and different. A name which implies exclusivity and arouses emotions. Evoque is cosmopolitan and cross-continental, sophisticated and matches the car's urban elegance,' he added. Gerry McGovern, Land Rover design director said: 'The Range Rover is an iconic design that has stood the test of time and it's not difficult to see why. Like the current version, the original Range Rover is such a simple and memorable shape that is easily recognisable. The all-new Range Rover Evoque marks a bold evolution of Range Rover design, providing customers with a desirable, premium and compact car like SUV. In 2008 we introduced the LRX concept car: after a positive reception worldwide, the natural step for the business was to turn the LRX concept car into reality. Tonight we wanted to show the world that we have stayed true to our word and delivered a car that completely represents the spirit of the LRX concept. The all-new Range Rover Evoque will resonate with customers on an emotional level. Its unique silhouette accentuated by the distinctive falling roof and dramatic rising waistline creates a modern and relevant execution of the familiar Range Rover design language. This car makes a powerful statement of the Range Rover's brand intent to appeal to a wider audience,' he added.
You鈥檝e looked at those magical cars from Crewe for years, and often dreamed of buying one of your own. Perhaps you see yourself as a latter-day Bentley Boy, or you seek the elegance of Rolls-Royce. Now the time has come. You鈥檝e decided to do it. What should you buy? 50,000. If your budget is bigger, your range of choice is somewhat broader. When we talk about Rolls-Royce and Bentley from the 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s, we often use the term Crewe-built. This refers to the fact that both Bentley and Rolls were built under a single corporate ownership at the plant in Crewe, England. In 1998 the two brands were put up for sale, and in 2003 the went their separate ways. Bentley is now owned by VW and is still built in the Crewe plant. Crewe also retains parts and service support for the older cars. BMW bought the Rolls-Royce name and builds cars at a brand new facility in Goodwood, England. Moving back to the Crewe era, and the cars from the 1960s-1990s . Sedans are more practical, and cost less to buy.
Next: This luxury model by Infiniti got the accessories right but the interior very wrong. It takes more than a nice stereo system and cool tech to make owning a car an enjoyable experience. The 2015 Infiniti QX60 illustrates that perfectly. Owners reported mostly good things about the infotainment and general comfort. As far as driving (average) and interior dependability (terrible) went, QX60 is sorely lacking in quality. Next: Suburban鈥檚 GMC twin got hammered for powertrain dependability. Buying an all-new model in its first year always represents some kind of risk, and feedback for the 2015 GMC Yukon confirms this on several levels. While features and accessories showed few problems, Yukon鈥檚 powertrain (average) and body integrity (poor) left much to be desired. Even in a limited segment, used SUV buyers can do better than a 鈥?5 Yukon. Next: Dodge鈥檚 midsize SUV had poor ratings on several fronts. The first impressions owners reported to J.D.
In spite of what commentators refer to as 鈥榚conomic uncertainty鈥? the luxury car market seems to plough on regardless. No matter what state the economy is in, it remains in rude health. Wealth, it seems, can weather most financial storms. And that鈥檚 great news for the UK, which still leads the way in terms of luxury and high performance (and a combination of the two) car brands. Last week I entered the world of Rolls-Royce, driving the new Cullinan SUV - you can see the video below or on the Auto Express YouTube channel. It鈥檚 a car that鈥檚 divisive for some, but not, it seems, those who can afford such a thing. Rolls-Royce鈥檚 understanding of its clients鈥?wants and needs has led it to produce an SUV that delivers exactly what they want - it鈥檚 a stunning achievement. This week it鈥檚 the turn of McLaren to reveal what the company calls a Hyper-GT - the 拢2.1million Speedtail. The Woking company has thrived under the leadership of Mike Flewitt, producing a string of outstanding sports cars that are a hit with us and an increasing number of buyers. Financially, McLaren is a massive success. Meanwhile the Aston Martin revival continues apace, with the excitement of seeing and driving the latest models matched by the thought of what鈥檚 coming up in the coming years. Likewise, Bentley - now under the leadership of another Brit, Adrian Hallmark. It continues to grow with a range of beautifully made and great to drive cars that seem to complement, and not necessarily compete with, other British luxury marques. And one to watch? Now owned by Chinese company Geely (look at what it has done with Volvo) and with former Land Rover boss Phil Popham at the helm, it鈥檚 another British brand with exciting times ahead. Do you think Lotus has an exciting future?
