Future Planetary Exploration





The rover will search for organics on the surface at a second location after NASA's Mars Science Laboratory and will analyze samples gathered from up to two meters below the harsh surface. On the other side of the Atlantic, the proposed cuts to NASA's planetary program are creating more of a ruckus than I remember for any science program since the cancellation of the super collider. Press accounts of the dispute are common, including a substantial piece in the New York Times. Key Congressmen have sharply questioned NASA's management over the proposed cuts and have blocked the administration's proposed cuts to the planetary program for the current budget year. In the US, approved budgets are the law of the land and cannot be changed by the administration without approval by the appropriate Congressional committees. It is common when a new budget proposal seeks a new direction for the adminstration to ask for and receive permission to reallocated current funding to reflect the expected change. Press accounts suggest that the key tradeoff in Congressional deliberations will be between funding for commercial manned spaceflight systems and planetary exploration. The adminstration proposed substantial increases for the former and cuts for the latter. Congress' priorities appear to be the reverse, suggesting a heated debate between the two branches of government.





The Lambo press release says the Roadster's attachable wind deflector delivers "almost complete calm" at higher speeds - like there's anything calm about raging around in an Aventador. As is the case with the roof panels, the deflector can also be stowed in the front compartment when the top is back on. The Aventador Roadster also gets its own launch color, a new metallic blue dubbed Azzuro Thetis, whose color and shade varies, depending on the angle and intensity of the light. The color reportedly was inspired by the 1968 Miura Roadster concept shown at that year's Brussels auto show. The Roadster also gets special interior enhancements, specifically liberal use of leather called Sabbia Nefertem that Lambo says complements the Azzuro Thetis sheen. Being a Lamborghini and an Aventador, the experience is first and foremost about performance, and the Roadster will not disappoint -- at least in a straight line. Sending its 691 horsepower through Lamborghini's integrated shifting rod, seven-speed, automated single-clutch manual transmission to all four wheels, 0-60 comes in fewer than 3 seconds, with a top speed of more than 217 mph, according to Lamborghini. The Roadster's unique 20-inch front, 21-inch rear Dione forged aluminum wheels also help shave some 22 pounds over the Aventador hardtop's wheel/tire setup. We've driven and tested the coupe version of the Aventador several times over the past year, most notably during our 2012 Motor Trend Best Driver's Car competition. While approximately no one who buys the Aventador Roadster is necessarily worried about how it furiously belches out greenhouse gases, Lamborghini has applied state-of-the-art technologies make its big bull as efficient as possible. 407,000, not that its price matters to the folks with the cash to actually buy one.





On the other hand, InControl infotainment needs updates. For the 2020 Range Rover Evoque engine lineup is the same as before. There are two versions of the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Both are using a turbocharger. For the base and Convertible crossovers, there is a 240 hp and 250 lb-ft rated unit. It sends power through a 9-speed automatic transmission. The full-time all-wheel drive is the only mode for 2020 Range Rover Evoque. Auto gearbox offers manual control through paddle shifters. For Dynamic and Autobiography versions of the upcoming Range Rover Evoque, we have a stronger engine. The same unit is capable to deliver more power, and engineers are tuning it to burst 300 hp. It is a 14 hp improvement from current 286 horses. At the same time, torque will go over 300 pound-feet. After the revisit, the 2020 Range Rover Evoque will be able to stop the clock under 6 seconds for 0-60 mph sprint.





Styling is less of a departure, and simplicity and elegance are keywords. The grille was toned down to be more friendly, and the added length gives the Range Rover a suitably regal stance. The lighter body helps bring sterling performance. The launch model's 375-horsepower V-8 was as quick as the old supercharged version, at 6.5 seconds to 60 mph; the supercharged SUV's 5.1-second trip to 60 mph competes with Jaguar's XJR. Fuel economy is pegged at a 9-percent improvement. Off-road performance remains unparalleled鈥攖here's full-time four-wheel drive, an air suspension, a maximum of 12.2 inches of ground clearance, and available automatic Terrain Response that selects traction modes based on conditions, from mud to snow to rocks to pavement. Towing capability remains at 7,700 pounds maximum. The big Range Rover comes standard with two LCD screens up front; an 8.0-inch touchscreen handles infotainment on the center stack, while a 12.3-inch widescreen displays digital gauges.
