1960 Land Rover Restoration
They don't just look better, but they appear to work better, as well. The wiper motors had a great deal of difficulty dragging the previous wiper blades across the glass, the motors not being that strong, but tested today, the new blades swept smoothly back and forth. Not tried in heavy rain yet, but much more inclined to try now. Anyway, once installed, went for a drive to test the newly overhauled odometer/speedometer and the related speedo cable, the new wing mirrors and just to see what the Land Rover looked like with the new wipers. Below: the new wipers. The arm is stainless, but I think the pivot is chromed brass or something similar. Very nice quality parts. The arm surface even comes wrapped in plastic skin to make sure it's not scratched in transit, which must be removed when installing. An overall view. The arms are the correct 'spoon' type, and it feels nice to have something 'authentic' there to see through the glass. I think the original 1960 Land Rover had flat simple wiper blades, however, and I may eventually switch these ones out to be even more authentic - but only if they work well. A view from inside. All parts have a really nice finish. The arm length can be adjusted to the exact length you need by pressing the small tab at left, and then sliding the arm. A view outdoors. I was a little worried the new wipers might be 'flashy', especially on the old galvanizing, but they look fine. The new Allmakes wing mirrors are excellent: their convex shape is perfect, and visibility is superb - and their shape is historically accurate. An overall view in the sunshine, with the new wipers and the new wing mirrors. Speedometer and odometer are now working just fine.
The LR2 is an instantly recognisable Land Rover, as it follows the style doctrine to the tee. Neither sharp nor curvy, the LR2 is a fine looking car, but arguably very dated. Hold a picture of an original 1997 model against the one you see in the showroom today, and you will have to ask why Land Rover hasn鈥檛 bothered to change it. Were they so happy with the original that they didn鈥檛 think they needed to change it, or have they spent more time working on more fundamental problems, like reliability? Land Rover have somehow managed to make a car look good with absolutely no effort at all. The interior is, as you would expect in an entry-level model, mild. There is nothing notably wrong with it, and it is certainly better than most others, but it lacks a proper Land Rover character. The British marque only builds off-roaders, nothing else, so it鈥檚 not as if they haven鈥檛 a clue what they鈥檙e doing in this department, like BMW, but you would expect more. Sitting inside the LR2 leaves you feeling a little empty; it doesn鈥檛 feel like a Land Rover.
If you are a car aficionado, there is likely at least one Ford vehicle that makes your heart go pitter-patter. Even if you prefer Pontiac or Chevrolet vehicles, no car lover would pass up an opportunity to own a Shelby Mustang GT500 or other classics that Ford has produced. For those that are big fans of Ford Motor Company, there are plenty of cars, trucks and even tractors for you to select from when looking for a new automobile or piece of farm equipment. Still, what do you really know about Ford Motor Company? You may be surprised by what you have to learn about this American automobile manufacturer. 28,000 that he received from twelve different investors, the company has grown into a juggernaut within the automotive industry. 279.264 billion that same year, the company is ranked third among U.S. While General Motors and Toyota have taken the first and second place spots, Ford had five vehicles rank at the top of the list on J.D. Power and Associates' quality survey listings. Another fourteen of Ford's vehicles ranked in the top three of the listings, making it the automaker with the most awards on the coveted list.
But since there鈥檚 no snow and it鈥檚 nearly 70 degrees, I鈥檒l take a ragtop instead. The Mazda Miata will do nicely. I love this car鈥攊t looks great, it鈥檚 fun to drive, and it will let in all that warm December air until Mother Nature wakes up and freezes us all to death. That鈥檒l probably be next week. Just enough time to get in a few good drives before our demise. The Jeep Renegade Trailhawk is practical, lovable, and an absolute breeze to drive鈥n-road and off. There鈥檚 a lot to love about Jeep鈥檚 newest off-roader, and if you find yourself with a car-sized space to fill under the Christmas tree this year, you鈥檇 do quite well to fill it with a Renegade Trailhawk. Fast, beautiful, and expensive as heck. The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe with all-wheel-drive is my ultimate dream car this Christmas. It鈥檚 got a big V8 and 500 horsepower, not to mention the added all-wheel-drive that just sticks like glue. As long as American automakers are building supercars, the world is a better place. 400K), but it came completely out of the blue, and surprised pretty much everyone. At the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, it completely upstaged the Acura NSX that we had been hearing about for years. A production model is not yet ready and it will be a while before we get any seat time in one, but we are already smitten with this supercar. The GT pushes the boundaries of automotive styling and uses forward-looking technologies like a twin-turbo V6 rather than a brutish V8. The new GT is going to be the stuff of posters and computer wallpapers for years to come.
You also will need to trim the fender bolt bracket where it angles down on the inside of the bulkhead (the third bolt hole is deleted to clear the pedal box). A three-inch grinding wheel did the job quick. Here's the bracket removed. Into the trash bin it goes. After filing sharp edges of the new cut, spraying a coat of cold galvanizing primer and a couple topcoats of Marine Blue, the pedal box assemblies were mounted up to the bulkhead. You can see how the master cylinder is level and the masters have independent fluid reservoirs. The old system relied on a single steel can reservoir that is prone to vibration, leaks, and peeling paint that will promote rust in the footwells. But note also that you will now need to cut an access panel in the top surface of your fender to check and fill your clutch master cylinder fluid reservoir.
