2019 Land Rover Defender [India]
The 2020 Land Rover Defender has landed in India, a spy shot posted by Team-BHP forum member DeClutch 4X4 has revealed. The prototype is in the hands of Tata Consultancy Services, which means that it's here just for component testing. The Land Rover Defender is expected to retain its bare-basic, old-school characteristics post the long overdue full model change. Along with the clearly evident boxy body, it should have a high-set bonnet, squarish windows, plain door design, straight shoulder line and roofline, more pronounced wheel arches, leading to a tough yet utilitarian design. While there will be hints of the previous generation model, the design will be drastically different and way more contemporary, according to Land Rover's Design Director Gerry McGovern. Like the Jeep Wrangler, it should come in 2-door SWB and 4-door LWB versions, and the family may include even a pickup truck at a later stage. On the inside, expect the new Defender to feature a large infotainment screen, a fully digital instrument cluster and a chunky multifunction steering wheel along with a host of comfort and convenience features offered in other modern-day Land Rovers. Reports say that it shares the D7u platform with the Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover. In terms of engine expectations, the new Defender should run on a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel units as well as a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol unit featuring 48-volt mild-hybrid technology - all from the Ingenium family. The design and development of the all-new Defender have been done at JLR's Gaydon base in the UK.

In an effort to create space for the expansion of its Jaguar Land Rover Classic division, JLR is selling its reserve fleet of cars and amongst them are 140 children's pedal cars from its range of vintage toys. This is by no means the extent of the firm鈥檚 pedal car collection as the marque is only selling models that don鈥檛 feature JLR branding. Of the 140 vehicles that will all be auctioned without reserve at Bicester Heritage on 21 March, there are representatives from almost every decade of the past 130 years of motoring. Standout cars include a miniature Batmobile, pre-war styled racers and a BMW Z4. Also included in the range is a selection of vintage biplanes (models of course) and a pedal car designed to look like a steam train. What鈥檚 more, these are not the kinds of toys you can simply pick up from your local Argos. Many of the vehicles shown come with features you would only expect on full size cars, such as steel bodies, brakes, opening bonnets and boots, fully functioning steering, headlights, adjustable pedals and even leather seats. In some cases, the only thing to split these miniature hommages from the real thing is the lack of an engine. Which car did you yearn to have a miniature version of when you were a kid?
Re-tuning the engine means that the power level will remain the same (122 horsepower), but with a lower power peak speed to provide better performance when towing and better acceleration. Torque output will rise from 221 lb-ft to 265 lb-ft due to the fitting of a variable-geometry turbocharger. This also helps produce a much wider spread of torque than the Td5, from 1500 rpm to 2000 rpm. The engine will be mated to a new 6-speed gearbox. 1st gear is lower than the previous gearbox for better low-speed control, whilst the higher 6th gear is intended to reduce noise and fuel consumption at high speeds. A new transfer box will also be fitted, but using the same ratios as before. The other major changes will be to the interior. Other interior changes are to the seating layout. Upcoming legislation from the European Union will outlaw the inward-facing seats used in the rear of previous Land Rover Station Wagons.
