This requires extensive knowledge of the car line and model under study. Here at Robison Service we produce a written inspection report backed up with photos, and I would expect the same in any intensive inspection. But keep in mind that time is money - a really thorough inspection backed up with a well-documented report may cost you 6-8 hours of labor. Checking everything I list above is not a quick casual thing. That said, you don't always need that extensive a check. In some cases you may be well enough served by paying for 1-2 hours of the inspectors time and a verbal report. I encourage is to have the seller present when the car is inspected, and I recommend you ask the inspector to present his findings to the seller. Land Rover lineup. But the British marque has now announced a series of minor upgrades - previewed by the spy shots we brought you in July - that seek to keep the LR4 at the top of its game. The updates consists primarily of a subtle facelift and some new tech. Up front you'll find a new grille, bumper, headlights and daytime running lights. There are also new wheel designs available, of course, but the badging updates - including "Discovery" lettering replacing the "Land Rover" on the nose - won't be making the transatlantic voyage since the model goes by an alphanumeric designation here. Land Rover has also integrated some of the electronics developed for the new Range Rovers, including the depth sounder and various traffic monitoring systems. There's also a new Meridian audio system available, and Land Rover has integrated its stop/start system and eight-speed automatic transmission across the range. Details have only been announced at this point for the UK market, where the revised model will begin delivery in November, but expect the changes to hit US showrooms shortly thereafter. In the meantime we'll anticipate scoping out the changes at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
An 8-way power driver's seat, heated leather upholstery, a moonroof and a navigation system are optional. The Terrain's second-row seat adjusts fore and aft. There's a plastic floor panel behind the seat that can be folded down to create a gap-free cargo floor. With the second row down, maximum cargo volume totals 63.9 cubic feet. Both the 4-cylinder and the V-6 employ direct-injection technology. The four-cylinder displaces 2.4 liters and makes 182 horsepower; the V-6 displaces 3.0 liters and makes 264 hp. An "Eco" mode, activated by a dashboard button, alters drivetrain calibrations in the 4-cylinder to maximize fuel efficiency. GM says Eco mode helps the Terrain achieve its highway mileage figures. When properly equipped, maximum towing capacity with the four-cylinder is 1,500 pounds. With the V-6, it rises to 3,500 pounds. Six airbags, including side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags for both rows, are standard.
