Everything You Need To Know About The 2019 Land Rover Models

The Land Rover Discovery might not be the most practical, fuel-efficient, or even the most comfortable on-road driver in its class, but its unparalleled off-road capabilities, hallmark Land Rover refinement, and high-tech cabin more than make up for it. Unlike the smaller Discovery Sport, the longer and larger Discovery will remain unchanged for MY 2020. It will get a special Discovery Anniversary Edition to commemorate the nameplate鈥檚 30 years of production. Sadly, this 400-unit limited run model will be sold exclusively at home in the U.K. The U.S. market Discovery is expected to receive a few insignificant updates which is a general Land Rover鈥檚 modus operandi for models in early life cycles. Every single Land Rover Discovery comes with a powerful V6 engine under its hood, but there鈥檚 still a choice between gasoline and diesel options. The former is a 3.0L supercharged V6 with 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, while the latter is a 3.0L turbo-diesel V6 delivering 254 ponies and 443 lb-ft of torque. Both powertrains are tied to the ZF 8-speed automatic which does its job splendidly.

All-electric cars on the MLA platform will reportedly have a 90.2 kWh battery with a 292-mile (470 km) range 鈥?that range would best the I-Pace. It鈥檚 also worth noting that Jaguar Land Rover announced its EV development partnership with BMW on the same day as its Investor Day presentation. There are some contradictions here and some murky timelines to sort through, but it appears an electric Jaguar XJ is still expected prior to an all-electric Range Rover. While a previous report seemed to indicate the ICE XJ would be out completely, that may no longer be the case 鈥?we could be seeing both an electric and ICE model. As for the electric Range Rover, the timeline still seems a bit speculative at this point, with 2021 appearing to be the absolute earliest possibility. While the Jaguar Land Rover鈥檚 new MLA platform allows for all-electric models, it鈥檚 unclear just how much of the carmaker鈥檚 future lineup will go in that direction, as hybrids are still clearly a big part of JLR鈥檚 plans. The 3.0T models come with the gasoline V6 engine (with extra output for the 3.0T S line Prestige), while the TDI models get the diesel V6. The TDI Premium gets the same standard equipment, with the addition of 19-inch wheels. The TDI Prestige goes without the sporty exterior flourishes (they're optional), but is otherwise similarly equipped. Some of the standard features on the upper trim levels are available on the lower trims as options. The Offroad Style Plus package (Premium Plus only) includes different 20-inch wheels, front and rear skid plates, rugged-looking fender flares and bumpers and "black optic" exterior trim. The Sport Style Plus package (Prestige only) is similar to the Offroad Style Plus package, but substitutes 21-inch wheels and different fender flares and bumpers. Additional options for Prestige models include an adaptive air suspension, adaptive cruise control, a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround-sound audio system and a Luxury package (synthetic suede headliner and extended leather trim).

Govati says other abandoned projects include a gravity water project that has remained a pipedream even after the commencement of ground work. Unfortunately, Govati鈥檚 subjects are not the only ones affected as Inkosi Kanduku can testify of having his fair share of white elephants. 鈥淔or example, we have the case of Futsa Community Day Secondary School. Construction of a school block, courtesy of the European Union, started and completed in 2009 but, up to now, nobody knows when the school will open its doors to our children because there is no tangible progress. In fact, some people are using the school block as a hall,鈥?Kanduku says. Fortunately for Mwanza residents, Dan Church Aid, with support from Tilitonse Fund, has come to their rescue, thanks to the 鈥楥ollaborative Action in Strengthening Local Governance Project鈥?being implemented by the Association of Progressive Women (APW). Concerned with increased cases of abandoned projects, APW invited community members to consultative forums and mobilisation meetings in a quest to shape community perspectives and understanding around key development issues between the month of February and March this year.
