Weirdly, the knobs in the cabin have a real sense of solidity and quality to them, while the buttons - particularly those below the infotainment screen - feel comparatively cheap, both in terms of appearance and in action. The cabin is quite well laid out overall, with everything in easy reach. The steering wheel is finished in high-quality leather, and like the Evoque and fullsize model, it wears a "Range Rover" badge in the center. I wouldn't have minded a slightly smaller-diameter wheel, however, as it would have lent a bit of credence to the Sport's mission as a more driver-focused offering. Being a Range Rover, the Sport offers up quite a high seating position, which is a great aid to visibility all around. Those seats, meanwhile, are heated, cooled and offer 14-way adjustability, while being extremely supportive in nearly any situation. Ingress and egress are hampered only by the vehicle's high ride height, a factor that can be mitigated by lowering the air suspension.
The brake and accelerator pedals are perfectly situated for blipping the gas as you downshift -- a racing technique used to blend engine speeds and one of those esoteric techniques that鈥檚 both pleasing and rare to get right. I do it correctly almost every shift in this car. There are a few things I鈥檇 change. Mostly, I wish the R8 had a 鈥渕ean鈥?button you could engage, which would open up the engine and allow it to get really throaty and wild, more like the Lamborghini Gallardo from which it is derived. Even when you鈥檙e really gunning it, the V-10 is too polite by half. Fine around town, but out here I want to hear myself. The footwell is also cramped, with the left-side dead pedal pushed too far forward, so my left leg cramps. I wish the seats had slightly better lumbar support, too. In the shadows of the mountains it鈥檚 much colder, in the 50s, but it鈥檚 below freezing back home so no worries.
Land Rover offers the Range Rover Sport in six trims: SE, HSE, HST, HSE Dynamic, Autobiography Dynamic, and SVR. 115,795 for the SVR. There are six different engines available. The base motor is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder, called P360 by Land Rover, that's available and SE and HSE. A 3.0-liter tubodiesel is available on those same two trims, the plug-in hybrid setup with a 2.0-liter engine is available on HSE and Autobiography Dynamic models, while the P400 3.0-liter six-cylinder comes exclusively with the HST. HSE Dynamic and Autobiography Dynamic trims can be had with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8, while an uprated V8 is only available in the flagship SVR. All models use an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Range Rover Sport can tow up to 7,716 pounds, but this drops to 6,613 pounds with the SVR V8 or to 5,511 pounds with the plug-in hybrid setup. 2,040. This means the HST, SVR, and plug-in hybrid models are only available with a five-passenger capacity. Cargo capacity checks in at 27.5 cubic feet behind the second row, or 59.5 cubic feet with it folded flat. These figures drop to 24.8 and 56.8 cubic feet, respectively, on plug-in hybrid models.
The Mazda R360 was a 4-seat, 2-door coupe, powered by a rear mounted air-cooled 356 cc V-twin engine. This engine was mated to either a 4-speed manual transmission or a 2-speed automatic transmission. That engine was capable of producing a maximum power output of up to 16 horsepower and 16 lb.-ft. Aside from producing vehicles, Mazda's operation also involved the development of the Wankel rotary engine. The company's focus on developing this engine was basically triggered by Mazda's desire to use this technology as a means of differentiating itself from other Japanese car manufacturers. Mazda's efforts and resources used in developing the rotary engine eventually gained positive results. The company started selling the newly-developed engine in 1962. Five years later, Mazda released the limited edition Cosmo Sport. This 1967 sport was powered by Mazda's rotary engine. This type of engine was also used in the current RX-8 engine. These events titled Mazda as the sole car manufacturer engaged in the production of the Wankel engines.
