"Living With Larry" My Land Rover Discovery 1 300TDI And Overland Travel
Before my trip to Morocco I wanted to ensure that I had a spare battery charged and ready to go just in case I had issues with my main battery. However, when I was looking at the off the shelf systems available they came in at about 拢84 ish for a system without long HD cables or about 拢70 for one without a display. I also came across some system which looked thrown together for about 拢55. So, I thought it would be a good idea to do one myself. So with the total of 拢23 (not including the spare battery, or cabling which you will need) I started fitting the components to my Land Rover. I do have a fair collection of tools and things like shrink tubing, cable soldering iron etc so I did not include these in the costs. Firstly the positioning where the second battery will go is actually quite easy on a Discovery 1. There is already a space for a second battery in the engine bay in front of the air box.

Additional controls are mounted on the rear door panels for various passenger comfort features. Speaking of comfort, the Range Rover comes decked out in full leather upholstery, with 16-way electronically-adjustable front seats as standard. Extra outlay will net you optional 20-way adjustable front seats covered in Oxford Leather, plus extending leg cushions, adjustable bolsters, and a cooling and massage function in the mid-trims. Step up to the higher trims and you鈥檒l get 24-way adjustable seats with Semi-Aniline Leather, plus climate controls and an optional Hot Stone massage function. Rounding our the luxury stuff is 6-mm thick glass for an extra quiet cabin, plus heated armrests front and back and three-zone ambient lighting. In addition to the power recline function, the rear seats will also electrically fold flat for expanded cargo room, a feature that鈥檚 controllable via the front infotainment screen if desired. A split tailgate helps here as well, as does the 60/40 split for the rear bench. Finally, the vehicle height can be lowered by 50 mm (2 inches) for easier loading/unloading and passenger enter/exit.
SEAT is showcasing safety technology that could be rolled out across the wider Volkswagen Group with a new concept called Leon Cristobal, which has made its debut at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona. The Spanish manufacturer鈥檚 creation takes an existing Leon hatchback and introduces almost 20 new features designed to help reduce the number of road accidents. Significantly, many of the systems involved are based on software, not hardware, potentially making them suitable for fast-tracking through to market. SEAT鈥檚 engineers were inspired by EU data which suggests that 30 percent of road accidents involve excess speed, 36 percent involve distraction (such as using a mobile phone) and 25 percent can be attributed to alcohol or drug use. To counter these causes, the Leon Cristobal won鈥檛 start unless all occupants have fastened their seatbelts and the driver has taken a breathalyser test (an eye monitoring sensor prevents them from switching seats with a sober occupant). As Stefan Illijevic, the Cristobal project leader, told Auto Express, 鈥淭his is not an autonomous car and deactivation is not an option, because of the scenarios it could present the occupants with.
