2019 Land Rover Defender Specs Compared To Jeep Wrangler
Comparing two-door and four-door models, both types of Wrangler are a bit shorter, narrower and lower than the comparable Defenders on the outside. Despite that, the Wrangler does have more head- and legroom for the front passengers, and more rear headroom than the Defender. The Defender has an edge when it comes to front shoulder room and rear legroom. The Defender 110 has an extra bonus in the availability of a third row of seats, something not available on the Wrangler Unlimited. When it comes to cargo space, the Wrangler has the absolute maximum amount of space available. And when comparing the two-door models, the Wrangler has more space behind the rear seats. But with the four-door models, the Defender 110 has more cargo space behind the second row, something that's possible by having enough room to cram in a third row if desired. The Defender is also the clear choice if you want to tow, as it has a maximum tow rating of 8,200 pounds for both the 90 and 110 versions. The four-door Wrangler Rubicon is only rated up to 3,500 pounds, and the two-door model isn't rated at all. If you want a Wrangler to tow things, you're better off with the Gladiator pickup truck, which can tow up to 7,650 pounds. The Jeep Wrangler is, unsurprisingly, the more affordable choice. 33,000 for a base Wrangler Unlimited Sport. 50,925 for the 110. Pricing hasn't been announced for the 90, which will be available later in 2020, along with pricing.
That way, when you鈥檙e offroad, you can see what your wheels are about to drive into. In addition, and standard on all models with six seats is ClearSight Rear View. This can transform the rear-view mirror into a digital screen, showing you a projection of what a rear-facing camera is filming. Alongside having 170 individual options for you to pick from, the Land Rover Defender gets four Accessory Packs: Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban. The Explorer Pack is designed for off-road sturdiness. It gives the Defender a raised air intake, a roof rack, mud flaps, wheel arch protection and a spare wheel cover. The big selling point of the Adventure Pack is its Portable Rinse System, with a 6.5-litre water supply. Basically, this means your car has a shower in it, ideal for washing your dog. The pack also has mud flaps, a scuff plate and a spare wheel cover. The Country Pack is a compromise between the Explorer and Adventure bundles. You get the Portable Rinse System, as well as wheel arch protection, mud flaps and a scuff plate. The Urban Pack is meant to let your Defender stand out in the city, giving it a lot of styling details that highlight its offroad-readiness. These include bright metal pedals, a scuff plate and larger 22-inch wheels. For your new Defender, you can buy something called an Activity Key. This, basically, is a wristwatch that is both water- and shock-proof It鈥檚 able to remotely lock, unlock and even start your car. Another snazzy extra you can specify is a remote-control winch. With this, your Defender can pull up to 4,500kg with 40 metres of rope. You can even operate it from up to 45 metres away from the car.
There is no ladder- frame or dedicated chassis, unlike the current Jeep Wrangler, and no rigid axle for better wheel articulation. The company, however, says the aluminum monocoque is several times stiffer than that of the outgoing Defender - by far the stiffest it has produced. To make it suitable for off-road use, it now gets permanent four-wheel drive, a choice of independent air or coil-spring suspension, a low- range transmission, locking central differential and active rear locking differential. There are also three levels of throttle and gearbox sensitivity aimed at boosting driver control. Other tech to aid off-roading include Land Rover鈥檚 Clear Sight Ground View, which displays the area under the bonnet and ahead of the front wheels on a central touchscreen. Loaded with charm, the new Defender will be unique - comfortable and luxurious on the one hand, and extremely hardy and capable off road too. With price expected to be Rs 55-60 lakh, it isn鈥檛 cheap, but then there isn鈥檛 anything quite like it either.
