2019 Land Rover LR2 & Freelander Snowy & Icy Off-Road First Drive Review

2019 Land Rover LR2 & Freelander Snowy & Icy Off-Road First Drive Review

The newly revised 2013 Land Rover LR2 ( or you could call it a Freelander ) is ready to take on the road and everything beyond. At least that鈥檚 what Land Rover tried to demonstrate when they let us loose with the newly revises 2013 Land Rover LR2. The redone entry level crossover features a new 240 HP 4-cylinder turbo charged engine, new headlights, new interior that鈥檚 very similar to the bigger brother LR4. In this exclusive TFLcar first drive Off-road review we put the LR2 through a snowy Canadian winter to see just how well it handles the mud, ice and of course snow of Great White North. Editor鈥檚 note: Contrary to speculation, there is more to the 2013 Land Rover LR2 than being an overdressed Ford Escape. The underpinnings are off road capable, beyond an average crossover, and the 2013 Land Rover LR2鈥檚 interior refinement is reported to be outstanding. There is no reason why the 2013 Land Rover LR2 can鈥檛 compete with the likes of the Audi Q4 and BMW W3. There are several components that are, indeed, shared with Ford. The same can be said for the award winning Range Rover Evoque. Both vehicles are loaded with Ford mechanical tidbits, electronics and running gear. Does that make the 2013 Land Rover LR2 a bad vehicle? Hell no. We all know how crappy British components used to be and the performance coming from those aforementioned Ford components is top notch.

Gadgets are a great deal of fun to add to your Land Rover off-roader even so they can grow to be stifling and pricey if you rush into it without putting some serious time into working out what suits you. You are free to own a super multi-purpose road vehicle from another dealer but there is an underlying belief that you will not be completely satisfied with the 4x4 offered and will therefore need to buy a few 4x4 gadgets. However, there are plenty of opportunities to peruse SUV applications. So let's go through some of the major options and practicalities to consider when selecting your preference. Devote plenty of time wisely to planning and researching. There are numerous SUV applications readily available but many would not be ideally suited for your off-road vehicle. This can be especially important when it comes to weight loads and the pulling power of your 4x4; as if you do not follow the guidelines then you can damage your suspension or engine.

Mopane trees are not only eaten by elephants, but by an entire spectrum of creatures. Hard-nosed hornbills nest in the cavities of the Mopane鈥檚 durable, termite resistant trunks. Various creatures even smaller, are specialists when it comes to the Mopane. There鈥檚 the honey making mopane bee for example, Plebina denoita, and the sweet, waxy sap-sucker Arytaina mopani. These transform from succulent worms into leaf-hoppers. Mopane worms, a delicacy of the locals, are the caterpillar of the emperor moth, but many other species of moth and butterfly nourish themselves on this remarkable tree. We drive further through the reserve; the abundance of wildlife is enthralling but not unusual. Although we鈥檇 booked ourselves into Camp 6 at Kwai Gate which is in front and overlooking a clearing where the animals congregate, when we arrive we find other people there. We decide to set ourselves up at Camp 4 instead. All the sites are relatively close to one another, set around newly built modern ablution facilities. Towards sunset we watch impala and a small herd of buffalo congregating in the clearing in front of us. In the background we are aware of new arrivals, coming in apparently from Savuti.
