Land Rover: Tata Says Foster鈥檚 Exit Has No Impact On JLR鈥檚 Revival
The Indian auto giant Tata Motors has said that the exit of its Group CEO and Managing Director Carl-Peter Forster, will not impact the turnaround of its British subsidiariy Jaguar & Land Rover. The statement added that crediting the former executive completely for turning around the British marquee would be wrong. The statement further added that while Forster had joined the Tata Motors in February 2010, the turnaround in JLR took place about 24 months back. It is to be mentioned here that Tata Motors had acquired Jaguar & Land Rover in December 2008 from US auto giant Ford Motors, at a time when these were loss making firms. The sales of both of the firms started recovering soon after they entered into Tata鈥檚 regime. In the first four months of this financial year, the sales of Jaguar Land Rover stood at 81,209 units, accounting for a surge of 6 percent over the units sold same period last fiscal. While the sales of jaguar Cars fell 26 per cent at 15,715 units, the sales of Land Rover surged 18 percent at 65,494 units.
The lineup of the 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class has received a new optional diesel engine. The GL-Class is an elongated version of the M-Class premium SUVs. The GL-Class seats seven occupants in luxurious comfort, as does the Land Rover Range Rover and offers excellent safety standards across the board. There are three trims available: the GL320 BlueTec with a 3.0L 210hp V6 turbodiesel. The 4.7L 335hpV8 GL450 and the GL550 that features a 5.5L 382hp V8. All feature an AWD 7-speed automatic transmission to complete their drivetrains. The GL-Class vehicles from Mercedes-Benz for 2009 have a maximum towing capacity of 7500 pounds and offer you more than an adequate amount of cargo space. There are loads of available and standard safety features including ABS braking, electronic traction and stability control, side airbags for the second row of seating, a 3rd row of seating that is foldable by powered controls and more. On the side of luxury, you will enjoy genuine wood trim, heated front seats, all leather upholstery and a high-tech navigational system. There's also a rear backing camera and a DVD entertainment system available.
There鈥檚 also a locking center differential and an 鈥淎ctive Rear and Locking Differential,鈥?which I assume is an automatic locking diff. The geometry figures are phenomenal thanks to short overhangs, air suspension and big 32-inch tires wrapped around 18 to 22-inch wheels. These are all great figures. Whether they鈥檙e enough to make this a true off-road brute is something I鈥檒l try to tackle in a later article. Land Rover will offer four 鈥渁ccessory packs鈥?for the Defender called Adventure, Explorer, Country and Urban. The Adventure pack gets a 鈥淧ortable Rinse System,鈥?which includes a pressurized water tank, trunk-mounted air compressor, and a gear-carrier on the side (shown in the image at the top of this article). On top of that, the pack adds mud flaps, a spare tire cover, and a scuff plate up front. Plus, there鈥檚 a seat backpack, which is just a backpack that straps into the center seatbelt in the rear to double as an armrest. The Explorer pack also gets the side-mounted gear carrier, a spare tire cover, and mud flaps, but adds a roof rack, a raised air intake, and chunky fender flares. The Country Pack gets the Portable Rinse System, mud flaps, a scuff plates for the top of the rear bumper, and big fender flares. The 鈥淯rban Pack鈥?gets the rear scuff plate, a spare tire cover, and an 鈥渦ndershield up front,鈥?plus some shiny pedals for the interior. Considering its aluminum unibody, the Defender 90 with the 3.0-liter inline-six is surprisingly heavy, weighing in at 4,830 pounds (the mild-hybrid system is likely a significant contributor).

After reading the many complaints about service I think I will keep it or drive out to Frisco or Grapevine to deal for new RR. Maybe I need to change mind on brand of luxury (dependable) vehicles?
