NACA And NASA, Part II
During the critical landing, the only message from Houston was "30 seconds", meaning the amount of fuel left. When Armstrong had confirmed touch down, Houston expressed their worries during the manual landing as "You got a bunch of guys about to turn blue. We're breathing again". Although the official NASA flight plan called for a crew rest period before extra-vehicular activity, Armstrong requested that the EVA be moved to earlier in the evening, Houston time. Once Armstrong and Aldrin were ready to go outside, Eagle was depressurized, the hatch was opened and Armstrong made his way down the ladder first. At the bottom of the ladder, Armstrong said "I'm going to step off the LEM now" (referring to the Apollo Lunar Module). Armstrong had decided on this statement following a train of thought that he had had after launch and during the hours after landing. It has been long claimed that he accidentally dropped the "a", from his remark, rendering the phrase a contradiction (as man in such use is synonymous with mankind).
Though it doesn't offer the sporty, sensuous, coupe-like lines of the Range Rover Evoque, the 2013 Land Rover LR2 does offer much of the Evoque's compact crossover appeal, in what is ultimately a more useful package. Chief among the comprehensive updates for the 2013 model year is the replacement of the previous LR2's in-line six-cylinder engine with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder found in the Evoque. Rated at 240 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, it is actually more powerful that the six-cylinder it replaces. A six-speed automatic transmission handles gear changes, with CommandShift manual-shift mode and sport mode for more spirited or technical driving. Land Rover says the new turbocharged engine will be more fuel efficient than the previous model, but hasn't revealed how much of an improvement we can expect. Aiding efficiency are Land Rover's Intelligent Power System Management and Smart Regenerative Charging systems, which reduce engine load and thereby reduce fuel consumption.
Best Option for Repair Manual? Best Option for Repair Manual? I have a 2014 LR2 with the 4 cylinder turbo. I've noticed the repair manuals for this thing are hard to come by. Land Rover will only sell a monthly subscription and not even Hynes has a gas-engine repair manual. What are you guys using? I'm in the USA. Bummer nobody has anything about a good service manual! I am looking into both options. Both actually look legit. Will update once I decide what to do. Easy Manuals seems to have one. I imagine there are a lot of these service manual "resellers" that are slinging viruses instead of service manual PDFs. Easy Manuals seems to have one. Thank you Razor Gaze! Thats for the older model (i'm 2014), but I imagine most stuff is the same, aside from the engine.
The Rover only just fits in my shop with the plow on! The Land Rover starter has been giving trouble all winter, and I've been trouble-shooting it as we went along. She always did start hard when cold, and often needed a jump and even a block heater when the mercury was below zero. This year the old girl was starting just fine up through the fall, but when the temperatures dropped below 10 F, we began to have the same kind of trouble and then yet more trouble. Naturally, I suspected the starter. The battery was comparatively new, only three years old, while the starter was forty-five years old, and the engine was of course very tight after the otherwise very successful rebuild. But the new part was expensive so I waited. 300 for the replacement I needed. Unlike most other spares for the series Rover, starters are expensive.
