THE ULTIMATE CAR GUIDE

THE ULTIMATE CAR GUIDE

Myk Belmonte finds this SUV would surely fit the bill. Pickup truck derived mid-sized SUVs are in the rage in Asian markets (particularly in pickup truck crazy Thailand), and Ford was the first one to make a vehicle out of this idea. Based on the Ranger chassis (the Asian market Ranger to be exact), it resulted to a tough chassis, cheaper construction of assembly, sharing of parts (from mechanicals to interior bits), and the good one is - lower pricing. Ford started this craze with the Everest with other manufacturers following suit for developing markets. Examples are the Toyota Fortuner (based from the Hilux), Mitsubishi Montero Sport (derived from the Strada), and the Isuzu Alterra/MU-7 (conceived from the D-MAX). The Asian market witnessed the launch of the Everest in 2003 (Central America and Bahamas have this one) and the dream of owning an SUV at an attainable cost is now a reality for most. Pick-up underpinnings plus Mazda derived engines (WLT Diesel and G63 Gasoline) which results to the Everest.

Once the new car warranty expires the manufacturers unlimited obligation comes to an end. The certified program is often administered by a third party company who didn鈥檛 make the car and has strict limits on their responsibility for it. In most cases, there is no longer provision for paying to diagnose difficult problems. Indeed, many used car warranties - technically called service contracts because they are not actual manufacturer warranties - don鈥檛 pay for diagnosis at all. Those that do often pay a fraction of the real time taken. Yet customers don鈥檛 know the difference. They just expect their problems to be solved. But that can鈥檛 happen when no one is willing to spend money to find a problem. It鈥檚 not the dealer鈥檚 car - so he鈥檚 not writing a blank check if the trouble can鈥檛 be found in 15 minutes. The car鈥檚 owner thinks warranty covers everything and the dealer must be trying to cheat him if they ask for any money. The result - the dealer says 鈥渘o problem was found鈥?and boots the car out the door. One day, they figure, it will come back with a visible failure and they can fix it then.

Well I may or may not have said this before, but when you have an old Land Rover they become part of the family, this is the position we found ourselves in with Larry. However, like all family members they are not always well or doing what you want them to do. With Larry it was not the latter but the former. I would like to say at this point a Discovery 1 300TDI is no match for a 400 year old Oak tree. The Oak tree is OK and is still growing well. Now the one thing I will say is that we were all fine in the car and apart from my left leg shin which took a whack on the glove compartment, yes everyone was OK. The following day we got Larry towed back to my drive and we started to think what to do next. Rachel thought I should call the insurance company and get them to assess the damage and get it repaired.

If team members feel they cannot bring concerns to management because they won't be dealt with you will have morale issues. When a team member can't bring concerns to management they will discuss it among other members of the team. This creates a negative atmosphere and turnover. If you want to save yourself some time improve the communication. Often management is frustrated because they see their team as not listening or following direction. Team members appear as if they are not putting much effort into their job and they keep doing tasks incorrectly. Frustrated managers say "this group just doesn't listen or seem to care." Chances are there is a reason your team is not performing at a high level. Your team cannot work for you until you work for them. How do I work for them I thought they were supposed to work for me? As a manager you need to stress the importance of proper training. You need to build that solid foundation for new hires or they will never meet your expectations. As a leader it is your job to give them every chance to succeed.
