That'll come in handy if people are seated in the back or cargo is stacked to the ceiling and blocking your view out of the narrow hatch window. First Edition. Instead, the one model year trim gets the base, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with 246 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. That bolts to a nine-speed automatic transmission that, combined with all-wheel drive, returns EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. In terms of power, there's little to complain about. Turbo lag is non-existent, resulting in lively acceleration off the line, particularly with the Evoque in its Dynamic mode with peak torque at your service from just 1,300 rpm. The gearbox whips off rapid, well-timed shifts at speed, but can be jerky on initial launch from time to time. Dynamically, the Evoque is a competent handler, with adaptive dampers, responsive and weighty steering and strong brakes.
The Aston Martin Rapide, Bentley Mulsanne, Ferrari FF, Land Rover Range Rover, and Roll-Royce Phantom are an incredibly diverse quintet, with priorities ranging from ultimate performance to overt opulence. However, one thing these high-end luxury vehicles all have in common is that they can accommodate four passengers. A relatively affordable attempt at creating the best of all worlds. Visually, the new Range Rover is an evolution rather than a revolution, although it does have more bling than its charmingly stiff, upright, and royal predecessor. The only debatable detail is the trademark gills that have been moved from the front fenders -- where they made some sense -- to the doors, where they don't. The tailgate is again split horizontally, and both parts are power operated. The lower one is now less deep, so a person no longer needs a telescoping torso to reach into the cavernous luggage bay. When you opt for the Autobiography trim level and the Executive Class package fitted to our test car, you get two bucket seats that can, with the push of a button, trade rear-seat recline for cargo space.

Its placement, however, means more storage down between the front seats. The infotainment screen looks unlike anything we鈥檝e seen in other Land Rovers, as well. I鈥檓 curious, though, how easy it鈥檚 going to be for the drive to use with that chunky shifter in the way. This 2020 Land Rover Defender test model also sports a unique steering wheel. It鈥檚 still as luxurious as you鈥檇 expect from a modern Land Rover, but it also has a more utilitarian look to it, which is fitting with the Defender鈥檚 reputation. In fact, that鈥檚 the theme of the interior design as a whole. Despite the digital dash and modern infotainment system, everything looks chunky and rugged. Even the key fob, which you can see in the bottom center of the picture above, is big and blocky. When we were alerted to the 2020 Land Rover Defender testing in Moab, we also saw the car鈥檚 independent suspension. These shots show that the car will be available with air suspension as well, but you can opt for traditional coil springs instead. Even with independent rear suspension, most of the lower-hanging components look like they鈥檙e out of the way. We鈥檙e curious just how much ground clearance this new Defender has. And, of course, we鈥檇 love to find out how the new suspension setup in the 2020 Land Rover Defender copes off road.
