The same year, Maurice Wilks introduced the first Land Rover Prototype, which was later nicknamed 鈥楥enter Steer鈥?and finally, in 1948, the first Land Rover Car was launched. It was a simple and inventive working vehicle that combined utilitarian simplicity with rugged, dependable quality. Within a year of its launch, the Land Rover achieves instant success and by the end of the 40s, the Rover Company expands its export to nearly 70 countries. By 1950, the Rover Company had upgraded Land Rover鈥檚 dynamic four-wheel system and changes were made to the overall vehicle design. Most of the vehicles featured larger and powerful headlamps and the hard top is fitted. A year later, the engine is upgraded from a 1.6-liter unit to a 2.0-liter unit. By 1955, a new power unit was introduced for Land Rover vehicles. In 1956, the company decided to increase the wheelbase for more space, and the Land Rover got even bigger and better than before.

Richard Coleby rolled his Polaris out of the event mid-way through the day after setting some quick times. Martin Gould, whose Buxton 4x4 Rivet was not ready in time, broke a shaft on his Polaris. Cooke鈥檚 hopes of challenging for the win on day two were dashed when he was forced to stop his car on the third run. With a good lead Birchall backed off slightly but in doing so he broke a propshaft on the penultimate run. The shaft was replaced and Birchall completed the final run of the event to win by over three minutes from Duckworth. 鈥淚鈥檓 very happy with the result,鈥?said Birchall. 鈥淚t was a fantastic course and the very changeable weather made it extremely challenging. In third place was Colin Gould on his first event in his Clio V8. Gould commented 鈥淚鈥檓 extremely pleased with third, I鈥檓 still learning the car and we鈥檒l get quicker - the car has the pace, the driver needs to improve a bit! Mark Jacques鈥?Chevy-powered Lofthouse Freelander was fourth with Andy Powell, who had a new engine in his Simmbugghini, was fifth despite suffering brake problems on day one.

Land Rover鈥檚 Range Rover SUVs, for decades the image of inefficiency and excess, are being transformed into some of the cleanest vehicles on the road. Land Rover is starting with the Range Rover Sport which for the 2019 model year will offer a plug-in hybrid option: the P400e. The powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 and an electric motor which deliver a combined 398 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque. The electric motor is integrated with an 8-speed automatic transmission which is then connected to the Range Rover Sport鈥檚 standard 4-wheel-drive system. The addition of an electric motor also required a unique calibration for Land Rover鈥檚 Terrain Response 2 off-road driving modes selector. The new calibration distributes torque from the electric motor, which has no creep speed and maximum torque from zero rpm, to all four wheels. This gives greater control during low-speed off-road maneuvers, Land Rover says. Land Rover quotes a 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds and top speed of 137 mph, which isn鈥檛 bad for a vehicle of this size and scope.

While few buyers will ever drive their Land Rover over anything more challenging than a cottage road, the reality is that every Land Rover is incredibly capable and this display gives riders a taste of what these trucks can do. From there, we make our way to a short autocross course where guests can put a new Jaguar F-Pace through its paces themselves, proving that a vehicle can offer both utility AND performance! The highlight for most comes in the form of a true thrill ride in a thundering Jaguar F-Type SVR, piloted by one of a team of legit racing drivers headed up by Canadian racing legend Robin Buck. For those who have never experienced a world class sports car at full chat, this ride is mind blowing! Veteran Canadian racer Robin Buck was on hand giving thrill rides in the audacious F-Type. The absolute easiest way to sell a great product is to allow the potential consumer to truly experience that product doing what it does. When the product is great, it will literally sell itself. Jaguar is on a roll in recent years, since being bought by Indian company Tata, which has injected the capital needed to develop products which are truly great. This new push to bring the experience to the people so to speak might be just what the company needs to take on the larger players in the sports luxury niche. The cars really do sell themselves! From Toronto, The Art of Performance Tour heads west for dates in Edmonton and Vancouver. Click here to learn more.
