What Should I Do If My Car Is Affected?

What Should I Do If My Car Is Affected?

NEARLY TWO million cars on UK roads with recall notices over a potentially lethal airbag defect still haven鈥檛 been fixed, according to new data. Why has an airbag recall notice been issued? The recall is in response to the discovery of an issue involving airbags supplied by the major parts manufacturer Takata. According to notices that have been issued by some car makers, the explosive charge in the device that inflates the airbag is at risk of degrading over time, and potentially causing it to fail when the airbag is deployed. In the very worst case scenarios, the device may could rupture and result in the metal fragments being propelled into the cabin at high speed, potentially causing serious harm to the driver or passengers. At the time of writing, no cases of Takata airbag failures have been reported in the UK. It鈥檚 suggested this is due to contributing factors for the fault including prolonged and repeat exposure to high temperatures and humidity levels. How many cars are affected?

It produced 62 bhp (46 kW). 2,625 cc Petrol, inlet-over-exhaust: Borrowed from the Rover saloon range, in response to demands from mid-Sixties Land Rover users for more power and torque. 2,286 cc petrol/diesel, overhead-valve type 11J: five-bearing crank: In 1980, Land Rover finally did something about the crank failures which had plagued its four-cylinder engines for 22 years. These engines lasted beyond the end of Series III production and into the first couple of years of the new Ninety and One Ten ranges. 2,495 cc petrol, overhead valve: The final development of Land Rover's ohv petrol 'four', with hardened valve seats which allow running on unleaded (or LPG). 2,495 cc diesel, overhead valve, type 12J: Land Rover reworked the old 'two and a quarter' diesel for the Eighties. The injection pump was driven off a toothed belt at the front of the engine (together with the camshaft), a change compared with the older diesels. The Freelander was available with various Rover K-series engines. Integrated Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) technology, dubbed e-terrain technology, will allow the vehicle to move off without starting the engine as well as supplying extra power over tough terrain. Land Rover鈥檚 Diesel ERAD Hybrid was developed as part of a multi-million-pound project supported by the UK Government鈥檚 Energy Saving Trust, under the low carbon research and development programme. ERAD programme is one of a broad range of sustainability-focused engineering programmes that Land Rover is pursuing, brought together by the company under the collective name "e TERRAIN Technologies". Land Rover has presented in the 2008 London Motor Show its new ERAD diesel-electric hybrid in a pair of Freelander 2 (LR2) prototypes. The new hybrid system is being designed as a scalable and modular system that could be applied across a variety of Land Rover models and powertrains. Land Rover unveiled the LRX hybrid concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, for it to be going into production. An ERAD will enable the car to run on electric power at speeds below 20 mph (32 km/h).

Myk Belmonte has a recently discontinued model dished for you. The Japanese has a love affair with minivans and people carriers, since they have a number of them in their line-up. Ranging from the very small to the barangay hauling, the Japanese has one that suits your needs and most importantly, budget. April 2002 saw the release of the Nissan Serena in the Philippines, which indirectly replaced the Nissan Vanette (definitely a far cry) in the line-up. This vehicle was updated in late 2007 with a new engine and other cosmetic and interior changes. Second hand prices of Nissan Serenas can cost one between P240,000-P350,000, definitely not too bad a deal if you desire something comfortable. Do not mistake this PHDM model (we get Taiwan's) to other Serenas from Japan since they are converted and can be a potential money pit. Before driving one home, have the alternator and automatic transmission checked if you are buying an early model. Going for the updated model (which is rare to find) would necessitate the hunt for a November 2010 or later unit to get the remaining chunk of the warranty.

The 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0-litre petrol and 2.0-litre turbodiesel engines were carried over from the previous Avensis, and the 2.4-litre four-cylinder from the Camry was also added to the range. This was the first Avensis to be exported to Japan. Due to the Camry Wagon ending production, the Avensis Wagon is exported to New Zealand, in both 1.8 and 2.0-litre forms. In Britain, there were no 1.6 versions available. In the 2004 European Car of the Year contest, the Avensis was just edged out by the top three, Fiat Panda (Winner), Mazda3 (2nd Place) and the Volkswagen Golf (3rd Place). However it won the 2004 Semperit Irish Car of the Year. Following the withdrawal of the Toyota Camry in 2004 (2005 in Switzerland), the Avensis became the largest Toyota saloon sold in Europe. Trim levels in the UK are the T2, T3-S, T3-X, T4, T Spirit, T180 and the TR.

Car production in the UK was solid considering most of the cars made there go to Europe. That region is in poor shape so any growth is positive. The chart below shows rank, brand, whether they went up or down in ranking, numbers made, difference from 2011 and finally percentage up or down. Summary: 2013 up again, but not by as much. Nissan: Another stellar year for the plant at Sunderland. It is now at capacity so 2013 should be similar. Land Rover: A 28% increase is robust to say the least. Now that an extra shift is running at Halewood and the all new Range Rover is on stream, we can expect a good increase for 2013. This is a brand on the move. MINI: They managed to squeeze out 8% more cars than 2011, but the plant at Oxford is also at full stretch so any growth for 2013 would be minimal.
