The Terrain Response system is one feature that makes Land Rovers so adept at off-roading. In the LR2 SUV for 2015, the system tailors the suspension and powertrain settings to one of four driver-selectable choices: grass, gravel, snow/mud/ruts and normal. Great road trips demand great music, so Land Rover obliges by providing the LR2 with an 825-watt, 17-speaker Meridian surround-sound system. It will blow your ears off. Although the 2015 LR2 looks rugged and tough on the outside, inside the story is much different. The dash design is elegant and less cluttered than previous versions, and the materials are mostly in line with the class, with a few cheap-looking plastics here and there. The LR2鈥檚 touch screen is designed to provide a more user-friendly experience, including improved scrolling and a QWERTY keyboard. On a more pragmatic front, the Land Rover LR2 can carry up to 59 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seats folded, which is on par with or better than other vehicles in the category. If you鈥檙e not one for new-fangled design, the 2015 Land Rover LR2 SUV should prove quite appealing.





The Defender is very much an anachronism in today's vehicle marketplace. It is still largely hand assembled, and unlike most modern cars and trucks, all the major body panels and sub-assemblies simply bolt together. A Defender can literally be broken down to its chassis with simple hand tools 鈥?there is no unibody structure. This is actually an advantage when used extensive for off road travel 鈥?unibody vehicles can weaken over time, but there are no such stress points on a Defender. Both enthusiasts and commercial users appreciate the bolt-together construction of the vehicle, for it not only means that modifications and accessories are easy to fit, but dented or damaged panels can easily be replaced with replacements. It also means that the bodywork of the vehicle gives absolutely no structural strength (it can be completely removed, leaving just the chassis and bulkhead/firewall if needed). This has its advantages in that modifications, damage or corrosion in the bodywork cannot compromise the vehicle's strength, but also means that the upper bodywork offers little or no protection in the event of the vehicle rolling over.

After splitting from British Leyland, Jaguar became independent again in the 1980s, before being purchased by Ford in 1989. Land Rover, meanwhile, was bought by BMW in 1994, which expanded the range further by introducing the Freelander. It then joined Jaguar under Ford in 2000, with the two companies becoming closely linked, sharing engineering knowledge and facilities. Sales and profits of the Jaguar Land Rover have risen year on year, but things took a turn for the worse in recent years. In January it announced it was to make 4,500 job cuts, mainly in the UK, following 1500 job losses last year. It blamed the job losses on a downturn in sales in China brought about by Brexit. The British car brands have proved popular with the rich and famous. Celebrity couple David Beckham and his wife Victoria, are huge fans of both Range Rover and Jaguar and have owned many of the vehicles. Victoria even contributed towards the design a special edition version of the Range Rover Evoque.
