Cars are usually not like a fine wine: They don't get better with age. Normally, if you plotted a car's year-to-year sales, you would see a downward trend as the excitement of its introduction wanes and newer competitors debut. Not so with the 2009 Mazda 3, a car that's bucked this trend and actually enjoyed greater sales as time has gone on. While it probably hasn't improved much since its introduction in 2004, the 3 hasn't needed to. Mazda's fine little compact is an example of a car done right. The 3 is akin to a successful indie movie: a good product that slowly gains attention thanks to positive word of mouth and Oscar buzz. In the Mazda's case, years of automotive awards, critical acclaim and positive ownership experiences finally generated the type of marketplace response the 3 has always deserved. This is one of the best cars in its class, and it's nice that people are finally taking notice. With available sedan and hatchback body styles, the Mazda 3 offers a nice practical variety for shoppers. The hatchback in particular should appeal to young families or college-aged folks in need of the occasional dorm moving van.
Kia Motors Corporation is one more South Korean most famous car maker along with Hyundai Motor and Daewoo Motor. Kia was formed in 1947 and produced steel tubing and bicycle parts. Later the company began to manufacture motorcycles, then trucks and in 1974 it set up car production. In the 1980s Kia鈥檚 Pride model was sold in the U.S. Ford Festiva name and the Kia Avella as the Ford Aspire. In the1990s Kia spur sales in the United States under its own brand. A subsidiary of Hyundai, Kia is still popular amongst Americans as in 2014 580,234 cars were sold in the U.S. Jeep is currently owned by FCA US LLC which is a division of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Its history of goes back to 1941. The first Willys MB Jeeps were the pioneers of sport utility vehicles. Initially only military vehicles were produced for the United States Army and Allies nevertheless throughout its history Jeep cars were manufactured for military and civil puproses and currently only off-road vehicles and SUVs are launched. In 2014 it was reported that 692,348 Jeeps were sold in the U.S. The Dodge Division of Chrysler Corporation, or simply Dodge, was founded in 1900 and supplied Detroit automakers with spares and assemblies. The company set up automobile manufacturing in 1915. In 1928 Dodge was sold to Chrysler. After the oil crysis in 1973 the company switched from producing trucks and full-size vehicles to fuel efficient mid-size automobiles. In 2014 Dodge was in top ten American best selling cars with the market share of 3.5%. All in all 574,155 Dodge cars were sold in the U.S. Tokyo-based Fuji Heavy Industries was formed in 1953 after the merge of four Japanese companies. The firstling was produced in 1954 and got the name the Subaru 1500. Since then the car makers launched various models, which enjoyed popularity in different countries. In 2014 Subaru sold 513,693 automobiles to the U.S.
In the BCC Trophy Phill Bayliss enjoyed a successful first event as he took the win in his Land Rover 90 ahead of the Tomcat 100 of Ben Clay. Steve Anning was third. 2014/15 Freelander Challenge champion Ian Linford had suspected head gasket problems on the recce lap so decided not to start. Brian Chase was leading the Freelanders after day one but electrical problems dropped him to third behind Graham White and Pat Masters. Chris Bird led the Clubman category after day one and he was setting times which would鈥檝e seen him leading the event overall. He didn鈥檛 contest the second day so it was Toby Jefferson who was the first Clubman home. In second was Phil Ibbotson who was using his Metro 6R4 for the first time since 2013. Jonny Koonja was third, driving on his first event for around ten years after spending recent years in the navigator鈥檚 seat.
I don鈥檛 like them at all, although they do attract my gaze. My G turned out to be a revelation performance-wise and they are my first love! Next was a Discovery. Nothing. Not one ounce of Thing. But something unusual has happened. Now with the passing of Discovery-2 (even less Thing than Disco-1鈥檚, if possible) and Discovery-3/4, old Disco-1鈥檚, especially those taken from the scrap heap and given a new lease with some big wheels, glow with Thing. I think they are great, and I can鈥檛 think of a better, cheaper way to have endless fun off-road. My first Land Cruiser: Nudda. Nothing. Zitch. No trace of Thing anywhere to be found. This was a 79-series pick-up that I converted to a double-cab; and still, with all that work, I could not squeeze a drop of Thing out of it, no matter how hard I tried. And it wasn鈥檛 a great performer, so there was nothing between us.
Optional equipment can be added to give it a more rugged appearance, however, including wheel arch protectors, a roof rack, roof ladder and cargo carriers that mount over the rear side windows and function like motorcycle saddlebags. A pressurized water tank for rinsing off dirty gear and air compressor are also included with some trim packages. The U.S. market Defenders will be offered initially with the choice between a 296 hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a mild hybrid 395 hp 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder with electric motor assist. Fuel economy figures have not been determined, but all 110s will be able to tow up to 8,201 pounds or carry a payload of 1,984 pounds. The Defender鈥檚 all-wheel-drive system comes with a two-speed locking center differential while off-road-focused models add a rear axle lock. An optional air suspension system can increase the Defender鈥檚 ground clearance from 8.6 inches to 11.5 inches and give it the ability to wade through water up to 35.4 inches deep. Land Rover says the Defender is also capable of climbing, descending and traversing 45-degree grades. The Defender gets a digital instrument cluster and single central display with the automaker鈥檚 latest infotainment system, which can display a virtual view from under the vehicle and water depth information provided by ultrasonic sensors. A video-equipped rearview mirror provides a feed directly from the tailgate that bypasses the heads of passengers and gear. The cabin is trimmed in upscale materials like leather strips on the dashboard and wood rails flanking the center console, but also has body-colored inserts on the door panels for a utilitarian touch.
