No Word On The Tibetans
Lone Pine played host to some location shooting for the new Iron Man movie. I actually recognize one of the shots. If you've ever been to the Alabama Hills west of Lone Pine, then you too will recognize this shot. Spring time is a favorite for filming around Lone Pine because of the clear skies, nice weather, and snow covered sierra peaks. This past April and May saw commercial filming for BMW, Land Rover, Nissan Xterra, Lancia (and Italian car), and a Samsung credit card (for the South Korean market). The BMW commercial was set in Tibet and the film crew brought their own yak for filming along with Tibetans from the Los Angeles area. The yak was boarded at the rodeo grounds. No word on the Tibetans. The Land Rover commercial was shot in about 10 different places around town. That crew brought in their own saguaro cactus made of plastic. One of the scenes involved shooting on Whitney Portal Road on the weekend, which the USFS doesn't allow due to recreational visitors and the understandable traffic control problems. They ended up shooting that scene on a Friday.
While the car is very much customizable through JLR鈥檚 SVO program, the only thing you get from the get-go is the Black Pack that adds black finishes to trim items. Another thing you don鈥檛 see from the outside is the run-flat tires that can keep you going for an additional 30 miles (if you don鈥檛 exceed 50 mph) once the tire is pierced. You get all the amenities that you expect from a Range Rover like the latest Touch Pro Duo infotainment system with two 10-inch touch screens. You also get more headroom than inside a normal Range Rover. 479,386 in today鈥檚 money. 177,500. Expect the Sentinel to retain this sky-high price tag but, in the end, your safety is priceless, right? Granted, for the same kind of money you can just buy a 2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast and live with the hope that you can outrun any threat you may encounter.
Under the hood, it should have the same supercharged, 5.0-liter V-8 as the Velar SVR, but the output may vary. What will set the two apart? For starters, the Jaguar design might be more appealing to those looking for a less casual SUV. Find out more aobut the Jaguar F-Pace SVR here. Until BMW creates an M version of the X3 or Mercedes-Benz comes up with a regular variant of the AMG GLC63 S Coupe, the Porsche Macan Turbo is pretty much the only option available. The most powerful iteration of the small crossover, the Macan Turbo gets its juice from a beefed-up, twin-turbo, 3.6-liter V-6 rated at 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. That might not sound like a lot compared to almost 550 horses, but when equipped with the Performance Package, the Macan Turbo comes with 434 horsepower and 443 pound-feet on tap. It鈥檚 far from impressive, but Porsche excellent dynamics make up for the lack of oomph.
As usual, my real world mix of highway and city driving averaged out to a more realistic rating, in this case, 14.6L/100km (comb). The turbo four-banger, related to Ford? EcoBoost engine, pulls admirably across a broad power band with satisfactory response. That get-up-and-go is translated through an Aisin AWF21 six-speed automatic transmission with a sport mode and CommandShift system for manual gear selection. An intelligent full-time all-wheel drive system normally puts power to the road via the front wheels for best fuel economy but the front-rear torque split can adapt continuously to suit changing conditions. Regardless of trim level choice, the LR2 makes the most of compact cabin dimensions with adequate room for five, along with comfortable upright seating. The seating position is high - Land Rover refers to it as a Command Driving Position - good for maneuvering through either traffic or trails. The second row Stadium Seating sits even higher.
However as with most things online there are things to be aware of. Its always highly advised to see the vehicle in real time. No amount of pictures or videos can make up for checking the vehicle over in person. Can an image show you that clunky gearbox, oil leaking underneath or horribly sounding engine that's about to give up? What is the sellers feedback like? Have they sold many other Land Rovers through eBay? Dig deep into the feedback system and look closely at comments, especially negative ones. While millions of pounds of transactions take place on the internet each day, its always best to get contact details and speak to the seller one to one. Have a long chat with them and ask as many questions as you can think of. If the sale is genuine the seller will happily answer any questions you may have. A lot of Land Rover owners are enthusiasts and many will give you long spiel of history about the vehicle. Use your head here, if the vehicle sounds too good to be true it usually is.
