Shortlist And Countdown To July 3
With judges looking for style, quality and high-end technology, FCA鈥檚 first SUV could be set to topple the favourites. Large premium SUVs have been becoming ever more opulent lately - the recently revealed 拢230,000 Rolls-Royce Cullinan being a case in point. The cars on our list more than justify their places thanks to exceptional performance across a range of areas, particularly interior quality. Even though the popularity of MPVs seems to be coming under threat from the growth of SUVs, the models on offer are great options for families. Last year鈥檚 winner, the Citroen C4 Picasso, is once again in the mix but under the new name C4 SpaceTourer. Will have enough to fend off the Mercedes V-Class, the SUV-inspired Renault Grand Scenic and the rest? Despite a regular dearth of sunshine, roadsters remain popular in the UK. The spread of contenders is huge, with the recently revealed BMW i8 Roadster going up against the brilliant McLaren 570S and last year鈥檚 winner - the Mazda MX-5 RF.

We felt great pride in a job well done, and handed the vehicle back to its owner. Unfortunately, this particular Sport did not stay fixed. 鈥淢y car was in the passing lane, doing 70, when it lost all power and the check engine light came on. I coasted to a stop, shut it off, and started it again, and it was normal. That鈥檚 happened every time I drive to New Haven, and I鈥檓 getting scared to take my truck on the highway. Did the car have an aversion to New Haven? I鈥檝e seen such things before. 鈥淏ring it in,鈥?I said, and we鈥檒l see what the codes tell us. A check revealed a P2601 code, which points to a failure of the pump that moves water through the supercharger when you get on the throttle. His seemed to be failing. Situation: The customer may complain of reduced power and or a misfire at high engine loads and road speeds, with the possibility of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) P0096 and/or P2601 stored.
Land Rover promises luxurious treatment and off-road capability, and the 2020 Discovery Sport brings these qualities to the masses. Every Discovery Sport is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes between 246 and 286 horsepower depending on the model. However, the more powerful engine utilizes a 48-volt hybrid system that aims to improve fuel economy and aid acceleration. Of course, standard all-wheel drive helps the Sport conquer bumpy terrain and all of the seasons鈥攁long with a host of optional trail-rated equipment. The Disco Sport can even wade into as much as 23.6 inches of water (for those who dare) and tow up to 4409 pounds. While we haven't driven the updated-for-'20 model, Land Rover says its structure is more rigid than before. It also receives optional 21-inch wheels for the first time, but we expect these oversized rollers to reduce the ride quality. With a dashboard design that mimics flashier and pricier Land Rovers, the Discovery Sport maintains the brand's upscale image. The cabin now offers sustainable materials and even more folding-seat configurations for better versatility than before. The lineup also has standard infotainment features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE mobile hotspot. The available technology grows from there, with everything from advanced camera systems to contemporary driver and safety assists. The latter includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and more.
However, the car will offer a couple of wheelbases to choose from and it will come with a completely different running gear. It seems that a fully independent suspension will be used but instead of an air-ride system, the Defender will use regular shocks and springs. These will give it enough ride height while not making it unnecessarily complicated to run. The car鈥檚 release date is still unknown but its product manager did say the car will be released before 2020. Its price is likely going to be well over that of its predecessor. 50,000 which would make it one of the most expensive off-road oriented vehicles on the market. Why the price increase? Even though it might seem strange, this is actually a great move from JLR. At this price point, the 2020 Land Rover Defender would be able to offer plenty of features and great materials while competing with the Mercedes G Class at a much lower price point.
