Legislation from the European Union outlaws the inward-facing seats used in the rear of previous Land Rover Station Wagons. The 2007 Defender replaced the 4 inward-facing seats with two forward-facing seats. This makes the Defender 90 Station Wagon a four seater vehicle (reduced from six or seven), and the Defender 110 Station Wagon a seven seater (reduced from nine). Whilst this is a big reduction in capacity, it brings the Defender in line with its competitors which have generally used this layout for many years. The only external changes were detail changes. The bonnet was reshaped with a bulge to allow the new engine to fit in the engine bay whilst meeting pedestrian safety rules. The new dashboard and ventilation system necessitated the removal of the distinctive air vent flaps underneath the windscreen which had been a feature of all previous Land Rover utility models. Whilst the flaps have been deleted, the bulkhead pressing remains the same, so the outlines of where the flaps would be are still present. Now, more than ever, there is a strong division in sales pitch between the Station Wagon versions and the commercially-intended Pick-Ups and Van-bodied versions.

One thing about the Intek, its really small and could be fitted in a discreet place in your car. I also bought a gutter mount and 5/8th antenna. Now, the only thing I will say is don't get a gutter mount for a Discovery 1 is they don't work. If you try to fit it, the aerial will be at 30 degrees to the gutter and will poke out sideways from your Landy, this is not good. So after a quick trip to Maplin I bought a large magnetic mount antenna base for 拢15. I had also ordered a SWR meter, so all the CB kit was about 拢100, I could have spent 拢60 but I wanted a European CB, so ner. Now some technical stuff about SWR, ground planes and where to mount your aerial. Mounting a CB radio to talk to someone about a mile away when off road is not really an issue, you can plonk it pretty much anywhere you like on your car. If you put the aerial at the front or back you will amplify the signal opposite to the aerial mount, making it directional.

NASA鈥檚 Mars 2020 rover is roving toward completion. In the time-lapse video above, you can see the rover being attended to by engineers from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), dressed in white 鈥渂unny suits鈥?to prevent dust or other contaminants from entering the rover鈥檚 delicate machinery. The rover is winched up and carefully moved from its high bay in the Spacecraft Simulator Building into the testing chamber on ropes suspended from the ceiling. Then it is lowered down to the floor again, ready for testing. That might sound simple, but moving around the rover is a major challenge that requires tremendous planning and care. 鈥淲henever you move the rover, it is a big deal,鈥?Mars 2020 engineer Chris Chatellier of JPL said in a statement. 鈥淭here is a technician on every corner, and other engineers and safety inspectors are monitoring and assisting every step of the way. The test chamber is a large vacuum chamber that can re-create aspects of the Martian environment, including the low atmospheric pressure and low temperature. Once the rover had been through its chamber testing, it was taken back into the Spacecraft Assembly Facility to prepare for the next round of tests, the radio-emissions tests. The craft which will carry the rover to its destination already underwent vacuum testing earlier this year.

Will the resulting Elantra Touring be a hit here, or has Hyundai finally foul tipped a ball? One thing the Elantra Touring has over its four-door namesake is style. The two vehicles share no body panels and one wouldn't guess the Touring model is actually an Elantra based on the four-door's styling. The Touring is actually shorter than the sedan (176.2 inches vs. Combined with a roof that terminates into a steeply sloping hatch, the extra space between the axles makes the Touring look longer and larger. The Touring's sheet metal is also more attractive thanks to a strong character line running the car's length with a concave sweep up to the windows. This line emanates up front behind the large headlights (dig the blue angel eyes on the projector lamps) and combines with some pinched metal running up to the A-pillar to create distinct front fenders and a raised hood. The thin grille sports a chromed corporate 'H' with pride and small chrome eyebrow accents set off the fog-lights in each corner of the front fascia.
