Land Rover Planning Discovery Concept For New York
Land Rover offers a tease of the Discovery Concept. While the Range Rover may be its halo car, no model is more emblematic of Land Rover tradition than the classic Discovery - sold in the U.S. And the British maker is getting ready to present what has dubbed the 鈥淣ew Age of Discovery Concept鈥?at the New York Auto Show a couple weeks from now - a preliminary teaser image shown here. 鈥淒iscovery has been pivotal in helping to build the foundations of the Land Rover brand,鈥?notes design chief Gerry McGovern. 鈥淚t is admired all over the world and loved by its strong customer base,鈥?added McGovern, who also serve as Chief Creative Officer. Just how much will change with the new 鈥淒isco,鈥?as it鈥檚 widely known, remains to be seen but it is expected to see some softening of its traditionally boxy shape, at least if an accompanying video is any indication. The Discovery will be the bigger of the two and will feature three-row seating for seven, including a middle row that can slide and fold. The teaser image, above, suggests a much more modern interior design with the addition of more technology than any Discovery before - including a larger LCD display at the top of the center stack. No surprise, of course, in an era when infotainment technology is the key selling point for many buyers. The unveiling of the Discovery Concept coincides with the 25th anniversary of that Land Rover nameplate - but the debut of the production model will mark a new marketing strategy for the now Indian-owned maker. Going forward, look for Land Rover products to fall into three distinct pillars. The next Discovery is expected to anchor the 鈥渓eisure鈥?group, while the Defender will serve as the heart of the 鈥渄ual purpose鈥?group.
For the 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser there is just one engine, a 5.7-liter V8 that generates 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. Toyota pairs the engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel-drive system that has both high- and low-range gearing. What sets the Land Cruiser apart is Toyota's Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS). The KDSS, which is included in the standard equipment package, improves both off- and on-road performance by automatically loosening and stiffening the front and rear antiroll bars as it reacts to the terrain. The EPA rates fuel mileage at 13 mpg city, 18 mpg highway, and 15 mpg combined. The 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser is an amazing vehicle, but all of that luxury and performance comes at a premium. 66,000, and there's not a whole lot of wiggle room here. For the customer who wants both maximum luxury and maximum off-road capability, the 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser is the perfect vehicle. If one favors one aspect, then they can achieve similar performance or quality at a lesser price. Consumers interested in the Land Cruiser should also test-drive and consider the Cadillac Escalade and the Mercedes Benz GL. Other comparables include the Land Rover Ranger Rover and the Lexus LX.
An interesting and more recent option is Active Cruise Control - this maintains a set distance from the car in front, braking and accelerating to a pre-defined speed limit as the car ahead changes speed. Technically, there have been a few issues. These included front anti-roll bar niggles that required suspension bush replacement. Inevitably, there were also issues with the electronics and ECUs. Most Range Rover Sports will never have been taken off-road, but it's still worth looking for the ones that have. The only way to do this, and check for the resultant sump and suspension damage, is to put them in the air. This is where a dealer inspection becomes vital. If you are considering buying a modified Range Rover car then you must ensure that it has been fully checked to ensure that it has correctly sized rims and tyres. Always ask if the original equipment wheels and tyres are available too. I have seen a number of wrong fitments which have been dangerously fouling suspension and brake components. Also poorly fitting body kits devalue the car. There are a number of outfits offering tuned and customized versions of the Range Rover. I do not propose to go into details here other than to say that special attention should be paid in a pre-purchase inspection to ensure that the safety and integrity of the vehicle is not compromised. Where possible always ask for the factory wheels and equipment in case a return to standard is required. Any modifications beyond simple cosmetics will potential invalidate the manufacturers warranty too.
You may not think about it, but you use your Land Rover door handles more often than most of the other moving parts on your vehicle. Your Land Rover door handles must operate without a hitch each time you enter or exit your vehicle. The average driver doesn't even think about Land Rover door handles until one of them breaks. Of course, at that point your Land Rover door handles have gone from a minor part to a major nuisance. Depending on your vehicle's make and model, you may have a different number of Land Rover door handles. There are two Land Rover door handles for each door: an interior and an exterior. You may also have exterior and/or interior Land Rover door handles on the hatchback or tailgate of your truck or SUV. No matter where they are located, though, a faulty Land Rover door handle represents a big headache for you. For example, if your interior driver's side Land Rover door handle isn't working, you probably have to roll down your window to open the door from the outside every time you exit your vehicle. A broken exterior Land Rover door handle means crawling across the passenger seat to open the door before you drive. Your cargo-carrying capacity is impaired when your rear Land Rover door handle isn't working. If you can't open the rear door, you have to load your vehicle over your truck bed or through the side doors. If you have been holding off on replacing your faulty Land Rover door handles, browse our extensive and easy-to-search online catalogue and select the door handles that fit your vehicle's make and model. Your new Land Rover door handles will be shipped right to your door, so you can restore the utility of your vehicle doors fast.
