The Td5 engine is often mistakenly attributed to BMW but the engine was derived from the Rover L-series passenger car engine and developed by Land Rover. The 3,948 cc V8 petrol version from the Disco 1 was replaced with the Range Rover P38 Thor 4.0-litre Rover-derived V8. There was no actual increase in capacity over the previous 3.9-litre engine. Although the basic design of the engine was similar it was actually quite different internally. It used a different crankshaft, had larger bearing journals with cross bolted caps and different con rods and pistons. The blocks were machined differently to accept extra sensors for the Gems and Bosch (thor) injection system and to allow the extra stroke of the 4.6 crankshaft. For the 2003 and 2004 model year Discovery II they changed to the 4.6-litre V8 (though the 4.0 continued as the only V8 option offered in the UK). ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement, an electronically controlled hydraulic anti-roll bar system) was fitted to some versions, which reduced cornering roll. Self-levelling air springs were fitted to some models and European type-approval for seven-seat vehicles was only given for air-sprung cars.
The two multi-purpose buttons still take a few hours to get used to because their task changes depending on the feature selection you've navigated to. But I still like the design and how they work. If only the automaker could reduce the latency of the system. It still feels sluggish compared to offerings from other premium brands. Fortunately, it supports Android Auto and CarPlay which while they are in the use, the latency seemed to decrease. The rest of the interior is comfortable, with all the Range Rover amenities I've come to expect. Leather seats are available, along with more eco-friendly options for outdoorsy folks who want their cars to be animal-free. At six-foot-three I had plenty of headroom in the front and back seats and as long as another tall human didn't have the seat all the way back, the rear seats are fine for people with long legs. When you do transport your friends (either tall or short), you still have enough room for all their stuff. With the rear seats up the back has 21.5 cubic feet of cargo space. Enough for camping, glamping (at Coachella of course) and runs to the mall. The latest Evoque takes all the great parts of the old version and makes it better with a slicker design and upgraded tech. Sadly some of it will never be used to its fullest potential (like the rest of the SUV), but it's good to know it's there if you ever need it. On occasion, Engadget will accept travel and lodging from auto manufacturers to test drive vehicles not yet available for review from a local fleet. We do this to make sure our readers have the latest information about new vehicles. This is standard practice in the automotive journalism world. This in no way colors our editorial coverage of the vehicle or of the automaker themselves.

BMW claims the X7 is a 鈥榩aragon of quality鈥? delivering outstanding luxury and a full complement of advanced equipment features. As such, every version gets LED headlights, air suspension and a 12.3-inch digital display. Its sheer size means even the entry car gets 21-inch wheels, while the standard-fit three-part glass roof floods the cabin with natural light. Quality is first rate, with every surface covered in leather, metal or soft-touch plastic. There鈥檚 a typically Germanic feel to the cabin - up front, especially - where it appears more clinically engineered than a Range Rover, and more logically designed, too. The infotainment system is easy to use, and it鈥檚 complemented by a row of shortcut buttons that allows the driver or passenger to quickly switch radio stations or instantly input a pre-set sat-nav destination. Like on the current 5 Series, the gesture control system feels like little more than a gimmick, however.
