Jaguar isn't ready to strip off much camouflage from the outside of these upcoming SUVs. They both feature boxy, chiselled proportions that offer a modernised take on the long-lived original. The photos underneath the Defenders reveal something new about them. The 110 uses an air suspension at the rear axle, and the bags are visible in these pictures. The front end isn't visible here, but we'd expect it to use the same setup. The Defender 90 uses a simpler setup with coil springs at the rear axle and likely at the front, too. At this point, it's not clear whether the air suspension would be an option on both models and this test prototype simple doesn't have the system. These SUVs have fabric panels for concealing the dashboard out of the way, and the surroundings look fairly high tech in there. There's a digital dashboard, and the steering wheel features capacitive controls. A wide infotainment display sits next to the wheel. Below the screen, the joystick-shaped gearshift is on the left, and physical HVAC controls are on the right. The new Defender will debut in September and will likely have a public display at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Models at launch will reportedly get a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. Hybrid and diesel versions should come later. Sales will start in Europe and Australia in early 2020, and the Defender will make it to America later that year.





It doesn鈥檛 have the Auto HDR smarts of other expensive phones, the separate HDR mode is overbearing and shooting performance is quite poor. There鈥檚 significant shutter lag, shooting HDR images is far too slow, and the phone has a habit of actually not capturing some images when you shoot a number in quick succession. While you can get take reasonable day-lit shots with a little patience, the Explore鈥檚 low-light image quality is fairly poor. Pictures look soft. The app is simplistic, too. Panorama is the only extra mode, although dig into settings and you can record RAW images rather than JPEGs, letting you coax the most from this under-optimised camera. Selfies are soft and milky-looking, too. If you want to take memory-sculpting photos of a mountain ascent, bring a proper camera. There are a few other little issues, too. The Land Rover Explore鈥檚 Bluetooth is unreliable, causing an unusual amount of interference with wireless headphones, for the first few minutes at least. A lot of work has gone into making the phone rugged and wilderness-ready, but other core elements aren鈥檛 as polished as those of other phones. It鈥檚 no beauty next to ordinary models, but by losing the rubber nobbly parts some have, it seems less like it belongs on a construction site. Sensible software extras and the included Adventure Pack make the Explore great for outdoors adventuring. However, battery life without it is comparable with that of a much smaller phone, and the camera is not as smart, or as good, as most phones above the 拢300 mark. This narrows the Explore鈥檚 appeal a little, but that appeal is still real for the right crowd.
