Land Rover has given its sporting SUV a makeover, with the 2020 Discovery Sport promising more tech, a more cosseting cabin, and even a more frugal drivetrain. Offered for the 2020 model year for the first time with a hybrid system, the new Discovery Sport borrows the tech from the 2020 Evoque. Specifically, it鈥檚 a 286 horsepower mild-hybrid, with a 48V system. The cabin still gets three rows of seats, but there are new storage locations and an upgraded range of materials. Most interesting is a leather alternative, that uses recycled polyester microfiber. Second row seats fold 40/20/40, and can slide back and forth. As you鈥檇 expect, the off-road credentials haven鈥檛 been diluted, and there鈥檚 Land Rover鈥檚 second-generation Active Driveline system, Terrain Response 2, and up to 4,409 pounds of towing capacity. R-Dynamic and Black Exterior Pack options will be available, while the 10-inch Touch Pro infotainment system is standard.

The Land Rovers will most likely be made at the firm鈥檚 new plant in Slovakia, which will also start building the Discovery later this year. The JLR plants in the UK are close to full capacity and the company will want to keep production in Europe, given that this is where most of its baby SUVs would be sold. Slovakia has significantly lower labour rates than the UK, helping to keep costs down. Having smaller, lighter and more efficient cars in the model range will also contribute to a significant reduction in Land Rover鈥檚 overall fleet CO2 emissions, something that is fundamental to meet strict future environmental targets. The company will need to address demand for electrified powertrains in smaller model segments by the time the baby Land Rovers reach the market. However, the D8 architecture cannot easily accommodate electrified powertrains, so the D10 platform will need to be re-engineered to achieve this, adding unwanted costs.

Good marketing is one of the most important parts of running a business, especially when you're doing international business. The marketing scheme that a company chooses when they expand to another country is important because it has to appeal to that population and with what they can relate to. In the case of Ford, he used the Mercury brand to appeal to the Canadian populations because of the reputation it already had in Canada. The Ford F series trucks were marketed as Mercury M series trucks in Canada from 1948 to 1968. A good example of this in modern times is Acura in the U.S. Pickup trucks were made for the hardworking person who needed a vehicle to work just as hard as they do. Many major brands have a line of trucks, and over time, brands that didn't have trucks made them. Many times, when a person or family finds a make or model of truck that they like, they tend to stay loyal to that vehicle for many years.
