During that time, refinements to the SUV鈥檚 4脳4 system made it an even more capable off-roader. Over the next two decades the Rover Company continued to roll out updated Series II and III editions. In 1970, Land Rover introduced Range Rover, a series of top-of-the-line models that are treated as a sub-brand to this day. Those new, high-end models maintained the ruggedness of Land Rover, but added such refinements as leather and wood trim. It wasn鈥檛 until 1987 that Land Rover established a beachhead in the U.S., selling its first Range Rover model. That vehicle, initially powered by a 3.5-liter V8 engine, was the lone model until 1993 when the Land Rover Defender 110 followed. The Defender was a continuation of a line of vehicles based on the original Series I model. That first Defender was replaced by the Defender 90 then canceled after three years due to U.S. In 1995 the Discovery line was introduced, with the Discovery II following soon thereafter. Early in the new century, the smallest and least costly Land Rover made its debut. The Freelander, also known as the LR2, rolled out and has since been joined by the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Today鈥檚 Land Rover line is composed of LR2, LR4 and Discovery Sport models. The Range Rover line includes the Evoque, Sport and the classic full-size Range Rover.
I've had my fully loaded LR2 for about a month now. I have very few complaints. I'm about at a 1000 miles with the gas mileage inching up everyday. The ride is outstanding, the seats are comfortable and the road view is second to none. The sound system (upgraded) is as good as I've had on any vehicle. Also, I agree with some of the other comments regarding the great lighting at night with the technology group upgrade. The ride is suficiently tight and I think it rides as well as the X5 and noticeably better than the X3. My main complaint is the bluetooth technology. What were they thinking here? I can't find a Treo, Blackberry, Q, or any PDA with any carrier that I can use with this system. It boggles the mind. My son's simple Motorolla phone was found by the LR2 instantly. What was Land Rover thinking when it put together this system? 40,000 use blackberries, Treos, etc. I'm told by Land Rover to be patient. Other phones will be added. All comments on here regarding the bluetooth connectivity issues are welcome. The only other issue (I'm not sure it's an issue yet) is the AC. On recent 72 degree days, I have had to drill the temp on Auto down to 64 to 66 to get the cabin cooled. Today, I had to take it off auto and turn the fan up for awhile. Once the cabin cooled after 5 min or so, I was able to return to auto and the system worked fine. Anyone else see this issue? I'm not sure what's going to happen when it really gets hot next month. Overall, however, I am very pleased so far. Land Rover, please resolve the Bluetooth isses quickly!
For 2020, Land Rover introduces a few updates for the Discovery, the company鈥檚 midsize SUV. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and blind-spot monitoring now come standard and a new Landmark Edition debuts. In the Land Rover lineup, the Discovery is positioned as a rugged off-roader, and it looks the part with a tall roof, generous greenhouse, and extra body protection. The Discovery鈥檚 interior is open and airy thanks to big windows and a dual-pane glass roof. Cargo volume measures 38.8 cubic feet with the second row deployed and 83.7 cubic feet with the second-row seats folded. Two engines are available. The supercharged 3.0-liter V6 burns gasoline and makes 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 burns diesel and produces 254 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Maximum towing capacity is 8,201 pounds with the supercharged V6. Both engines connect to an 8-speed automatic transmission and permanent 4-wheel drive (4WD) with a locking center differential.
With lots of cubbyholes, comfortable, supportive seats and a clear dash, the interior is an appealing place. You can buy a nearly new Ford Edge for between 拢21,499 and 拢32,990 on our sister site BuyaCar. A service is required every two years or 18,000 miles, with prices depending on who maintains your Edge. A minor check costs 拢155-拢272 according to the dealer鈥檚 location, while a major service ranges from 拢211-拢299. The 2.0 TDCi engine features a cambelt, which should be replaced every 10 years or 125,000 miles (the work costs around 拢450). Few of these cars have covered more than 20,000 miles, however, and the oldest examples have yet to celebrate their third birthday. Fresh brake fluid is needed every two years, while an air-con service every two years costs 拢60-拢90. The Ford Edge has been recalled just once so far, with the campaign being started in June 2016. It affected cars fitted with adaptive LED headlights, which could switch off because of a problem with their controlling software. Edges built up to February 2016 were potentially affected, but the fix was straightforward: the car鈥檚 ECU was updated with some fresh software. Drivers are keen on the value that the Edge offers, plus the driving experience, spacious cabin, comfort levels and reliability, with seemingly no downsides reported.
