Who Owns Jaguar And Land Rover?
Ford's interest in luxury cars had everything to do with profits: Generally speaking, luxury vehicles have higher profit margins than mass-market models. Nothing illustrates this more clearly than the recent experience of the Volkswagen Group. VW's Audi and Porsche brands generated just 16% of the group's total sales in 2014 -- but they brought in 62% of its operating profits. Ford has long been reliant on profits from North America, and especially reliant on profits from pickups and SUVs sold in the United States. The idea behind PAG was to create another significant source of profits in order to reduce Ford's reliance on the U.S. But it never quite panned out, and then-new CEO Alan Mulally dismantled PAG as part of his plan to turn Ford around. Ford never managed to turn a profit with Jaguar or Land Rover, but Tata has managed to turn the two into a thriving business.
Novelis was also awarded the Best Private Company Award for its overarching work in sustainability and recycling. According to Adrian Tautscher, REALCAR Project Leader at JLR, 鈥淲orking with Novelis and other REALCAR project partners, we鈥檙e pushing the boundaries of current levels of recycled aluminum use in the automotive industry. The REALCAR project addresses the full range of questions involved in expanding recycled aluminum use, from the composition of alloys to where and how we will secure suppliers of scrap aluminum. Novelis鈥?sustainability goals are well aligned with those of JLR. The insights gained from the Novelis-JLR partnership can be scaled to other material value chains or other aluminum applications. In fact, we recently replicated the model in the U.S. Ford to supply the new lightweight, aluminum 2015 Ford F-150 truck. By requiring recycling criteria in customer contracts and recycling the same material we produce, Novelis is turning our customers into our suppliers, truly creating a circular business model and more sustainable business practices for us all.
So, why do I drive the Range Rover model that all other 4x4 drivers slate? Present a Range Rover Classic owner with a P38 and they will implode with mortification. Well, despite its well-documented flaws, the P38 is an amazing piece of kit that can still be had for little-to-no money at all. To start with, how many critics have actually owned or even driven one? Some will have to be sure. And they will be quite right to say they had a horrible time as custodian of Land Rover鈥檚 unruly 1990s stalwart. Way ahead of its time when first rolling out of Solihull鈥檚 factory gates, the P38鈥檚 electrical system was a brave leap forward, while the air suspension get-up remained a bold design carried forward from later versions of the Classic. Both require specialist knowledge and experience to diagnose issues when they occur. Air suspension needs more maintenance than simple springs, throwing a hissy fit at the most inappropriate of moments should you abuse it.
Note: I tried using pliers to loosen the hose clamps and just rotate their clocking angle on the hoses. That failed miserably. I checked the local stores for hose-clamp pliers, so I'd have a better grip on the clamps, but I couldn't find any. So I gave up on that idea. I decided to cut off a section of the vertical fin on the passenger side slider to clear the AC lines in that area. After a bit of trial and error, it was easy. I used my cordless circular saw with a blade made for cutting aluminum. I was surprised at how easy that blade cut the 0.25 inch thick aluminum slider. At first, I cut off only a section. Here's a photo of the fit check afterward. You can see that the hose clamps are clear now. However, the insulated line is in contact with the section I left at the end. So I cut off that last section too.
As with engines, going with the normally aspirated ones would save you more; supercharged models (available in both V8 gasoline and diesel) can put a drain to your wallet. Ian Callum is the guy who pushed Jaguar's design direction to the modern side, leaving behind the classic angles that is known for. More sharp lines from the front that reaches to the back which now appeals to young accomplished executives. Highlights include a chrome strip in the boot lid and the prominent Jaguar logo up front. Supercharged models gains an "S" badge to know the unit you are buying. It is an electronic affair inside the XF since the car makes life easier for you. Having a bunch of keys is a thing of the past, a push button to start the car is present. Located in the center console, pushing the button will have the air-con vents open by itself.
