Why Buy A Ford?
Competitors even opened the flood doors to extending credit, a practice Ford strongly resisted to but eventually relented. 鈥?In 1921, Ford exceeds the one million car production per year which was 10 more than what Chevrolet manufactured at the time. 8 million. The company had been founded by Abraham Lincoln admirer, Henry M. LeLand. 鈥?In 1927, the production of Model T cars stopped. 鈥?In 1925, the Ford Tri-Motor airplane is created for airline services. 鈥?In 1928, Ford Motor Company built the largest museum of American History - The Henry Ford. Among items of interest are the chair in which Abraham Lincoln sat in when he was assassinated and the Lincoln limousine John F. Kennedy rode in when he was assassinated. 鈥?By 1931, despite the Great Depression, it is clear that Ford and Chevy brands are the leading the car industry as they battle for auto sales.
Alan Mulally hands us a piece of paper with the points about leadership he wants to cover during our time together. The note is handwritten and, unusual for a CEO of a Fortune 10 company, he鈥檚 drawn a heart around the words Korn Ferry on the note. You don鈥檛 think of engineers as people who draw hearts on notes and memos, and there is nothing in his 12th-floor office at Ford鈥檚 sleek Dearborn headquarters that betrays sentimentality. Engineers are tough-minded analytical types who live their lives curled up on the left side of their brains. We, but not Mulally, sometimes forget that the tools of modern companies 鈥?computers, management systems, charts, tables, spreadsheets 鈥?don鈥檛 get things done; people do, which is why his people-person style works so well. Mulally, who at 68 is ginger-haired and brimming with as much energy as Saudi Arabia, Texas and North Dakota, managed the transformation by getting the best out of the people already working at Ford, not by letting them go. Even before Ford, Mulally鈥檚 platform was global, complex and massively capital-intensive.
In 1994, Land Rover Limited was acquired by BMW and production topped 100,000 units per annum. Three years later, the famous and still in production Freelander Series was announced. In 1998, the company celebrates its 50th anniversary and special limited editions of all four new model lines and series were released. In 2000, the company was sold to Ford Motors and a year later, production reached three million. Throughout the years, many of the Land Rover vehicles underwent significant changes and the company joined hands with Jaguar, forming Jaguar Land Rover. In 2008, Land Rover was sold to Indian Manufacturer, Tata Motors. Today, Land Rover Limited is currently under control of Tata Motors. As of 2012, the company signed an agreement with Ford Motor Company. 559 million assembly plant in British West Midlands. Since the military had surplus supplies of aircraft cockpit paint after the war, the earliest Land Rover vehicles were only available in various shades of light green. According to a few rumors, early advertisements for Land Rovers bragged that the vehicles could be driven on banana oil. In its early years, Land Rovers were constructed from Birmabright (an alloy of magnesium and aluminum), which was used due to a postwar steel shortage. This alloy helped Land Rover build a reputation for being incredibly long-lasting, even in the worse driving conditions.
A recent upgrade to the LR4鈥檚 interior helps keep it competitive, but it鈥檚 still a rugged off-road feel compared with competitors, like the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, that aim for elegance. Hop into a Lexus GX or Acura MDX and there isn鈥檛 a perceptible difference in terms of luxury accouterments, but the luxury styles of those two seem generic versus the Land Rover LR4鈥檚 off-roader ruggedness. Thick leather covers the front seats, which are wide across the bottom and have a nice level of back support. There are also adjustable inboard armrests for both the driver and front passenger, so you won鈥檛 have to rely on the well-cushioned center console cover. The second-row seats are more upright in terms of positioning, making both full-size children and adults a bit uncomfortable. There also wasn鈥檛 as much room in the second row as I expected for child-safety seats, which made it difficult for my children to get from one side to the other.
