Would BMW Benefit From Purchasing Jaguar Land Rover?
This will be the most strategic acquisition for BMW. Imagine the Range Rover Line up with the BMW platform and drivetrain, B58 and N63 engines? It would make RR perfect. I am sorry but the wife had x5's (e53 and 3 e70's all V8's) and did not really like the F15 so she moved over to the RR sport Supercharged. She likes the RR better than the X5. Personally I think the SC v8 in the RR is better than the BMW TTv8. As for electronics, Land Rover would GREATLY BENEFIT from a merger with BMW. LR tech is basically Ford's interpretation of the Sync system on top of what LR had and is shit. Not to mention all the stupid features which LR implements in there own way which is super frustrating. The adopted some ford ideas like cutting all power once a car door is opened so you can't shut a window once the car is shut off and a door is opened. Or the stupid fact you cannot lock the car if anything is opened. So if you lock the door before your kid shuts the door it won't lock. I assume you have driven the Range Rover SCv8 and Ttv8 for a period of time that is longer than a test drive. Can you explain why the TTv8 is way better?
If you are thinking of buying a Land Rover Freelander there are a few things that it is worth checking on any Freelander you are considering. As with all cars there are certain issues that are common to each particular make, and the Freelander is no exception. One of the primary issues with the 1.8 petrol Freelander is the head gasket. Originally a single layer head gasket was fitted and these tended to blow by 70,000 miles, often quite a bit before this! The first thing you need to find out is if the head gasket has ever been replaced on the vehicle, and if so was a modified multi layer head gasket used. How much will it cost? The other issue that can cause head gasket failure is the water pump or any leakage in the cooling system. Check that there are no signs of a water leak. Be aware that the correct coolant for a Freelander is red, so the water in the water reservoir bottle should look pink. How much will it cost?

1.5 billion annually into Jaguar, over the last 18 years. At least Land Rover did appear to produce some nominal profits at times. But it clearly never earned back the cost of the capital investment Ford poured into the half dozen new models it has introduced since Jacque Nasser agreed to take the struggling venture off BMW鈥檚 hands. Ford did purchase some extra prestige with the two acquisitions, particularly in Great Britain and among some segments of the motoring press. But prestige and goodwill don't pay cash dividends and Ford certainly could have used the money in other ways. Former GM chairman Roger Smith briefly entered the bidding for Jaguar back in 1989 but dropped out after helping drive up the sale price. Most observers believe Smith never had any intention of buying Jaguar; Smith said privately he believed it would become a huge burden for Ford - one that would hobble what was then GM's chief competitor for years to come. It certainly looks as if Smith, who died last December, was correct. So, what has Tata bought itself? That remains to be seen, though the Indian company鈥檚 management is pretty shrewd and if they can run Jaguar and Land Rover at roughly break even, they will probably consider themselves lucky.
