New Jaguar Factory To Allow For 'more Glamorous' Designs
Jaguars could be made even more luxurious in the future - and the newly appointed design director believes that the company鈥檚 new design facility could help the British brand to achieve this. The new design centre, opened recently as part of a 拢500m investment in Jaguar Land Rover鈥檚 site at Gaydon, will greatly expand the capacity of the British premium brand to produce concepts and production cars. It features an extensive mixture of computer-aided graphics workstations and clay model platforms that feature up to 30 state-of-the-art milling machines; in contrast, Jaguar鈥檚 old facility at Whitley had just two. Significantly, it also brings the 280-odd design staff together in one building for the first time in Jaguar鈥檚 history. 鈥淢aybe we could become even more Jaguar,鈥?Thomson said. 鈥淭here will be change for us as a brand but also changes in the customer market and the requirements and expectations of buyers. However, Jaguar鈥檚 head of exterior design, Adam Hatton, said that the facility would focus on perfecting existing models instead of exploring multiple possibilities for Jaguar to expand its range. 鈥淭his doesn鈥檛 mean massive expansion of the model line-up,鈥?he said. Isnt it wonderful how far weve come along with technology for cars? I mean we have cars that run on electricity, power from the sun, and even vegetable oil. Now we have cars that actually go on land and in water-its actually been around for a while, but people are always wanting to improve it; kind of like how people are always improving computers. These cars are called Amphibious Cars and have been used mainly for warfare. When the W.W.II rolled around, the two most important amphibious cars were invented. One was called the German Schwimmwagen. I know its a weird name, but just bare with me on this one. It kind of looked like a small 4x4 Jeep that was actually designed by Porsche in 1942. The second one was called the Amphi Ranger that was also German. It was made out of Aluminum called AIMg2 that was sea water-resistant. I have no idea if they still make wheels like that for models such as the regular Land Rover Wheels, but you never know, right? Anyway, only about 100 were built-which means that they were most likely really expensive and pretty changeling to make.

The Range Rover SVR is unquestionably Land Rover鈥檚 best jack-of-all-trades, and the increase in power and performance without compromising its off-road heritage is a testament to SVO鈥檚 craftsmanship. Other vehicles may be more rugged, opulent, or sporty, but hardly any of them can do all at once with the SVR鈥檚 level of success.

Production of the Jaguar XJ sedan came to an end on Friday at the car's plant in Castle Bromwich, United Kingdom. Jaguar marked the occasion by announcing that a redesigned model with a battery-electric powertrain is coming. It will be built at the Castle Bromwich plant, which Jaguar Land Rover is in the process of transforming into an EV hub. The site will also be home to production of batteries and electric motors. 鈥淎ffordability will only be achieved if we make batteries here in the U.K., close to vehicle production, to avoid the cost and safety risk of importing from abroad,鈥?Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth said. The redesigned XJ will ride on Jaguar Land Rover's new Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) platform, which supports mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric powertrains. The platform makes its debut this year in the redesigned Land Rover Defender and will eventually underpin most models from the Jaguar and Land Rover brands.
